You are not, because infinity is not a real thing it is an endless idea to try to grasp upon something that doesn't exist.
Whose to say Infinity doesn't exist? That is an assumption, as there is no way to know whether Infinity exists or doesn't exist. Infinity by it's very nature is just as much something as it is nothing, so the whole idea that it exists or doesn't exist is futile. It exists and it doesn't. It is, it isn't, it's both, and it's neither.

You are conceptualizing Infinity by bringing it down to mathematical terms, I am not speaking mathematically. You can't even conceptualize Infinity, because language is finite, mathematics is finite, how can you possibly even begin to fathom Infinity with finitude?
White Album pwns btw.

Mathematic is infinite.
deadohiosky9
12-22-2006, 03:43 PM
Mathematic is infinite.
Yes, but the language of mathematics is finite. Language in any shape or form is going to be finite, the second you open your mouth you bring finite concept to the Infinite, which is why you can't understand Infinity with language or even the duality of logic (true v. false). It transcends all of those things. Which is why you can't state that Infinity exists or Infinity doesn't exist, because it's both and it's neither.
Not to mention the fact that I'm not speaking of Infinity in a mathematical context.

deadohiosky9
12-22-2006, 03:50 PM
Oh but I am.
And that is an incorrect view of Infinity. How can Infinity be a number or even be put forth in a mathematical context?
Infinity cannot be understood through mathematics and viewing it as a mathematical concept is only an incomplete view of it. Because when you view it that way, you immediately bring it back down to concept, and Infinity isn't a concept, nor can it even be understood through concept. It's beyond concept. You can't understand Infinity through mathematical connotations or any other context for that matter.

There's no argument about it, it is what it is and can be understood in it's own unique way that is completely opposite of our ordinary rationale and logic.
Philosophers aren't trying to figure it out, it's figured out. End of story. And there's nothing more productive than those things, the mysteries of life > buying OOP vinyl.

what is the purpose of understanding infinity. because understanding it seems like it would not change my life today, tommorow, or anytime soon.

There is plenty of purpose in understanding Infinity and our relation to it or perhaps that actuality that we it, due to its all-inclusive nature.
But it's not necessarily that life-changing revelation that is important, but the principle behind finding out such things that could possibly alter the course of humanity and it's thought processes as a whole. What would happen if we stopped asking things? We would be stuck where we are and progress is important if we plan on improving our s.hithole-esque situation.
In fact, I can't think of anything more important than that.

It isn't necessarily a mystery of life, but life itself is mysterious.
Life isn't Infinite, existence isn't infinite, but perhaps there an essence which is, that which remains untainted by Finitude.

the hands on is what changes the world, we could all sit around and think up theories for the universe and everything, wasting away time for stupid bulls'hit, that may help with our understanding of life, but definitely will not help life at all in our own reality. at this point in my life, i'm not even sure what there is to understand, and if it matters whether i understand or not, or even care at all.
it seems like searching for the spiritual answers may be the way to enlightment, but that bs is so far from aligned with my reality, i don't know about yours. i have things to do, actual things!
infinity is so abstract, i can hardly see what good can come from spending time on it, rather than the here and now. there are actual things to be solved that will play a role in life itself, to as you say "improve our s'hithole-esque situation". how does knowing about infinity do any of that?

It can certainly help our ability to deal with the situation of life. Apathy isn't the solution. These are always important things to consider, it's not like its taking away from you anyways.
it seems like searching for the spiritual answers may be the way to enlightment, but that bs is so far from aligned with my reality, i don't know about yours. i have things to do, actual things!
Then do your things, but what good is doing these things if you have no understanding of what exactly is going on here? Sure, there's plenty of speculation, and plenty of rejection, but what good is just accepting things without even considering the other side or other possibilities?
infinity is so abstract, i can hardly see what good can come from spending time on it, rather than the here and now. there are actual things to be solved that will play a role in life itself, to as you say "improve our s'hithole-esque situation". how does knowing about infinity do any of that?
I'm not saying Infinity directly does, but philosophical questioning can certainly increase our understanding and ability to see and deal with things and possibly improve our situation.

Ugh, I hate how the Steelers sucked for the first half of the year and arent going to make the playoff, but for the last few games weve just dominated.
I also hate how a certain casino isnt going to be built here that would save the Penguins from moving, and now were getting a different casino in here, which upsets me because I thought the reason we were building the casino to begin with is because they promised they were going to fund a new arena for them to play in, but now I just guess we threw tthat out of the window and getting a casino just 'cause.
As of now, I hate pittsburgh sports.

Yeah, but none of the original DC scene was complaining about how ****ed up they were. It was more commentary on the people around them, you got the self pity in the California scene because those mother ****ers were acutally poor, I mean if you read about how Black Flag lived it was only because Ginn's parents brought them food occasionally.
I'm just pointing out that you guys act like you live some hard/rough lifestyle when you're getting Xbox 360s for christmas. Never seen Instrument, but it's like a movie basically. There's alot of film in it and they portray the band's demise really dark and well. It's very down to earth. The footage of the last show is pretty gritty but there's one show that they did on the tour that they filmed and it looks really good.
