Seashellist?

Interesting......

Indeed. I think he generally played 4 of different sizes, and then he had one huge one for the last song. He cuts them so that on the end is basically a trombone mouthpiece, and he uses lip tension, air column speed, as well as shoving his hand into the shell to get 3 or 4 pitches out of each. He's got this really mellow, expressive sound to it.

He played the first bunch of songs on trombone, and then made like the concert was over. Then he did his silly little planned thing where her turned to the NMU jazz band director and said "Hey Mark, I forgot to play the shells!" And then he whipped the little cloth sheet that was covering them on the music stand next to him, and the band did a latin tune with him on the shells.

After that, the concert really was over, but the response was huge. He came back out, and said that even though he hadn't planned it, he'd play an encore solo on the shells, since the band didn't know any more songs. It was unbelievable.

The review of Beverley Hills I put on RYM -

Come on, Rivers. The 'endearing nerd' gimmick doesn't work when you force it so blatantly. The spoken word break in this song makes a mockery of your entire career.

Their decision to get back together for The Green Album is looking dumber and dumber every day.

It says something that the talking guitar effect is the best part of the song.

Yeah, "Make Believe" is definitely better than the horrific "Beverly Hills" single. But... it's definitely no Blue Album. It's simply okay. Not a travesty like the single made it out to be, but not a return to form either. A very balanced 'decent' album, some great tracks balanced out by some very 'blah' tracks.

Not as much as the new album. oOoOoOo

After listening to Make Believe though, I don't think it's terrible, but I don't think it's good. The original description of "meh" is most accurate. What I was really mad about was that there were no standout songs. Say what you want about the overall quality of the last 2 albums, but they at least had some quirky highlights. The good natured fun seems to gone now. :(

I would love to attend Wash U. That would be amazing. When we went to the zoo, it was still considered winter season, so some of the animals weren't out yet. And the monkey house, as always, smelled horrid. But they still have an awesome zoo.

It's sort of like Mr. Bungle or Primus-influenced funk metal. But the bassist has a 9-string monstrosity and he knows how to use it, so that's why it's kind of a big deal for him to grant the bass forum a little Q&A.

Well college isn't really 'learning', all of it is just for the short term. No one really learns any thing unless they read outside of the class room anyway. In alot of ways, college 'eduaction' is a joke.

AndreTheHyena

I think public education as a whole is a joke. I really don't think I learned anything in high school. I'd like to send my kids to private school, but I'd worry about their social development. It's kind of a lose-lose situation. It's all built around priming people into fitting neatly into automatonical niches, and it scares me.

My father is the smartest and most individualistic and well-read person I know, and he didn't go to college until he was over 30 and I had already been born, and even then he just got an agricultural degree. I like to use him as a shining example of self-education.

Top-up fees
The war in Iraq
Immigration & Asylum

They took questions for an hour + and I have to say the Green Party candidate impressed me the most. The Labour candidate did not know her stuff to well and was very quie and withheld throughout. David Willets (Conservative and probabale winner of this seat) was very good I thought, but I disagree with most of his views and the Lib Dem candidate was laughable, he could only rant and had little knowledge and tried to digress away fom what was being asked. That's stupid. The people who are getting above 85 are going to do well on their exams anyway.

I had a stupid teacher last year who would do that kind of thing. All the people who didn't have an average of 75% on the quiz's, would have to do a unit test. Surprise surprise, they did bad on the unit test as well. Which just contributed to them getting an even lower mark.

Just give the same damn test to everyone.

Well, I went out drinking with 2 of my ex-girlfriends last night. One of them had a massive fight with her current boyfriend, and broke up with him right in front of me. She then flirted with me really blatantly for the rest of the night....until her ex-boyfriend showed up with his friends. After which, she spent most of the night stood between us, not sure which one to go to.

So the fallout from that should be entertaining when I next see her.

She was asking some strange questions about another of my ex-girlfriends too, because she thinks I'm back into her (correctly, actually, but I have no idea how she'd know).

Other big events this week include my first ever time voting this Thursday, a ****load of coursework deadlines on Wednesday and Thursday, and me losing my virginity. Tomorrow.

Yeah, that last fact is really what makes the week a wierd one.

Kasabian were at no. 23 in MTV2's best 101 bands, one place above Led Zep. I cant tell you what the rest of the list was because I turned on during Led Zep and turned off as soon as I realised it was Kasabian after them.
