Here were the songs.

Radiohead - No Surprises
The Specials - Ghost Town
The Small Faces - Itchycoo Park
Frank Sinatra - September Song
Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love?
Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed, Delivered
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama
Will Young - Your Game
Dolly Parton - Jolene

The exam included such taxing questions as 'What genre are Guns N Roses?', 'Identify the chords to No Surprises' - this is the first song I ever learnt on guitar, kiddies - and 'What features of Where Is The Love are typical of rap?'

But it's basically real? Emo, after all, in the true sense of the word (not the ignorant Taking Back Sunday sense of the word), is short for "emotional hardcore", which could, of course, be shortened to "emocore". And real emo is good.

I've never used ACID, I've only used Magix (which sucks) and some $1500 program my friend got from his electronic recording school (I can't remember what it's called), but usually when you click "record" there is an option screen that comes up before the actual recording starts, and from that screen you can usually toggle "Playback While Recording", or whatever, on and off. But all things end, and as the bloated Be Here Now hit stores in 1997 at the height of their popularity, they settled in for the backlash, which, eight years later, is still in full force. Or close to it, anyway-- I've read several write-ups of their latest album, Don't Believe the Truth, that struggle to explain why it's a return to form from their last two miscarriages, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants and Heathen Chemistry. Unfortunately, these reviews are either based on wishful thinking or plain bad taste. If anything, Don't Believe the Truth is the chilling conclusion to their discography's trilogy of shame.
