Anyone ever of this show called Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? It's where you write to the show and say "hey my house sucks and/or my family is going through some rough times" and they say "ok here's a week's vacation; we're going to demolish your house and build a new one with all the furnishings in a week! Then you can see it and be surprised!"

Well they're doing that to a family in Youngstown, Ohio today. I went to see it

My brother and I have it all planned out on how to get on that show. I am going to be a former gymastic dancer who now has alopecia and no legs due to a drunk driver. And my borther will be immensely crippled, and my parents will both have AIDS from a horrible kidney transplant that has left them retarded. Then voila! a sweet vacation and a new house.

Today I wore my Black Flag shirt, and something very unexpected happend. My English teacher, who is a middle aged man who looks exactly like you would think a 45 year old english teacher would look like, asked me if i really listen to them. I said Yea. He said, "So do you like that particular era of Los Angeles Rock?" I said yea. Then he said, "X is a good band, youd proably like them". And I said I already did. It was weird but cool.

All english teachers used to be punks.

Someone tried to burn down the fine arts hall at my school today. Only got a couple of rooms.

Don't worry, we'll get those damn fine arts eventually. If fire doesn't work then we will just have to go to the theater, steal a projector, and project Jerry Bruckheimer movies onto the paintings until they deprecate in a fiery clash of Dada-esque deconstruction

Man, most annoying day. My friend said, not completely seriously that one day he would like to smoke weed. He got in massive trouble by about 10 of his/my peers. The amount of knowledge that the average student at my school has of drugs (eg not much) is appalling.

Robert Crumb
10-20-2005, 02:24 AM
That's kinda lame. They ratted on him just for saying that? Sheesh.

Once when I was in high school while the teacher had stepped out of class, we did an impromptu poll to see how many people had smoked weed and every one except for like two people in a class of thirty said they had. Some might have been lying to try to seem cool but I'd smoked with at least ten people in there so... yeah. And that was a honors class. But yeah, I didn't really go the most upstanding high school in the world.

That's kinda lame. They ratted on him just for saying that? Sheesh.

It's ridiculous. They were making statements to the effect of "you're playing with your life there man", which is ridiculous. I mean, it's weed.

That's funny about your school, if we did that poll at my school, I think about 9 or 10 people out of 120 in my grade would say yes.

It's nice that kids watch out for each other but yeah, that is a bit excessively dramatic.

So long as they don't say that and then go drink a fifth of vodka.

Gym teachers are ****ed.

When I was in grade 11 we had some twat come in to teach us about self defence. I made some wise crack (I don't even remember what I said) but he threw me on the ground and started choking me yelling "What ARE YOU GONNA DO NOW HUH WISE ***?!"

What did your grandfather think of your album?

He likes most of it. He outlined his favorites, and also called 20-23 "not so great, a bit formulaic."

His favorite was "Salivary Foam," which he decided is in 8/4 grouped 3/3/2. I had always thought of it in 4/4, so this was pretty interesting.

Harry Potter Jelly Bellies?

I'm going to tell a cautionary tale, kids, so listen well.

There was a guy named Dan. He was an affable fellow, killing once in a while, but one day, he noticed a wart on the side of his right index finger, right in the knuckle area. After trying over-the-counter products, he figured that it would be best to have a medical professional tackle the problem.

One fine October 24th, 2005, having an appointment with his doctor of eight years, Dan went to the good family practitioner in between his day and night classes. The doctor said to him that he could either freeze or burn the wart away, saying that freezing would be best at first as it doesn't hurt the way burning does. Dan complied with the cold option, and the doctor readied the pressurized canister of solution and a series of nozzles with which to direct the solution as it rapidly exited the can.

This is where it all went wrong.

You see, the nozzle that the doctor chose to use was a bit too large, likening the situation to Goldilocks and her snafu with the three bears. When the good doctor started applying the pressurized solution to the wart, it became abundantly clear that there was not a sealed relationship between Dan's finger and the nozzle. Subsequently, the solution leaked all over Dan's finger, freezing the skin on impact as the chemicals lingered until evaporating. Clearly distraught and in pain, Dan's grimace and gasps directed the doctor to stop spraying and to find a smaller nozzle; the frost still spangled on his finger.

A second try yielded much better results as there was no space for the solution to escape, though some splashback did splatter onto the previously afflicted hand. The wart remained, but the good doctor said that it would fall off in time, making no mention of the now-pearl-white portion of young Dan's finger and its condition.

The finger remained white for hours, having no feeling save for the ache at the edges of the chemically-frozen areas. Effectively frostbitten, half of Dan's finger from the first knuckle to the fingernail stung if any feeling was at all possible. A medical student and friend of Dan's said that, since it wasn't turning black or grey, the finger should slowly regain feeling, but blisters would probably form.

Oh, how the blisters formed. By that evening, Dan's finger had a string of blisters that reached a peak just before sloping off at the fingernail. These blisters combined with the frostbite rendered the finger almost immobile. A right-handed and only partially and moderately ambidextrous man, Dan's functionality was severely hindered, he babying the finger and hand as not to burst the blisters.

Now, he sits, hoping the blisters will grow no larger and dissipate quickly to welcome the return of normal, non-painful feeling to his finger.

Moral: Make sure your doctor checks for leaks.
