Congrats on 7000 by the way.

BuddyBigsby
03-27-2005, 09:34 PM
Wow, I didn't even notice. SWEET!

It was really mixed. I only have Cryonics and just recently got Fair Trades, but judging from the songs that I do know and knowing what I do about how each release sounds, they played a pretty equal amount of songs from everything, actually maybe more off of Fair Trades. Like they only played maybe 3 or 4 songs off of Cryonics.

I'd like to see this argument you're talking about. I merely stated the facts, which are: some people think some mainstream bands are emo, and barging in this thread seeking to re-educate people like Bigsby and DFelon who (though I do not know them personally) are probably EXTREMELY familiar with the emo/screamo genre and scene. This is not an argument. It's what's already happening here and now.

Instead of replying to every word I say like you are gonna prove anything why don't you post something that is either
1. relevant and useful to this thread
2. related to emo/screamo.

By the way, yeah you did prove something Morzov: I could certainly not best you in being a *******. Must be a natural talent you have.

i don't think you guys get what he was saying... i already know i was wrong... i apologized... then this guy comes along and starts the same argument over again. An argument he already knows he can win because i already established the fact that i was wrong. So lets just drop it ok?

I wouldn't call Saetia overrated. I thing they really wrote some amazing stuff and are becoming legendary but I think that Hot Cross can and hopefully will write music that Saetia never touched and become more legendary than Saetia. I'm not sure it will happen just because Saetia are now silent and how they burned so brightly but died so quickly. It's kind of like a Sex Pistols/Clash kind of thing.

Ok this is a rant against the whole "emocore" thing

Where the **** did "emocore" come from? Doesn't "emo" already mean emotional hardcore, making emocore = emotional hardcore hardcore??

And I see people use "emocore" to describe bands that have no link whatsoever to emo, but rather sound like pop-punk. Could someone explain? Like if emocore is somewhat of a legit word or just a misconception that spawned from the wannabe emo noobs who take MTV's word as their bible?

cbmartinez
04-01-2005, 01:44 PM
I use because of lack of better word. I use it for bands that are pop-punk with the occasional scream though it is faulty because as you said, they have no emo in them. That's why Dfelon is advocating the term popcore, which I have begun to use.

I think on about 10 different pages in this therad you'll find me making the same argument about the word "emocore." It just doesn't make sense, so it's obviously something it is constructed for people who don't know any better, as in, people who get their music updates from Rolling Stone.

1. Rites Of Spring- Rites Of Spring (off to a good start)
2. Quicksand- Slip
3. Refused- The Shape Of Punk To Come
4. Fugazi- In On The Kill Taker
5. Thursday- Full Collapse
6. Sunny Day Real Estate- Diary (I don't think they even scream on this album)
7. At The Drive-In- The Relationship Of Command
8. Poison The Well- The Opposite Of December
9. Glassjaw- Worship And Tribute

So what the **** are Quicksand doing on that list?
Slint, alright, but Quicksand?? I've heard people dub Slint 'emo,' which is sort of okay, when I listen to Spiderland I hear the 'emo' connection with all the arpeggios and spoken word stuff, but calling Quicksand screamo or even emo is tantemount to murder.

Mastodon sucks REAL bad. Redneck metal is stupid.

No, you just don't get them. If you were into metal or musicianship, you'd be able to see they're talented. I'm not a huge fan, but I like them and saying they suck or that they're "redneck metal" is complete and utter stupidity.

Well, i barely came upon this forum, yeah i know, and seeing that you ppl are looking for suggestions i suggest you stop listening to "emo" and "screamo" First of all "screamo" is not even real music, anyone can make a song and just scream into a mic in a very high girlike voice. the same with emo. its just untalented ppl "making" new music, in reality butchering it. so start listening to some real music and leave the crap.

- Nevermind is a decent album that's been dragged dead and bleeding across the cliffs of Overratedness for over 10 years now by kids like you that were still in diapers when it came out.

- Hahahahahaha, ohhhhhhh a Fender Strat. Excuse me!

You are bringing the name of the strat down. I hate you.

He has been pwned by countless people already but keeps coming back for more. Do keep in mind such guitar greats have chosen the strat and he should not represent anything the strat stands for. I'm old. whats Screamo?

This isn't exactly gonna answer your question but i believe the definition is in the hardcore/metalcore community thread(first page)
My favorite screamo band is Circle Takes The Square, i guess screamo is screaming that tends to use a lot of imagery and such, as does emo. Im not 100% on that, because i haven't been into screamo that long.

cbmartinez
04-06-2005, 08:40 PM
Screamo is a heavier version of screamo, usually bordering on grind but having an extreme sense of art and emotion.

I thought the term emocore was around before emo. The first bands like Rites of Spring and stuff were called emocore because they evolved out of hardcore punk. Then, it was just shortened to emo. But recently people have been using "emocore" to describe bands like FATA, Thrice, A Static Lullaby etc., even though that's obviously wrong. Most people equate any music that has screaming and singing in it as emocore or screamo. I don't know, my whole explaination could be wrong, but that's how I see it.

Ya. It doesn't matter. To say emocore in 1984-85 would be legit because you'd be making the connection between hardcore and emotional hardcore. Nowadays it's total BS to call a band emocore because "emo" is an established term for "emotional hardcore" and people butcher the original concept of "emocore" with A Static Lullaby. Why? Why ASL? It stings me so much.

Clikatat Ikatowi are one of the most amazing bands ever.
All incredibly talented musicians.

I just can't into the vocals. I usually don't mind that spoken word thing, but they just annoy me.

Ok, I've been getting into Thursday more and more and was wondering which album I should get of theirs.

Definately get Full Collapse. That's what got me into what emo. Not directly, but from there I started listening to some post-hardcore, nu-emo, post-emo or popcore or whatever the **** you want to call it, then emo.

Never heard of them. I'll check them out.

haha even I've heard of them.

They're just amazing. That's all you need to know. And I do the best Devola vocal impression ever.

have you guys heard of Circa Survive? They're called post-hardcore, but I wouldn't trust that on its own. Also, the singer has very high-pitched vocals, but I don't mind.

Good band, but not material for this thread.

I don't see what's so great about them. The vocals are cool (I know plenty of people who think they are good just because they have Anthony Green) but the music is boring.

I'd be guilty of jocking them because of TDF before jocking them because of Anthony Green.

Ohhh. That's a plus. What's up with TDF's last album? It's all pop-punky.

I wouldn't call it pop-punky.... although I'm deeply in love with it and it may be my favorite one.

I like the music. I think it complements Green's voice well. I like what's going on here. Solid.

Also, anybody care to talk about Frodus? They are a post-hardcore band that has many many emo moments scream wise and dissonance wise. They're really cool and have the DC sound but are from Gainesville, so you can hear a lot of HWM influence in the vocal tone, but that's mostly when they sing and not scream.

Do parts of Little Girls Pointing And Laughing by Alexisonfire sound very emo-ish to anyone else? Just the build-up and how the vocals work together. I got that kind of feeling.

Or maybe I'm just insane.

On 'Presents' the JD vocals are bad, but on their other stuff they're amazing.

Frodus are awesome.

I always thought he sounded ridiculous on the older stuff. Nevertheless, I still liked them.
