It bothers me that I only have one more year left of highschool and I have no direction whatsoever.
Same here.
I have a few major interests (music, painting, photography, cinema) but I'm not actually good enough at any of those things to pursue an actual career in said fields and it really worries me sometimes. :upset:

I have no idea what colleges I want to apply to, what I want to major in, or what I want to have a career in.
I got a while (I'm a junior in high school), but still. I need to get on that.

^ That's really not that long. You pretty much have to decide a few months into your senior year. It sneaks up on ya.
That's not entirely true. There are certain things you have to go to college for, regardless of your level of intelligence. There are also programs where you go to university and then you go to college to get hands on experience, like most engineering careers.
That's true, but not for engineering. That's a university program. My best friend is at Mac for engineering and my dad went to Ryerson.
Except there's less maths (which I don't really mind eitherway) . It's either that or Radio + Television, though the nearest school that offers that course is really sucky, or so I've heard.
U of T miss. campus? That's the closest to you right? Mississuaga is close to so many universities/colleges though. You could go anywhere.

Actually I was talking about Ryerson, UTM I didn't really bother to gather info on. Haha. Right now I'm thinking of either U of T or Ryerson. But York is another possibility.

Haha. University is overrated. You're all likely to change your major or stay undeclared for like a year, and if your doing music you'll drop out.
Kinda off the topic, why the hell would anyone want to study music and break it down so much that it becomes work not interest? music is fun, it's not about education and forced learning man.

I've been really thinking about graduating high school early next year, and going to college to pursue either/a combination of Literature, Fine Arts, Electronics, or Philosophy. Im really leaning towards the Literature, though, with a Fine Arts minor, although it is kindof a worthless major job-wise.

To a large extent it doesn't really matter what degree you have, just that you have a degree. A large proportion of graduates don't start a job in the same area as that of their degree. Companys just want to know that you can hack the workload. Choose a degree that you'll enjoy, although as Tangy said not something that you view as a major hobby. It takes all the fun out of it.

My GPA was 3.87, and my test scores were actually below average for Brown. It's not all about academic performance here. If you're a good writer, a thoughtful, passionate person, and the kind of person who wasn't at all satisfied by a high school education, and that obviously contributed to not performing as well in high school as you were capable of, that comes through in your application, and they like that.

Engineering is a University course, however, many employers won't higher an engineer without two to five years work experience so what is happening is universities are offering programs where you attend uni. for the theory and then after graduating you go to college to get the hands on learning, similar to work experience. This is according to my physics teacher, anyways.

Does your school go above 4.0? Mine didn't, so that's probably why a 3.87 can still be considered Brown material in my case.

Right. See, I took all honors/AP classes junior and senior year, and I had a 3.87 not taking that into account. Still, though, that's nothing compared to what some people here did, but they major in something boring, usually.

Why the hell wouldn't you want to, when you have a deep passion for something, get all you can out of it. Learning about something you love is the most rewarding thing in the world.
Plus it's waste. The only thing you can do with a music degree is become a teacher.
Learning anything, even if it doesn't immediately get you a lucrative career, is never a waste. One thing you can "do" with a music degree is own a deeper understanding of music, thus enabling you to express yourself on levels you hadn't previously thought possible using music.
Of course it's not for everyone, but people who really love music and want to get every little bit they can out of it are hungry for knowledge. Something you can get in college, if you put in the effort yourself, is knowledge.
Learning about things you love always involves grunt work—learning anything requires grunt work—but this makes the power you gain in your field all the more rewarding. If you're going to spend your time aching through something, why not make it something that helps you fulfill your passion?

My manager knows nothing about morale or motivation either, and the worst thing is, he tries to blame our poor sales on the team when he is in no way helping or motivating us. Even after only about a month into the job, it's hard to get up at 6am every weekday, travel over an hour to get to work on crowded public transport just to hear our manager say our sales are ****.

So I bought a 60GB Video Ipod today which is cool. I frickin hate I-Tunes. The amount of shite I have to do to get albums onto the Ipod is really starting to annoy me. Half the time I press the update button and it doesn't frickin work. The software for the Zen I had is so much damn easier to use.
Itunes is great.

Just skip bari sax and go straight to bassoon.
No way, bari sax is awesome! I played it in fifth grade because I was one of the few people who could reach the mouthpiece while sitting down with the sax resting on the floor.
I sat next to the clarinet player who got picked to play bass clarinet. I don't even know if our high school had one, but here she was in elementary school playing that thing. Fun times.
