woodwell, postlapsaria, some natures catch no plagues, one dying wish

are my favorite songs.

i could do without the faster more distortion-y songs

one dying wish sort of fits that category but it's awesome besides when did we begin

1) yeah they're playing tonight actually. they had a lineup change i guess w/ name change. dunno it though just saw it in a vlv thread somewhere. that's pretty damn tight though regardless.

2) i think they're equals. i really dig saetia but i feel like off minor has a way tighter sound.

3) my life just got uber f'ucked.

I agree with Saetia > Off Minor. Off Minor are still pretty raddddd though.

Postlapsaria, Ariadnes Thread, The Poet You Never Were, One Dying Wish, Some Natures Catch No Plagues, and An Open Letter are my favorites.

I dont see anything too wrong with the 'when did we begin' part in One Dying Wish, even though I do recognize the sceams sound kind of like Gollum.

10-24-2006, 09:02 PM
Hahaha, yeah, that was one of the first songs my friends heard from Saetia one night when we were playing Risk, and we were all yelling at each other over the game (if you've ever played risk, you know how it is) and then the deep dude came in and it got quiet. Then this one kid was just like "whoah what the hell was that?".

whiteminority
10-24-2006, 09:07 PM
Hahahahaha.

I showed Saetia off to my buddy Zander (really into slow melodic stuff and Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil) and he was like "so this is emo?" I said yes, he then promptly turned off the cd player and said "it's still a bunch of pussies." This made me laugh to no end.

Hahaha, thats great.

We didnt have anything to do in physics today, so my friend Tim, some girl, my physics teacher and I were all playing different card games, and my teacher was talking about how he's down with speed/power metal and how he used to freak out his roomate in college because he listened to Ministry and always talks in a near-monotone voice.

Nah dude, hes radddd, him and the chemistry teacher both. The chemistry teacher is constantly lighting stuff on fire, too. On one of the first days of school last year when I had him, he had this fluid (its name escapes me) that would make big flammable bubbles in mid air, so he made a bubble with it, let it float for a little bit, then picked up this girls notebook and held it above the bubble and lit it. It was seriously awesome.

You need to be introduced to the world of doom and sludge.

pixiesfanyo
10-25-2006, 04:13 PM
Uh. I'm game with doom and sludge.

Listening to Jane Doe, I find it hard to believe there is a more intense band.

AndreTheHyena
10-25-2006, 04:17 PM
Dillinger Escape Plan, maybe? DEP's live show was about 100 times more intense and brutal than Converge's.

pixiesfanyo
10-25-2006, 04:18 PM
lol. DEP isn't brutal at all.

AndreTheHyena
10-25-2006, 04:19 PM
What?

whiteminority
10-25-2006, 04:20 PM
Heavy and intense are different.

Candlemass is way heavier than Gospel, but Gospel is exponentially more intense.

AndreTheHyena
10-25-2006, 04:21 PM
Facedownin**** are pretty heavy. I don't really consider Converge "heavy", just really chaotic.

pixiesfanyo
10-25-2006, 04:23 PM
Well, okay. They're the most INTENSE band ever.

I guess stuff like Esoteric is heavier, but Converge is probably the band most likely to piss off your parents.

10-25-2006, 04:25 PM
I like that description, 'band most likely to piss off your parents'.

AndreTheHyena
10-25-2006, 04:28 PM
I think bands like Slipknot are a lot more likely to piss off parents than Converge. And I stand by saying that DEP were more intense than Converge.

Facedowninshit ****ing rule.

pixiesfanyo
10-25-2006, 04:30 PM

it's like Pattonesque POP.

Plus on Jane Doe, they ****ing just have like SOUND under the mix of insturments.

It's ridic.

AndreTheHyena
10-25-2006, 04:32 PM
Yeah, I've heard Miss Machine and don't like it at all, for that very reason. Have you heard their EP with Patton or Calculating Infinity? Or Botch?

pixiesfanyo
10-25-2006, 04:36 PM
Yes..

I'll list three reasons why Converge is heavier than DEP and Botch

# 1.) Bannon.
# 2.) Converge chugga chuggas, DEP is being technical most of the time and Botch is all about syncopation.
# 3.) Lyrically Converge is just a giant **** YOU. DEP is just stupid lyrically, and Botch tries to be political.

cobert
10-25-2006, 04:38 PM
I think bands like Slipknot are a lot more likely to piss off parents than Converge.

No, bands like Slipknot are just more likely to piss off people that know better music and can see past corny gimmicks.

AndreTheHyena
10-25-2006, 04:41 PM
But parents? Are they going to be offended by artsy metalcore with indecipherable lyrics or ridiculous, blatant heavy metal with intelligible lyrics filled with "****s" and stupid "demonic" imagery?

whiteminority
10-25-2006, 04:45 PM
Guys seriously music that is most likely to piss parents off is music with lyrics that are able to be deciphered and these lyrics are saying things that annoy the parents. Hence Slipknot >>>>>>>> Converge, in most likely to piss parents off. The only band that has made my mom pissed is In the Nightside Eclipse because as we were listening to it it freaked her out and she said this, and I quote "Ben, this absolutley terrible." me "What's wrong with it?" "I want to say like 5 Hail Mary's right now for starters."

pixiesfanyo

Like 5 of us grabbed the mic all at once and then 486486957534524635 people jumped on top of us.

Probably the best live show I've seen. Then again, Ampere is my favorite band...so...

If it wasn't such a dickhead thing to do, I'd ask Billy to see if Hot Cross could play Postlapsaria and that's it. I'd settle for even An Open Letter.

I went ape during their set, man. Everyone did. Meg got so into it. She accidentally slammed some dude in the face with her bass.

I wanted to play her Ric but I didn't wanna ask. I couldn't have, anyway, but I love Rics. Such a good feel to them.

about the not wanting to talk about saetia thing. it makes total sense to me.

they played shows to only a handful of kids when they were around. now that they are doing new stuff, kids who we never around supporting saetia want to talk about saetia instead of being excited about the stuff they are actually doing now. why should they want to talk about saetia with those kids? i bet if somebody who was at saetia shows wanted to talk about it with them it would be a different story.

the time i saw hot cross a couple years ago is a perfect example. there were like 5 people there to see them. i was one of them, another was a friend of mine that i brought who had never heard of them before, and the other three sat around talking about saetia and pointing at billy saying he was "the guy from saetia". and then when hot cross came on they looked almost uninterested and left immediately after without buying one piece of merch or even saying good show to the guys.

i'm glad i was really into seeing them that show because thats probably the only time i will ever see them play anything off of a new set of lungs and cryonics. when i saw them saturday, they only played one "old" song, and that was from fair trades and farewells. so i'm just glad i get to see hot cross at all. i'm sure when they break up, a ton of kids that never supported them when they were around will obsess over them too.

That's the demo 7". How was their set?
amazing. i never expected it to be that awesome.

a lot of times i expect more choatic music like that to somewhat just sound like noise live. but they were really tight. just as good as the recordings.

the most awesome part was the energy of the whole place. it wasn't a big show though, maybe just a little bigger than a normal small show a band like that would play. the place was pretty packed, but it was just a tiny little bar. but the thing that made it different was so many people had come from all over to be there and were really excited about it.

with my experiences down here, a lot of times at small shows everybody just stands around, even the people that are into it. and this is even more true with bands like these. and i don't think it is just down here, because i see the same thing when i watch videos on youtube. but at this, everybody was into it. there was so much movement and energy. there were mic rushes, people were jumping into the crowd and getting held up and carried around, ect. for example, there was like a 5 ft. high divider towards the side of the room that separated off the bar area, and people were jumping off that into the crowd. even the vocalist was jumping into the crowd. everybody would like spaz out for the intense parts. haha. and then rush back in to yell vocals.

when they ended, they put everything down and started unplugging stuff, but none of the crowd wanted to leave or for them to stop playing. people weren't chanting for "one more song" or any of that stupid ****, it was just like everybody stood there facing the stage not accepting that the show was over. so they picked everything back up and played another one, then put it all back down and starting breaking down again. but the crowd did the same thing again. so they picked everything up again and played another one. they finished, same thing happened, and they played a third. hahaha.

it was just so awesome, i already can't wait for next year's fest. even the bands were talking about how great it was. billy was talking about how most fests don't really live up to the expectations, but this one does. and sinaloa even spent a ton of money and vacation time from work flying down just to play the fest.

ya, i do get that vibe a little, i think he isn't too big on the whole scene. but when i bought some merch from him both times i've seen them he was pretty cool. at fest, he went out to the van to get something for me, and was talking to me conversationally. he asked what my name was, answered my questions about whether they had the old stuff all worked out and down for one guitar, talked about their new stuff, ect. he could have had no conversation if he wanted, because i wasn't really trying for one. it probably depends on the type of kid that hes talking to.

but greg was way cooler. he answered level plane questions for me, and just chatted for quite a while. apparently he's from tampa and his parents still live in the area, so that bodes well for future tour dates.

I didn't get a hangover today. I usually don't get them. :D

I just smoked and drank last night, then went to a show. It was pretty cool. The band was a student band from here but they were really good.

being halloween and all, post your favourite eerie/creepy bands or albums people.
The Fantomas can get pretty creepy.

Is that the show about the nuclear bomb going off? It didn't look too bad.

cobert
11-01-2006, 10:24 PM
Yeah, thats it. It thought it was going to be waaaay corny. It still kind of is, but its interesting to see the plot and twists unravel. Ive never seen Lost, but from what I hear, it makes me think that Jericho is like Lost for dumb people.

I kind of wish I wouldve started watching Lost when it first aired so I could catch all of the little things from the beginning.

AIRIC

The only part I've seen is maybe the 2nd or 3rd episode where there is a huge crowd in this bar after the bomb goes off. The owner and her friends want everyone to leave but they wont so this guy makes some speach about how everyone is going to die a painful death and then they all leave and this guy and the owner make out.

Yeah that's really corny but the show doesn't look too bad.

Yes, they just recently found out the extent of the attacks and they see that a lot of places all over the US got hit.

Still not as good as Tales From The Crypt.

Me and my boy are singing "Bitches Ain't ****" with our acoustics tomorrow at my boys birthday party. Should be bomb.

My one friend got drunk at a halloween party and was trying to hug this kid and everyone got pissed off at him, so I took him upstairs and just told him to go to sleep.
