Yeah, but did you know who was gonna kill? Hmm?
I hate Harry Potter.

I finished the new Harry Potter, it was sortof mediocre. I totally knew who was going to die.
The death was totally obvious. I guessed it as soon as she announced someone would die.
What was bad about it for me was that JK Rowling totally ruined the plot of the 7th book by bringing Horcruxes into it. Could it BE more blatant that Harry is the 7th Horcrux?

How many negative ratings do you think I'll get if I absolutely TRASH Plastic Ono Band on Sputnik?
It'll be funny. Look at my Coldplay review...I didn't even say it was bad and I got all that. So it should be great.

I didn't know anyone was going to die, so it was a surprise for me. I liked it. It does seem kinda obvious for Harry to be the 7th Horcrux, but you just never know. When would Voldemort have had the chance to make Harry a Horcrux anyway?
He does it every time he kills. Did he not kill Harry's parents while in his presense?
Little Man being Erased
07-19-2005, 05:27 PM
Yeah, true. But he has to consciously choose the object he wants to make the Horcrux, and why would he choose Harry, then try to kill him?
Maybe he consciously chose afterwards.
Anyway -

I wouldn't have thought he'd have been able to consciously choose afterwards, what with being reduced to "less than spirit, less than the meanest ghost" after trying to kill Harry.
I suppose she could try and say that the effect of him surviving the attack could have bent the general Horcrux rule..but then I'd say she was stretching it a bit.

That could always be a further significance to 'the magical properties of the number 7', which, as far as I remember, has no other significance to any of the Harry Potter storylines. She did make a pretty big point of letting the reader know that, which she wouldn't do if it wasn't important. She may also use that to explain why Harry didn't die.
It would certainly explain Harry's psychological link to Voldemort, anyway, which hasn't been explained yet.

I think I'd prefer if that remained unexplained, though. There's never been a survivor of the curse before, so why should it be?
I think that was one thing I didn't like about the new book, actually. Now that Horcruxes have been introduced, it feels like everything's getting explained too much, if you see what I mean. I preferred it when all we had to go on was that he "was reduced to less than spirit, less than the meanest ghost", and there was something of a bit of mystery around it all. I imagine what she's doing is part of the conscious effort to make the storylines "grow up" along with the children that are reading them, but I think that in trying to make it more grown up, she's made the classic child's mistake (the flaw I know my, for one, writing as a child always suffered from) in leaving nothing to the reader's imagination.
I just hope she doesn't take it too far in the next book.
I'll be quiet now.

Well that aside (can't be bothered going into some kind of cross-cultural analysis), giving away important plot points in any book is just a really crappy thing to do.

I saw their thread that had Hermione Dies in the title. That got me a little confused after reading the real spoiler so many times.

Just when I ask this girl to go to a gig with me (She 'used' to like me - kinda long story I won't go into it) she tells me she's moving.
Now I already know this but she's moving in late August and all the gigs that we were looking at are in like October/November time. She's moving about 100 miles away at least so it's not exactly gonna be easy to see her either. :upset:

I thought the horcruxes were somewhat lame. I also was disappointed that the Half Blood Prince ordeal seemed overshadowed by everything surrounding the Horcruxes and could have been left out; but I'm guessing it might tie in with the next book. I also think that the faux Horcrux that Dumbledore found will be important, or else he wouldnt have got it; you can't trick the man.
Yeah, it seemed pretty strange that the book was named after such a minor sub-plot.
Last time I asked her out, she was all for it but her parents (being strict Christians, don't know whether that actually had anything to do with it, just something I noted) were against the whole dating thing. Not just with me, with every boy she's wanted to date.

It's really funny that you said that, because just before I saw your post here I checked out the thread and listened to the mp3s. And right you were, they are quite swell. Definitely something I'd be willing to buy once they put out some official works. Your comparisons to Animal Collective are spot-on. They aren't close enough for it to be derogatory for the Jolly Rogers, but close enough to see a strong resemblance. It's the voice and the clangy percussion. I work at Hollywood Video and I feel a little out of place sometimes. People ask me questions, "How is that new movie, Man of the House?" "What about Assault on Precinct 13, is it any good?" "I'm thinking about Alien Vs Predator or the Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which one would you pick?". All I can do is tell them I haven't seen it, but I've heard 'good' things. I heard Mike Watt is playing bass for The Stooges. If that's true then you've got quite a show to see. You should also catch Maiden because their live show makes all their songs so much more powerful (or so I hear). I just stubbed my toe really hard.
Ughhhh. I hate toe injuries. Once when a was a wee little lad(10 or 11 maybe) A friend and I(while barefoot) were playing catch with a baseball and he wanted to practice pitching. One of his pitches went out of control and slammed into my big right toe. It looked like a movie, there was blood just squirting out as if it were a fountain. It got infected, the toenail fell off, and for the next year I had a retarded looking toe. To this day it still looks a bit odd compared to the other toes, and the nail is super hard, but it's not too bad.

Hah, mine's only one story, but it's a pretty good size. If I had to guess I'd say that I've bought 75-100 used albums from them, and usually I go to them for new releases, too. I love finding used CD's there for only 3 or 5 bucks. If I want vinyl I usually go to a nice local shop that a friend of mine owns, though.

So, I went to Splendour in the Grass on the weekend. Pretty crappy festival really. But I did get to see Ryan Adams, Queens of the Stone Age, Bloc Party, Interpol, Doves and Mercury Rev. Interpol were absolutely spectactular, QOTSA were ****ing awesome, and Ryan Adams was a little disappointing (mainly cause the crowd were wankers and he had some technical difficulties - he did have moments of complete awesomeness though).
