La Quiete passed through NC earlier this month and I'm really upset I was unable to see them. I had planned on going ever since I heard they were playing, but lack of money/gas/etc got the best of me, so I was unable to go. Ughhh, it would have been an amazing show, too.

I used to love Envy. A Dead Sinking Story is an awesome album, then I got All The Footprints... and I thought it was good too. Then I got Insomniac Doze and was just disappointed. I realized how all three of those albums sound exactly the same. There's no progression at all.

So I've got this speech class, as in public speaking, and one of our speeches is informative and I was thinking, emo might be a good one. Should I? I have to have visual aids, I'd probably use clips of emo songs, etc. Talk about the history and all. My audience will be 18-20 year olds. Good idea? Bad idea? Shut the **** up we don't care?

I don't think it's a good idea. All you'll get is a bunch of people saying "wtf, this sounds just like slipknot who cares" or something stupid.
For the majority of people the only genres that exist to them are country, rock, rap, punk and classical. Anything beyond that and they'll have no idea what you're even talking about.

Well it's supposed to informative, so it's fine if they have no idea.
There is quite a few musicially ignorant people in my class, but I know for a fact even if they don't care, they will show interest and support, as it's a requirement for the class to be positive.

well, I've always sought just been me, very reserved didn't show much emotion.... listening to like hard rock, metal, jazz and what not.
Just over the last couple weeks or so, maybe a little more, I've found I've been much more emotional. One day I was peaking and troughing from being really depressed to being really happy every 15 minutes. I cried once for the first time in ages. Just a few days ago I was feeling down and I cut myself to see what it likes.... I didn't really enjoy it though it actually made me feel better. And also I've been getting into more punk/hardcore/emo type bands senses fail, my chemical romance etc. which normally when I hear I just turn off because I don't like the screaming.... but for some reason they actually made sense to me. As far as fashion I don't dress emo at all really, other than I have a few black shirts.

no offense, it's a pretty ok list for the purpose but i personally don't like it.
the way i see it is you took most of the emo bands i never listen too and put them on a mixtape. snoozefest for me. but i mean i guess a lot of those bands are "important"
i dunno how i'd improve it though.

I dont regularly listen to about half of those bands either, but thats just because im picky. I listen to most of them occasionally though. I was just trying to get some of the differnt types of emo down, just so I could introduce it easier to my friends.

That is what im going for, but i just organized the bands into groups of 4 or 5 for the different stages. You can see how the first few on there are early emo and the stuff that influenced them, then it goes more into the indie, then chaotic stuff.
Gross.
gtfo, The Number Twelve r00l.
But just to clarify for the other guy, theyre not emo.

Now that you mention it, Gav and I were thinking of doing another song soon.
But I also started a band about World of Warcraft with my friend Joey called The Undead Poet Society so I dunno.

Oh what the hell, a few weeks ago this came up and it was just me and you that didnt think they were gay, now I guess its just me.
I need to start a real band around here, not some watered down generic popcore that lists Bullet For My Valentine as their influences.
If youre influenced by a band that youve only been hearing for 2 months, thats called being a rip-off.

My favourite embrace song is can't forgive. Maybe i should listen to the other songs more if no one else agrees haha.
Dag Nasty should be The Godfather.
I love that song.

Im still not sure if I want Dag Nasty on there. If somebody can think of another band ill replace them, or maybe just take them out.
To me they're just hardcore.

09-02-2006, 04:54 PM
Yeah, thats why im questioning if they should be on there. Husker Du was just hardcore too, but they were like, proto-emo.
