Hmmm man. OtMoP are just incredible. I can't think of any that are close, but I can think of bands you'd like if you dig them, like The Appleseed Cast.

Oh and srt, I said that to him because HH are awful and I hate them for converting people I know to scenesters.

hahaha scenester is a cult! and Gav, if you dig OTMOP you might also like At The Drive, Sparta, or some midwest bands like Rockets and Blue Lights, Bells on Trike, Cap n' Jazz...etc, if you don't listen to those bands already, that is. Midwest emo has that clean guitar/singing/screamy kinda thing going, similar to OTMOP.

What I meant is is it a DIY venue? A club? Where do they get the money to pay a band (a HARDCORE band playing their first show.. I assume it's ahardcore band or at least a band with a hardcore DIY attitude) 500 something dollars?

I mistated what I said. I'm sorry I should have been clearer. We sold $535 worth of tickets. The venue pays each band according to how many tickets they sell and how many people show up for them. The venue then takes $200 out of what you made. So we made ourselves $335. Its still pretty good for a band's first show. Its a small venue. About 3/4 or so the size of Chain Reaction. We had more people come out for us than for any other band that played with us that night. And we played with the biggest/most popular band in the city/area. Once again I'm sorry for causing the confusion.

I'm really glad all of you guys are in bands. I've been going to private school since 6th grade so there is such a narrow range of people to choose from in terms of musical taste and instrumental ability. I've never really had the opportunity to be in a real band (reference: DRACULACORE) and have had to do it all myself (reference: Greer, Prime Meridian), so it's tight to see a proliferation of tight music through people I hope to influence/help/support through this unusually personal forum.

Thanks. I know how you feel just that my situation was easier. In my band everyone else goes to a different school than me and 3 of the guys live in other cities. It some ways its an adantage. But it also makes things harder with rides and such. I'm just really happy right now.

Ya. The only people I knew who played instruments and liked similar music were already in a band or I didn't know well enough to just start a band with. Also, I guess going to a school with lots of schoolwork also sucked my time up. Whatever. There was one band from my high school called Jubala (http://www.myspace.com/jubala). They have some good songs and some really bad songs. Sort of like Sublime/Incubus radio rock with a little more intelligence at moments and lot less intelligence at other moments. "Aphrodisiac" is an awesome song but others leave a lot to be desired.

I know how it is not having a lot of people to choose from. Everyone around here who is in a band is doing either a The Strokes or Bullet For My Valentine type stuff which really sucks. I don't mind the Strokes (I love them actually) but I wouldn't want to play their style of stuff. But luckily I am getting a drum machine and I have one buddy who plays guitar so I might be doing something in the near future.

Dfelon, i go to a private school too, and no one there is even familiar with hardcore or punk rock at the least. I have yet to meet anyone besides my bandmate who is into similar music...and we can't find a drummer/bassist. So yeah, its very frustrating growing up in an area where there are no musicians. I don't consider En Medias Res to be a "real" band either because we do like so many instruments ourselves to make up for our lack of people, so we can't really do shows and stuff.

Wow

I was able to play in an emo band for about two months before we disbanded.
The stupid drummer stopped showing up.
He said he was inspired by From First to Last.
That was a bad sign from the start.
I saw a sweet band this weekend, helloRomeo, and they were tight.

I really wanna do this kind of band, but decent drummers are hard to come by.
I'll just settle for the pop-core/post-hardcore band I'm in.

now that was completely unbelievable. if people were gullible enough to believe that i feel sorry for them.

on the other hand, he comes on here, knows what hes talking about, and says he used to be in reach out. seemed believable. and it really wasn't funny to me. like when somebody in real life says something that is pointless or doesn't make sense and the only response is "ummm.......ok." thats what it was like to me when it was revealed as a this big "joke".

gah my internet died yesterday

i called the comcast people and for some reason it automatically directed me to a south florida comcast line with some indian lady. i mean, when it asked what language i wanted i pressed 1 for english, not 1 for bad english :( , so after deciphering her accent, i realized i needed to call my local comcast station.

so i called it and it just made this wierd buzzing noise for like five minutes.

hopefully it'll be fixed by tommorow
