Yeah, ****ed up, huh?

I didn't find it ****ed up at all, personally. I saw them as either an act of God (referred to in the black kid's rap..."when the sunshine don't work the good lord bring in the rain") or something that happened by chance (referring to the introduction of the film, and also when Stanley said "these things happen") to change the circumstances for people. For example, for Jimmy, it stopped his suicide. For Claudia, it was the first step for her to reconcile with her mother and for Donnie, the frogs caused his meeting with Jim, who was able to help him sort out his life. That's what I've sort of figured out partly by myself and partly with the help of others.

Magnolia is my favourite. Speaking of films, I just watched a German one from the 30s called M. It was pretty awesome.

I went out drinking with some friends around here and now I'm on the intranet at 2:32am. Somewhat odd and definitely out of character.

Does anyone else wish they could be perpetually out of character? Becoming the individual who is never as they seem to be? It's something I desire, but realize is impossible. Oh well.

For my future embarrassment - - - - - please ignore my semi-drunken post.

Thank you.

I love Inventing Modernism homework:

As I Lay Dying
Vardaman, the child in the Bundren household, has a number of very enigmatic sayings and bewildering conversations -- for both reader and child -- in As I Lay Dying . At one point, he declares, "My mother is a fish." A little later, he has the following exchange with Darl, the second-oldest brother who has returned from World War I with a serious psychological disorder (probably what today we would call "post-traumatic stress disorder").

But my mother is a fish. Vernon seen it. He was there.
"Jewel's mother is a horse," Darl said
"Then mine can be a fish, cant it Darl?" I said
Jewel is my brother.
"Then mine will have to be a horse, too," I said.
"Why?" Darl said. "If pa is your pa, why does your ma have to be a horse just because Jewel's is?"
"Why does it?" I said. "Why does it, Darl?"
Darl is my brother.
"Then what is your ma, Darl?" I said.
I haven"t got ere one," Darl said. "because if I had one, it is was. And if it was, it can't be is. Can it?"
"No," I said.
I am. Darl is my brother.
"But you are, Darl," I said.
"I know it," Darl said. "That"s why I am not is. Are is too many for one woman to foal."

What do you make of this conversation? How does the paradigm and rhetoric of modernism shed light on its meaning? In modernist terms, what is Vardaman trying to figure out? How does the logic of the child resemble the logic of dreams? Using the same method of analysis, how do we account for Darl's assertion that he is not an "is" but an "are"? What Freudian resonances for Oedipal conflict and for dream associations does his psychologically distressed revelations suggest? What are the chilling implications of his final comment that "Are is too many for one woman to foal."?

So yeah, I wanna die.

I got locked in a shed today

Every little thing that you say or do, I'm hung up.
I hung up on you.
Waiting for your call baby night and day, I'm fed up.
I'm tired of waitin' on you.

She looks uber hawt in that video. But seriously, that song is everywhere lately! I can't escape it :upset:

My nose is sniffly. But besides that, I have the immune system of a ****ing whale and never usually get sick.

Same thing happened to me today. I was outside in carpentry class and it was freezing and that always makes my nose all runny.

Ask him if he can get me an Xbox 360 for Hanukkah.

It'll be delivered before you can make a thread in the Pit about it. In fact, take a look behind you on your left, right now.

Do it!

Made you look! No? :upset:

Well, I dunno. Hot for how old she is, I suppose. But not really.

It's a great song though.

Unfortunately, no I haven't. I saw The Five Obstructions which features him in it, though. That one isn't actually a film - it's more of an experiment and test in the medium. But - I work at Hollywood Video and we have Dancer in the Dark - so I'll be seeing that in a couple weeks once I return home.

I think I might call my store and ask them to get a copy in or something. I just looked at The Five Obstructions on allmovie. It looks quite interesting.

I really want to see Dogville. The style of the film intrigues me.

The style is...odd, to say the least. It has heaps of those shaky hand camera shots and 'jump shots' that Von Trier is apparently very fond of. And just in case you didn't know, it's filmed entirely in soundstage with very minimal props...I think it would have helped me if I had gone into the film knowing that.

Google Video is so awesome. Just type in a band name and if they're not too obscure you might get a concert performance or something! The Mastodon video for "Blood and Thunder (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1583964324866781191&q=mastodon)" is funny, plus there's this weird ATDI clip called "Jack Ruby (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2938661143226984555&q=at+the+drive-in)" where Cedric shoots Omar with a cap gun for comedic effect.
