there was an artcore band at my school. i was friends with one of the kids in it.

he played bass, and he actually didn't do anything he just like played one note through every song, and i think the guitar player just made up the songs as he went along, as the singer read lyrics from his notebook.

they used to read a story about moon hamburgers at every show.

Its more than just the 3 simple power chords in a hardcore song. Some of it is close to emo, but there isn't a "definitive" band. The genre ranges from Hopesfall to Trophy Scars, from Thursday to The Fall of Troy. I don't know how well I explained but I hope it helps a little.

Post-hardcore and emo are kind of related. When people say post-hardcore is hardcore 'taken further', theyre right and everything, but it seems like if you asked somebody what emo was and they gave you that answer, it would still fit. Theyre both more 'out there' versions of hardcore.

Post-hardcore could simply be called progressive hardcore. Its a very broad genre. Like suggested, listen to Trophy Scars and Thursday, then try out Fugazi and Glassjaw. All different sounds in the same genre.

Yeah, I've gained that much from the bands I listen to and such. But, I'm getting tired of having to either explain emo to people, or just staying quiet about it completely, so I figured calling the bands post-hardcore could be viable, since emo does seem to fit in with the genre.

Don't worry about it. The worst that can happen is going psychotic, but that only happens at verry high dosages with frequent use. So I doubt that could even happen to you tonight.
