I think there are a lot of Elliott Smith fans here, and I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere in the album review anyway, so I thought I would share this tidbit about the song "King's Crossing":

Just after he sings the lyric - "Give me one good reason not to do it" you can faintly hear his girlfriend and sister whisper - "Because we love you."

So if you like listening to that song but never noticed that, give it another try and maybe you'll feel a renewed sense of sorrow :(

I went to a school lock-in last night and didn't get any sleep at all. I just woke up a while ago at about 5:30 PM. It was actually fun. We played medical tape dodgeball, watched Sin City and stole food from other people. I couldn't sleep so I stayed up and played Madden '06 with my friend. Good times, good times.

EDIT: I'm now about to go see the Exorcism of Emily Rose, has anyone else seen it? Is it worth watching?

I went to Charleston last night to go see So Many Dynamos play in this one college kid's basement, and then stayed at our friends apartment there. It was insanely good; but some dumbass college whores were grinding/being drunken sluts everywhere, it was seriously at least 100 degrees with 50 people dancing in a smallass basement and I was the most sweatiest I had ever been, but it was amazing.

I was also drug into a moshpit somehow, bit some drunk guy because he shoved his elbow in my face, and rescued by a lovely boy.

My week/day: My journalism class started with 30 kids last Wednesday, and now it's down to about 10. Since my school somehow ended up on austerity budget, we have no newspaper or accompanying club (just a quarterly newsletter now), paired with an unenthusiastic journalism class and new teacher. Oh well.

On the plus side, we get free copies of the New York Times everyday to use as textbooks in a sense, so I just end up reading the paper all class. Interesting review of Cripple Crow today.

/sort of relatedAPs, I find, are pretty good in small classes. More gets accomplised and you often have more intimate discussions, assuming some of the peopel actually talk. I have quite a few overcrowded classes too. It's impossible to do a lengthy lab in my AP Bio class with so many kids and so little lab space.

With this journalism class though, it seems asif we've been left with the bottom of the barrel to assemble this paper.

It must have been subconscious, because someone around here was talking about that song recently and I just overheard it and acknowledged that it was a good song. I haven't listened to it in a while, though. I suppose it's more than a coincidence, though. This open tuning, sitar-sounding stuff I do and have done for a long time is very much George Harrison-inspired.

I'm glad you liked it, Snidg. I wasn't actually going for a two-guitar sound; I just wrote the thing on one and beefed it up with another. If/when I do more with this idea, there will be much more going on.

I just got a mail from "The Mars Volta <fanclub@umrg.myreg.net>":

News
Tuesday, November 8th, the mars volta will release scabdates.

scabdates will feature renditions of Volta tracks recorded live over the course of 2003-2005 touring in support of this year's Frances The Mute and 2003's De-Loused In The Comatorium, drawn out to their epic, endurance-defying lengths, making for a 74-minute sampling of the Mars Volta live experience, with packaging featuring the photography of longtime Volta collaborator Danielle Van Ark. Scabdates was assembled, produced and mixed by Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez. All music by Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez, all lyrics by Cedric Bixler Zavala, and performed by The Mars Volta. The track listing for scabdates is as follows:

1. abrasions mount the timpani
2. take the veil cerpin taxt
3. a) gust of mutts
4. b) and ghosted pouts
5. caviglia
6. concertina
7. haruspex

I have a shiny $7000 Yanagisawa bari sax with a gold plated Selmer mouth piece sitting in my bedroom. It feels good to be in the school jazz band.

I had a real nice idea for a post-rock song, Mogwai style last night. At least I think it's nice. If I upload the rough idea, will people listen?

Definately.

Anyway, The Mars Volta is playing live with System of a Down next week. Should I spend $44 just to see TMV open?

Yeah, I'd go.

That show is here in Vancouver tomorrow. I considered going, but I kinda procrastinated on buying tickets for too long :-\

Yeah, but my dad was opposed to me going though. So yeah, maybe...

I came home from a football game and my dad asked me how to grow shrooms. It was some akward conversation.

I've been really tired out from wrestling this whole week and I've been swamped with homework. Thank God it's the weekend finally.

Ugh  I can't believe that tour doesn't come anywhere near me. I like both of those bands, and I'm probably one of the few people who does!

Eh, they'll probably just ruin it anyway. TMV's songs supposedly go on too long, even for jams, and SOAD supposedly has bad sound live. But what if those people are lying?

Jacaranda
09-16-2005, 11:24 PM
Oh, I heard SOAD is good live but I dunno.
About TMV I heard Cedric is always trying to do something to show off onstage and doesn't sing half the time.

There are a lot of mistakes, namely the part where I randomly speed up, but try to ignore them. I basically recorded this so I wouldn't forget the idea.

Your mistake was going with a democratic format. You should have just declared Glastonbury to be the finest of all festivals, majority be damned.

Unless you've been to every music festival that was held this year, and gave an objective review of all of them (with a musical taste that encompasses every band present at these concerts), then you're in no position to try and skew the votes in your favor.

If her voice is good, who cares if it's your mother.

Are there any mother/son duos? Haha.
