DFelon204409
07-15-2006, 01:24 PM
Oh it's like 6 bucks. The emo stuff is cheap there because I'm pretty sure that it's been sitting on the shelves for years waiting for people to pick it up. I'm guessing that when these bands like June of '44 were releasing CDs and were hot items on sites like epitonic.com, Amoeba would stock their crap full of them and they didn't all sell. They don't have much new stuff. I saw their CD division things with no new CDs in them for like semi-local older bands like Yaphet Kotto, and others, as well as You and I who have been done since 2000. So ya, whatever. When I go back I'll mention it and people can make a wishlist and I'll look for stuff.

Also the show was tight. As I said IWASMOFFY had a surprise performance, which was decent. Then a band, apparently local, called Salinas y los Dios came on and they were decent. They sounded directly inbetween Ampere and The Walls You've Built because they had those faster screamo songs and the longer calmer emo ones. Then was Life at These Speeds who were really fun I thought and then a band called Makata I think. They were okay too. I had been talking to the bassist about Sparks earlier since he was drinking one. I asked him why he and this girl was drinking a diet one and he said because he was diabetic, but then I said that's legit but that girl has no excuse and she was confused. haha.

DFelon204409
07-15-2006, 01:30 PM
Uhh that band announced themselves as Salinas y los Dios but that was obviously a joke or a name change since they're actually i wrote haikus about cannibalism in your yearbook. They have a www.myspace.com/iwrotehaikusaboutcannibalisminyouryearbook the recordings suck and they play this sooooo loose but live they were legit.

I liked how FTM felt more epic overall than Deloused. Theres parts where the bass is just repeating some riff in an odd time signature, and the drums are almost improvising, and so is the guitar, and it just felt so spacy, I loved it. FTM was a more technical album, too, and had more energy than Deloused.

cbmartinez
07-16-2006, 05:07 PM
Cicatriz is the best song ever. FTM felt forced and pretentious at points. Deloused has much better flow. Both fantastic albums though.

cobert
07-16-2006, 05:10 PM
I feel like The Mars Volta finally got to do what theyve wanted to do with FTM. They said in an interview that if it wasnt for Deloused doing as good as it did, they wouldnt have been able to make a 5 song record with one song long enough to be played on the radio. I like the 'flow' of FTM more too, they build up and release energy in so many good parts of that album.

But I agree, both albums are great.

EDIT: Drunkship and Take The Veil are the best songs on Deloused.

Nah, I liked De-Loused more because of it's higher energy and more aggressive sound, so I wouldn't say FTW had more energy at all. I do agree that it was much mroe technical though, and fittied the band's personality so much better, if you know what I mean. I have the new album downloaded, but I haven't actually listened to it more than once for some reason. :/

Guys, I saw Sparrows Swarm and Sing on Friday and I have to say that they are the best band I have ever seen so far. Not to mention the most innovative I have ever heard/seen.

The show was f'ucking insane. They had two drummers, two guitarists, a bassist, violinist (who was also the guitarist), and a cellist (who also played the xylophone). Their set was incredible, 30 min non stop. The music was incredible, I was fascinated with the dual drumming. The best part was when the second drummer got up and sat down on the floor where there were these trash can lids (?) or something like them and he started drumming on them, still matching the other drummer perfectly. I was in shock.

You guys need to check these guys out if you haven't already, and definitely see them if you get a chance. Most innovative band I've ever seen.

I have a YSI link of their CD that I bought, if anyone wants it--hit me up.

Nor can i, Matthew, nor can I.

The drummer of my 'band' is kinda being a dick, he wants me to find a guitarist, cause right now im on guitar and my friend Vin is playing bass (even though he doesnt really know how to, hes okay). Still, what were doing now works, but the drummer is being all pissy. We could start doing things seriously if it wasnt for that.

So some bar got robbed on saturday near my house, and some younger guy, early 20's, ran out scared, and got shot in the head. Then, yesterday, some 52 year old man got ran over by a truck that was pulling out of a parking spot right behind where Im sitting right now on my computer. Seriously, I missed it. Like, I couldve turned around and saw a completely crushed old dude out of my window.

Listen to "This is a Hostage Situation" by Off Minoir. At about 1:00 in, they slow it down and have that jazzy part.
