i really like AC/DC although some songs do sound the same...but when a band puts out 17 CD's its bound to get repetitive, i dont blame them.
Ya im totally with u on that Im a true AC/DC die hard fan i love emm and i gotta admit that they do repeate sometimes but they made the greatest rock n roll album of all time. Ohh and Angus is not overrated u stupid Punkers that only like one song then say the rest are stupid

Let me ask you this......What would rock be like today w/o AC/DC? Angus and Malcolm freakin rock. Malcolm is a very underrated rhythm guitarist.
I totally agree i thing Malcom is one of the greatest rhythm players

Well that was a mouthful. And as for the people who pick on you just because you listen to old music. Ask them if they have actually heard any of the bands you like. It shuts them up every time. btw I wish I liked AC/DC when I was 14.

Yeah, could you roughly translate what you were saying as
"knowing where the **** the tribute is being held means **** all doesnt make u anymore of a fan" means nothing to me.
Tribute? Don't know of any tribute let alone where one may be being held.
If you notice it says 1955. A bit late to attend that event.
As oor Angus is the member with the highest profile and with the most fans out of the band I'd have thought someone on this thread would have posted that it was his 50th.

Yeah I meant specifically this thread. Actually come to think of it ive never seen you before oh well. So what AC/DC albums do you have?
Vinyl
Jailbreak 74
High Voltage (different cover from now, it has a cartoon picture of an exaggerated Bon Scott in lurid colours, sideways profile, head back singing - still got the letters on the back though)
DDDDC
Powerage
If You want blood
Back in Black
Highway to Hell
Let there be Rock
For those about to Rock.
Who made Who
Had Flick of the Switch but loaned it never got back.
Other stuff - not much really
Live at atlantic studios on bootleg (hey who passed around the beer!, Great version of Hell ain't a bad place to be if I remember right) .
Let there be Rock (french concert and interviews) - VHS
Stiff Upper Lip - DVD
Kinda lost interest after Fly on the Wall so missed out on their later stuff. Not the same without Bon though Back in Black is, obviously, a classic.
Had an older bro who introduced me to them when I was just small. Round about the time If you want blood was released.
Angus got me playing guitar, no question.

Ac/dc! I love Ac/dc! They are one of the best bands in rock history! They kick ***! Angus Young is not an over rated guitar player. He is the lead gutarist of an awesome band! His solos are amazing, he is entertaining and puts on a great show, the tunes he comes up with are incredible and sure some of it sounds the same but not all of it and if its the kind of music you like it does'nt matter. There lyrics are great! When you combine Angus youngs solos and jumpin around like a maniac with the rythem guitar of his brother malcome, Bon Scotts voice(or brian johnson), with drums, bass, awesome lyrics, and evrthing rock stands for you got one kick *** band! all these people are saying their songs are repetitive, but if u actually learn them on the guitar like i have all of them are totally different except for like 2 or 3, the solos and riffs arnt even close to sounding the same.

The reason as to why Angus wears a school uniform is that when he was in his teenager years, he would used to run home from school just to get to band practice. He'd be so willing to get to band practice he wouldn't change out of his uniform.
This then became a gimic.
Anybody seen the 'Family Jewels' DVD yet? It's really good, especially as a collectable. My favourite video/track from the whole album is probably Flick thing/Rocker. The riff is awesome at the beggining, and then Angus being Angus... goes into the crowd playing the guitar.
It doesn't show the best of AC/DC, as they do the video's in order of the time line. For instance, they've done some amazing live shows and recordings for 'Whole lotta rosie', but they played the video from back when they had just started playing it and released it.
Still a great watch.
PS: Why are people arugeing over who is a fan and who isn't? Surely, can't we just have a discussion about them? There's no need to proove who is the bigger fan.

Stage performance makes a band for me, If they have no stage presence than I would probably not fork out money to see them live. Not in all cases but to get involved in the music a musician cannot merely stand and show little emotion and there's plenty out there like that.

From the start i'm going to tell you i'm biased to AC/DC as i'm australian.
While AC/DC may not be technically superior to some bands in guitar playing skills at the time of their peak (late 70's-80's and Donnington '91) they were one of the best live acts going round, Angus going into the crowd and get lifted up in a cherry picker at the end of Let There Be Rock at Donnington is something that is etched in my mind as well as Angus playing guitar on Bon or Brian's shoulders depending on the time. Their riffs are catchy and the lyrics are memorable. They are my favourite band as my belief is that only when a band master the live acts can they rank up there in top bands lists. But in saying that they are out of place in my fav bands list as my next two favourite bands are Midnight Oil and Rage Against The Machine because of the messages behind their great music and live act.

Disc one by far. Probably because I'm a huge fan of the Bon Scott era. Plus I just prefer the music. Obviously Johnson's era is also great... but I just personally preferred Bon Scott.
I read that Angus used to run home from school to get to band practice in a few interviews and on an AC/DC facts site... when I had to do a presentation on them. Obviously it must have been before the AC/DC years.
edit: Just read about the AC/DC - Chuck berry thing. Isn't it easy to see from the duck walk that Angus was a big fan of Chuck? Chuck berry basically made the duckwalk. All adds up to the stage entertainment...
I'm planning getting the latest Kerrang mag, just because it has an awesome front cover of Angus playing his geetar', with the AC/DC logo on it. I guess I'll frame it and keep it for many years to come.

I read that Angus used to run home from school to get to band practice in a few interviews and on an AC/DC facts site
when angus first started playing he ran home to play his guitar not band practice. Angus left school at 15 and worked in a softcore **** factory then AC/DC started he never wore the uniform on stage originally although he still had his old school uniform and could still fit into it. then during gigs hed dress up as zorro and superman and a gorilla but the school boy suit got the biggest response from everyone so he kept it.
next thing just becos u read it on a facts site doesnt mean its correct half the AC/DC facts on the internet are wrong theres even one saying Angus has a flowershop in Holland or something but he doesnt really.

AC/DC plays simple stuff, but it's all about the emotion. Angus may be over rated, because he's not as fast as Vai or he's not as creative as Hendrix but he feels the music. It's all about the music. THE MUSIC THE MUSIC THE MUSIC!!!!!

just let me say in advance that a lot of people will probably disagree with me on this but im kind of hypocritical on this so here i go....
You say that they are simple but good. It doesn't really matter what they are, just what they sound like. If it's simple but you like it, then why criticize them? They do what they do best, play rock n' roll. There good musicians in the sense that they play good music, not how good they play it.

Angus is an incredible player, he will always be one of rock's guitar greats. I used to be very closed-minded, however, like a lot of AC/DC fans - I listened to a lot of AC/DC and nothing else. I find your taste broadens dramatically once you actually start playing the guitar.

No, I read somewhere that Angus would often run home from school to band practice when he was 15. He never had enough time to change so he stayed in his schoolboy outfit. His sister gave him the idea of wearing it in concerts.
(I'm pretty sure the pamphlet of High Voltage said that)

But AB/CD seems to know his stuff. I only presumed I was right as I've read many websites claiming this to be true, and many interviews. I'd rather go along with what the fact sites and interviews have said, rather than you.

I want to clear up the uniform thing. AB/CD is right it was playing the guitar and not even bothering to get out of his school uniform. It has been stated that Angus was 15 at the time but this was a lie concocted by a magazine(dont ask me which one) to make him look younger and therefore fit the ideal of a uniform better.

Angus used to go along with that story but come on Angus only started playing guitar when he was around 12 AC/DC wasnt formed until after he left school at 15 so how could he run home from a school he wasnt even at in a uniform he didnt even wear
Bon_Scottie
04-14-2005, 04:01 PM
Ofcourse he could of at the age of fifteen.
But, it doesn't matter.
My mate has given me his Kerrang magazine with a nice AC/DC article in it. It has a really nice cover with Angus on the front, I'll try scan it some time. Anyway, here's the first paragraph... It's pretty funny.
"Angus young has been heckled before, but no-one has ever walked onstage - his stage - and put him in a headlock halfway through a gig. Verbal insults are par for the course in the rought 'n tumble pubs of Perth, and normally the guitarist lets them slide. But it's hard to ignore a gorilla grapling with your face. Wiggling out of both the headlock and his guitar strap, Angus deals his assailant a short, sharp, blow to the head, followed by a swift kick in the arse, jettisoning him back into the crowd. Behind him the band have stopped playing and are preparing for the worst. After all, in a pub like this, where the drink seems to taste better with a good fight, things could explode at any second. But, satisfied the job is done, Angus simply turns around, straps his guitar on, gives his band the nod and they're of again.
'I know I look tiny up there, but thats the worst time to give me grief' he smiles backstage. 'When I pull that suit on, it takes over!'. Lesson number one: No-one ****s with AC/DC".
Awesome pictures too. I'm not a fan of the Kerrang mag, but this article is niiice.

Yeah, I read the punk scene was on a high when they first started.
In the article, it had a little bit about how once Johnny Rotton was watching AC/DC live on stage, and he knew AC/DC weren't punk, and he was also unimpressed. But as soon as Angus jumped onto the stage, span around the floor, duckwalked, and held his hand up to crowd saluting them, you could tell Angus didn't care too much for Punk 'nor Johnny Rotton.
Angus said they just want to make hard rock.

AC/DC is a good band in the sense that they play catchy tunes that you can hear for the first time and sing along to or tap your foot to. but.... Thats because there songs a simple but good. AC/DC isnt all that great of musicians they've won people over simplicity and catchyness
it makes a key point to adress an issue that i come with against a lot of mxers and most players i know.
music never is and was about technicality, if you go by technical diffuculty you've lost the power of music, it stops the good mood feeling. people critisize bands like blink and green day because they're 'crap' or are too simple. yet i'm sure they never see it as that. they're as good as they need be, just because there's no shredding, you know. it destroys the feel of music, some people need to learn that...
...or is it just me?

Nice, how much did it cost?
I read on the Gibson site that Angus doesn't actually use pedals, or drives distortion into his guitar. I'll get the interview now;
What are your typical live amp settings?
In your part of the world, a lot of venues are built with the same sort of design, so the sound doesn’t change all that much from night to night. But the amp settings will vary a bit in different venues. We do a little bit of juggling before we go out on tour and just try to get things as consistent as possible. I’ll take four 100-watt amps (Marshall or Wizard) and try them out individually. I’ll get a couple together and go through them to try to line up four that are pretty much the same in terms of tone and character. Then I just crank up a little bit of bass and put a little bit of middle in. If it’s too bassy, I’ll cut it back. Usually, all the controls are set about halfway, never full up. A lot of people think it sounds best when you drive the amps to death, but I never do it that way. I think that when you turn things up too much, the sound sort of goes a bit mushy.
Your tone is actually much cleaner than many people think.
It is. The amp is set very clean. A lot of people who have picked up my guitar and tried it through my amp have been shocked at how clean it is. They think it’s a very small sound when they play it and wonder how it sounds so much bigger when I’m playing. I just like enough gain so that it will still cut when you hit a lead lick without getting that sort of false Tonebender-type sound. I like to get a natural sustain from the guitar and amp.
Do you ever use a boost pedal for leads?
No. The only boost between the guitar and amp is me!

Not sure if it's on DVD, but I've got the video via the Internet. If we are talking about the same video, that is...
He's playing 'Rocker', and he basically just goes insane. At one point he actually has to go off stage and take in oxygen via a oxygen mask. Then, he gets on a body guards shoulders and goes through the crowd playing a solo.
As he gets back onto the stage, he runs back on for, falls to the floor, spins around, gets back up onto his knee's and they finish it.
It's an awesome video, but I'm not totally sure wether we are talking about the same one. I know Jack Black is a big AC/DC fan, and if it is a different video, I'd too like to get hold of it.
One of my teachers today came down and played a bit of guitar in our hall as my band was practicing, and even though he was a fan of AC/DC and could play nearly every solo I asked him to play, which vaired from Whole lotta' Rosie to Back in black, he claimed that he didn't think they were that great live.
I slapped him.

Kids who know crap about music?
Thats a lameass comment. AC/DC are only known by these 'kids' because they've made a few nice T-Shirts and DVD's. Kids like the style of the T-Shirts and merchandise, and buy it. They probably know jack about the music, or have heard one or two songs. This doesn't mean they are over rated.

He did that in many preformances. I'm not sure which one was shown on School of Rock, though.

I see what you mean, but come on... do you really expect that AC/DC will change there sound?
They will always play hard simplistic rock, and always make great music.
I can't wait for AC/DC to release an album and hopefully do a world tour. My Dad has seen them a few times in his life, but I've never been able to go to one of their concerts as I'm only like fifteen, and I suspect that if they did do a world tour It would be my last change to feel the passion of what is, AC/DC.

Anybody here heard of an oldskool Classic rock band, called Cinerella?
The vocalist sounds insanly like Brian Johnson.
Try and get the song 'Bad Seamstress Blues'. I literally thought it was Brian at first...

I slapped him. good

Whether you like them or not is your opinion, but not liking a band because of kids buying their merchandise is stupid.

Most people I know that like ACDC are either faggots, ignorant posers- who have no concept of music at all, or both. I dont care what music people listen to as long as they arn't posers and respect other kinds of music. If I knew someone that really liked Greenday, but knew alot about them, and has knowledge of otherkinds of music and wasn't ignorant, then I wouldn't care, but ACDC has always appeared as "poser" music to me, not bad music tho.

theres a beat between each chord(you are playing power chords, i hope).are you having trouble with the riff after the first three notes?? that was the hardest part for me when i first started playing. timing is every thing. keep practicing.

As for the person having trouble playing back in black, do you have the program Guitar Pro? If so, download the GP file for Back in Black and listen to it on there. It helps a ton when you can't get the rhythm right with a song, because you can turn everything off but the guitar.

hehe...look at the name.
I dedicated my screen name to malcolm because he is more dedicated/ talented than angus. Angus admits that Malcolm is a better guitar player. He writes most off the riffs and solos and Angus just plays them.
Then why does Angus do all teh solos? If Mal's better, he should play the role of lead guitar.
ANyway, AC/DC is one of vfavorite bands as well because, even though a lot of thier stuff sounds the same, they still rock. That's all that really matters to me. Their songs are simple. but some how they manage to sound awesome. Of course i like other bands, like the Clash, the Who and teh Beatles, but AC/DC ramians one of the greatest bands ever, and they don't quite get eh respect they deserve.

My buddies and I have discussed this a lot - the bass and drums have to be the easiest music to play in rock and roll.
