Hello, everyone. Pardon the interruption.

I have a little proposition for those interested:

R&M is running a song cover competition that, at first, was going to encompass only rock and metal (before, it was only a metal competition).

However, after some deliberation and also to try to reach out to the other genre forums, I'd like to extend the invitation to you guys as well.

The rules and guidelines are in the first post of that thread, right here (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=420804).

So, if you guys have recording equipment and would like to submit an entry, by all means, please do so. It would be nice to have numerous entries from the different forums.

If not, then sorry for the interruption, and carry on. If you have any questions or anything, please e-mail me at my MX address or post in the thread.

Nah, in retrospect the first two seasons were really lame. The animation was horrible and the only creativity went into how many ways they could kill Kenny. I think the show was great when they moved the focus away from all the Kenny-killing, but before they laid on the social commentary too thick.

That's why I've really enjoyed the most recent batch of episodes. The whale one last week, or the one with the gingers. Not so topical that they become dated after a month, but keeping with the show's evolving sense of humor.

Everyone's gotta start somewhere, and I'm really really into "Heart of the Sunrise" and "South Side of the Sky" right now. The latter because it's cold here :( Close to the Edge is next.

But I don't know what Husker Du album to get. I'm sure Zen Arcade would be the logical starting point, but I'm guessing that New Day Rising has the songs I would like more on it. I've only heard one song from each (Pink Turns to Blue and Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill), so I'm sure neither one would be "bad."

I saw Calvin Johnson last night and it was pretty fun. The best thing about seeing guys like Johnson perform is that they've got stories. And some sense of wisdom. He had a question and answer portion of the show where he discussed Stevie Martin, Black Flag and Henry Rollins, Family Guy, String Theory, The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T, Dusty Springfield, and my town, which he affectionately referred to as "Saccademento." He talked about other stuff and played acoustic versions of songs from his new album. He had to stand like two feet away from the mic so that he wouldn't implode the building with his voluminous voice.

Save our college radio station. We may just play top 40 Alt/Pop (Kelly Clarkson, Nickelback, Seether, etc) but we used to have specialty shows where individuals could select the music. This was the only good quality about our station - and now they're trying to take it away.

Yesterday was hawwwt. I went to go see So Many Dynamos, which were a-m-a-zing and another local band called the Arch, who were fronted by a 30-something yr old, chubby man with a combover who also played the trumpet. They played this sweet cover of Domo Ariogato, and had maybe a 5-song set, the last song being around 30 minutes long. I was somewhat crunk'd at this point on rum and cranberry juice and blackberry merlot, and decided to drink more so I could be even more crunk'd for So Many Dynamos, and was a ****ing freak on the dance floor. Afterwards, we did some hanging out with the bands and went home. Good times.

I decided to just go back to what I've always done best, experimental crap, and I started a band with other bassist and a drummer. I think we'll just keep it with two bassists and drummer and just make our song really short with alot of extra noise-odd crap mixed in.

Wow I haven't posted on MX in so long, well I figured I'd post this little question here as alt/indie people seem to have the most open taste. Can anyone recommend me any new bands/artists along the lines of the following, funky/punky/rock, style similar to incubus in azwethinkweiz, are you in?, sink beneath the line, stellar etc, fun, beachy, summery music? I probabally sound a bit crazy and wont get any response, thanks in advance!! Im pretty open so as long as they kinda fit i'll give it a try.

You signed up in August.

That gives you a max. of about two months of not posting.

Don't lie, tool.

Haven't you anything better to do than pretend to be smart and arogant over the internet?

I have two mixtapes to make for Christmas. One of them is for the boy, and I'm thinkng will be another post-rock eargasm mix or just some nice acoustic stuff, and the other one is for one of my friends who is alot more hip than I and said that he would make me a mix. I feel somewhat intimidated by the last mix. I think it will be challenging.

Mixes are always hard. That's why I never make them.

They're usually pretty hard for me to make, too. I associate music and songs with colors and sometimes textures, and when I make mixtapes, the some songs can't be by others because the colors are to different and don't blend together (a song that is red can't be by blue, but is okay by purple and green). I'm in the mood to make a few though, and they are cheaper and more personal gifts.

I feel like a wierdo.

I was just looking around on imdb and I saw a link for it. I realized I hadn't seen it since....a long time.

I have to make a mixtape for a kid with downs syndrome. This should be interesting.

np: Buzzcocks - Orgasm Addict

Oh man, I'm totally gonna make people mixes! I haven't done that in years, but it really is such a good present! Many thanks for the inspiration and whatnot.

Maybe it's time to pull this trick myself. I haven't given Christmas gifts much in the past.

I have no clue what I want for Christmas. I got pretty much everything I wanted for my birthday a few weeks ago.

np: Gary Jules - Mad World. I hate to get all "omfgDonnieDarko" on you, but I like this song.

My gift requests this year were a South African thumb-piano (Kalimba) and a DD-6 Digital delay pedal.

I love the whole Donnie Darko score. Michael Andrews is great.

I have the DD-6. It got me through my Korn/Limp Bizkit days, that's for sure. I haven't used it in about four years, but I have it at school with
me.

Yeah, I talked about Limp Bizkit again. I think I better change my avatar.

I want to use it for looping keyboard lines for solo performance.

It's excellent for that. The "hold" feature is clutch.
