My Chemical Romance wanted to book a show with my old posthardcore-ish band called Lorelei (I played bass). I talked to Gerard and Mikey on AIM and they were totally into it, saying they wanted to play with us because they dug our stuff.

None of us had ever heard them but we were like dude, they wanna play with us in New York and said they'd try to book us in Jersey with them, too, but the gig offered was for somewhere near NYC.

So they sent us their PureVolume or whatever...

...and we laughed...

...so we never showed up to play and they never talked to us again.

you know the saying, you gotta eat big to get big. there is nothing really unhealthy about getting a lot of calories, as long as your body can use them. i just stay away from saturated and trans fats. and i only eat there when the alternative is not eating at all, like on days i have classes all day. and as far as them not storing stuff at the right temps and the like, correct me if i'm wrong, but i didn't think food poisoning had a cumulative effect, so if im not getting sick it probably isn't hurting me.

i'm telling you guys, the diet is where its at. i worked out for years and it got me nowhere. then i started eating a ton, but cutting out bad fats and i went from like 6'4" 155 lbs at probably like 12% body fat to 6'4" 190 lbs at 5% body fat. just from changing my diet. i even worked out less than i used to. i see some of you guys talk about being small, all you gotta do is eat right and work out a little, like a total of 3 hours for the whole week, and you can put on size.

Pop-punk, like all genres of music, can come in many different flavors. And especially if there is a gap of time between the bands and if there is a time of progression. Blink and MxPx are a little older, so they will have a different sound than today's pop-punk of TBS, Fall Out Boy, etc.

A locational clarification is even worse than a term like "screamo" which refers to the description of music. It's like calling Thrice a Christian Band (too parrallel your "locational clarifications") as opposed to calling them metal/post-hardcore (which like screamo, describes their sound).

I think you what you mean is that screamo is the chaotic form of 90's emo, and the answer is no. Emo is a constantly evolving genre, even today you can't say there is a specific sound to it. We have bands like Ampere, and Hot Cross, and Gospel who all sound soo different, but are still considered to be a part of the same scene and genre. Similarly there were a few bands who took on a more chaotic approach in the scene, and for some reason we have decided to call that "screamo" and any band that exists during and after these chaotic bands are also labeled "screamo", and then "screamo" is viewed as the new "emo". This is false. Emo changes, that doesn't constitute a new genre, its mostly an innovative genre so to make subgenres from "emo" would be absolutely ridiculous and unecessarily time consuming. So there was some bands who took on a more screamy-chaotic approach, big deal. So there are bands now that take on a more technical approach, do they need a genre? We have bands that like to use viola or violin in songs, does that mean we need a subgenre for them too? As you can see..its just utterly ridiculous.

EDIT: Chrisitanity is not a place of origin and consequently not a location. It is a religion. Therefore calling Thrice a Christian band doesn't describe their location or music, so thats just completely irrelevant.

I was just pointing out that you seem to blow some minor clarifications out of proportion when most of the people in this thread (myself included) are guilty of unbecoming behavior just as "bad" as using the term screamo. I applaud you for making a good case of your opinion. I understand what you are saying, but you have to try to see what i'm saying. You say "simply because music is a new form of an existing genre...", my point is that screamo is NOT a NEW form of anything. Its just a few bands who took a chaotic approach, my point being that they don't justify a new genre. Emo is innovative as hell, so just a few bands who try something different and take hints from each other, doesn't necessarily constitute a new genre. The name emo comes about as a new genre because A LOT of bands took on a new approach to the hardcore scene. It was a bit revolutionary. You might notice a sort of split between the hardcore bands and the so called emo bands. You have stuff like Blacklisted, Modern Life Is War, Comeback Kid, etc. and then you have bands like Sinaloa, Ampere, Gospel, Hot Cross...they are like two different styles/approaches that stem from ONE scene/genre, known as hardcore. So because Emo is a new approach/style it justifies being a new genre. Screamo on the other hand is not a revolutionary approach to emo. Its just a few bands who sped things up and decided to be more chaotic. What if there were 5 more bands who had guitar riffs like Hot Cross and similar vocal styles to Billy? Would that constitute a new subgenre of emo? Certainly not. The same is the case with screamo. I don't have a problem with people calling those few bands "screamo" for classification purposes, thats fine and dandy even though its a little pet peeve of mine, its just that the word "screamo" is often perverted to mean all bands post-saetia, or any new band in the scene, and also suggests that the aforementioned Emo genre is dead. This is also certainly NOT the case. Its ok to refer to a few of those Orchid-esque bands as screamo, but you can't suggest that its a whole new wave of music and that every recent band in the emo scene is a "screamo" band. Somehow "screamo" has become the new "emo" and that is where I have a problem and feel the need to clarify this. But yeah, it is all hardcore essentially, and hardcore is punk rock essentially. I don't care to define bands as "emo" or "modern hardcore" or anything, ultimately its just punk rock to me, and should be to you too.

EDIT TO CHRIS: I wasn't bitter dude, it's all good. I was just kidding around about "owning". And like I said up there, I don't mind it being used in reference to those bands, its just when its used the wrong way with a wrong understanding that gets on my brown nerves.
