I went to get American Psycho yesterday and the lady said it still sells like crazy and they didnt have a copy. Im getting it sometime next week when I go out.

I know some slut who let some guy bang her with a line of coke on his dick.

What would be the point of that?

You'd just get numb vagina?

People are so ****ing stupid.

It'd be cooler if he just took a line off her back while he was taking her from behind.

But that happened in Nip/Tuck.

It was cool though.

Cocaine is over rated.

I went to a psychadelic festival last night.

It was pretty cool.

But, I bet it went on for 40 minutes too long, like most lectures.

cobert
10-07-2006, 03:20 PM
It was an hour long.

The guy talking said in the beginning about a study that was done that showed for the first 10 minutes of a lecture, everyone payed attention, then 10 minutes later, their minds started to drift away, and then 10 minutes after that, most of them started thinking of sexual fantasies, so he told us all that we'd definitely enjoy ourselves.

Because it's an amazing book. It's written in like that old language yet it's easy to understand. But it's just a really good book too. I think I'm gonna read the other two even though they're not going to be as cool as reading about hell.

Thank You For Smoking is excellent, I saw it in theatres.
oh, i see what your saying. i just don't really think like that. i personally just don't see much point in reading some guy's made up vision of hell because it is well written. there is just so much real stuff out there that i want to learn about first.

i just finished "diplomacy" by henry kissinger, which was amazingly good. now i'm debating between "the history of the peloponnesian war" by thucydides and "on killing" by lt. col. dave grossman.

The Inferno is just good to read, because like the Bible, people allude to it alot. It's alot easier to understand poetry, and "flowery" writing when you've read alot of "classics" persay, because lots of authors now make references too them, that would otherwise be lost.

srt-4
10-07-2006, 04:19 PM
very good point. but taking into account time constraints, i just don't find it to be a very good use of my time. i would rather focus on "classic" writers more grounded in reality like aristotle, machiavelli, hobbes, locke, ect. and i have read the Bible, being of infinitely more importance than the inferno.

What do you mean grounded in reality?

Every piece of great literature is grounded in reality, it's just some stories use fictional enviroments too get across their social/political issues. The inferno examines the seven deadly sins and other such nonsense, it's basically just a poetic commentary on the evils of our lives.

by more grounded in reality i mean addressing real-life issues and correspondingly offering applicable insights and knowledge to a greater extent. i just don't see the inferno imparting very much useful knowlege when compared to some other "classics." if we are talking about religious-based western classics, i would put works from saint thomas aquinas and saint augustine, for instance, far above dante's in terms of practical usefulness.

i'm not saying its a bad work to read or anything though. i'm just saying, i personally don't see much point in reading it right now.

Matt?
10-09-2006, 11:03 PM
i don't think it could really come to that. i guarantee we have hundreds to thousands of CIA agents planning exactly how to prevent that from occuring.

the US policy has been preemptive strikes for the past fifty years, so i don't really worry about it coming to that, if it even neared that possibility we would take care of buisness before anything could happen.

it definitely sucks that there are dumba'sses with powerful weapons but theres a lot of dangerous stuff out there, and it's one of our governments main jobs to keep that stuff away from us as much as possible.

Dumba'ss read my post again
i read your post. and i didn't think i had to lay everything out step by step for you. but i guess i do.

the cia probably has at best a handful of human assets in north korea, if even that many. they certainly do not have the ability to prevent north korea from using nuclear weapons. other than that, the cia mainly collects analyzes intelligence. the only way to really prevent north korea from ever using its nuclear weapons is by military strikes. hence my much shorter statement, "the cia doesn't plan military strikes."

and can you tell me what preemption means, because your use of it doesn't make much sense to me.

Matt?
10-09-2006, 11:23 PM
preemptive: 2. taken as a measure against something possible, anticipated, or feared; preventive; deterrent: a preemptive tactic against a ruthless business rival.

what i mean is if the CIA ever percieved even the smallest amount of threat that that bomb was gonna be launched, there would be extensive military and diplomatic actions by our government and army to prevent it.

look at iraq.

hahahahhaha. ya, the cia was dead on about iraq.

and no, when you talk about preemption in a geopolitical context you can't simply copy a dictionary definition. it has come to be agreed in international law that preemptive strikes fall under the self-defense article of the united nations (i forget the exact number at the moment). under that, preemptive strikes can be taken against a nation readying to launch an offensive, usually this would involve a buildup of forces at border regions, putting military forces on alert, making threatening statements, and breaking off diplomatic relations. a good example is the 1967 war, and whether that legally met the qualifications necessary for preemption is still debated. most countries in the world claim the right to preemption under the un charter. so i really don't understand why you would state that its US policy as if that should for some reason allay fears over north korea.

furthermore, it really wouldn't be applicable for at least a decade, as north korea is at least that long away from being able to develop and deploy missiles that could reach the US. the fears over a nuclear north korea are much more complex than them simply attacking us. so preemption really has no relevance.

you obviously have more education or knowledge in the political realm, but i've lived in this country long enough to know that if someone has weapons and is threatening to use them on someone else, we really don't tolerate that. we have been born in war and we will grow up through war. we don't just let people launch bombs at us or other countries. this is what our trillions of dollars go towards.

basically my entire point, before i head off to bed, was that as such a superpower and influential country in world politics, i feel like we don't have that much to fear from north korea. it's obviously a bad situation, but i truely am not afraid of them.

what i meant in the last sentance was that we won't truely even have to be afraid of north korea for another decade if it even comes to that.

well, the worry isn't that they will launch a nuclear armed missile at us yet, the concerns are mostly with the transmission of technology and knowledge to another country that i'll leave unnamed, and regional destabilization and arms races. but i don't want to go into it too much. i really like your optimism and faith in our country. and i'm not trying to convince you to live in fear. much better to leave the worrying to people like myself that have made the decision with their lives to worry about this type of stuff.
