Yeah it's not like the olden days, I know, but there's still a few bands like Toru Okada and Wow, Owls!. Sure, the music's not exactly like how it used to be, but it's still around. Emo is almost completely dead, though.
And JFFB are just emo. Sure they're fast, but they lack that completely chaotic signature screamo sound.
You don't really get the whole screamo concept do you
I get what I've been told for the past..... three years. If I'm wrong, oh well.
What's the best Yaphet Kotto album?

First two albums.. Syncopated and The Killer
So I'm thinking about ordering the following cds from 29northrecords.
- Hot Cross - Fair Trades or A New Set Of Lungs (someone tell me which is better)
- City Of Caterpillar - S/t
- A Day In Black And White - My Heroes Have Always Killed Cowboys
- Bright Calm Blue - A Direct Approach For Casual Conversation
- Yaphet Kotto - The Killer Was In The Government Blanket (except if someone thinks one of their other two is better)
- Stop It!! - Self Made Maps.

New Set of Lungs.
If I were you I'd get Syncopated and The Killer and lose one of the other albums, like ADIBAW.
I've put off buying that ADIBAW cd for too long.

Definitely! Good point.
And also get the new Sinaloa instead of maybe the Bright Calm Blue record.
Yeah I wanted to get the Sinaloa one but it's sold out.

Wiat a week or two
Yeah I will 'cause I still have to try and get my dad to let me use his credit card.
Yeah, I didn't realise it was BCB's new record on the list. Ditch that. Not that great.

My Heroes have always killed cowboys is good you should defenitely buy it..ditch BCB or HotCross.
He should ditch both My Heroes and BCB for Syncopated and Sinaloa.
Saturday Supercade
11-05-2005, 12:26 PM
true..but he should also buy My Heroes
Nah. He should just download it and listen to it for a day before it gets old. Yes, the album's amazing, but it didn't have much replay value for me. Besides "The Gaze."
I've had it on my Creative Zen for ages and it has definitely not become boring. I still get shivers every time I hear The Illusion To The End.
And no way am I ditching BCB.
Probably won't get Hot Cross- and get either the Sinaloa (if they get it) or the other Yaphet Kotto for it.

hey i got a question!! I couldn't open a new threat because I did not have permission to access this page and consequently i will write it down here. So, I would like to know what special guitar techniques are used in emo/emocore or do they have a certain scheme or something like this? What are the differences to a punk guitar? Can you show me any examples?
If there is a threat with the same question I'm sorry but i didn't found one.
thanks for the help...

Sep- if you want Cryonics on CD, I'll send it to you for a couple bucks + shipping
I'd buy it if I didn't live in Oman. The postal service here is too unreliable.
I'd buy it off you next time I go to Holland, though.

Usually the guitar players use picks, and play notes until they feel it sounds good, then make a song with it.

Ha Ha Ha. Not funny.
Drivingnaked- Mostly octave chords (like 7x9, but just try using more strings, even all six. As long as it sounds good)

You guys NEED to hear Rolo Tomassi. Screamo/spazz band all about 16 cept the singer who is apparently a 15 year old girl. awesome awesome awesome. Yet also the most depressing thing ever. Theyve got some tracks up here, but they are a bit too short compared to their other stuff.

Screamo is much more chaotic. I personally think real emo is more or less dead these days (I'm talking in the vein of hoover, still life etc). Unless there are bands that are like them that are around today that I don't know about? Anyways, I prefer said bands to screamo.

Emo is used to describe almost any form of guitar-driven alternative rock that expresses emotions beyond traditional punk's limited emotional palette of alienation and rage Emo-Fashion is a term used to describe someone with tight jeans black hair over the eyes and tight t-shirts or sweaters it is impossible to "be" emo since emo is a genre of music you can dress like the members of "emo" and people (like you people) consider you "emo" and make fun of you for the music you like so **** off assholes

Emo is a specific sounding form of music which developed after the 80's hardcore scene, Emo is short for Emotional Hardcore. There is no fashion to Emo. What you are thinking of is a recent trend in mis labeled music by the mainstreem society in order to make more money.

he's not the one making a complete and total *** out of himself. he's also not the one who's so damn ignorant in his own false opinions to listen to what anyone else is saying. what reiner is saying is more or less fact. you are saying what you THINK emo is just because you listen to what you again merely THINK emo music is without actually knowing how it started and how it became what it is today. REAL emo is more or less dead these days, emotional music is not, but EMO basically is

last time I checked I don't think anyone has claimed to be an "emo kid" on these boards? and if one were to claim such, they would most likely be refering to the fact that they listen to emo, therefor, they call themselves an emo kid. much like a lot of people that listen to hardcore or are part of the hardcore "scene" call themselves hardcore or scene kids

Emo is used to describe almost any form of guitar-driven alternative rock that expresses emotions beyond traditional punk's limited emotional palette of alienation and rage Emo-Fashion is a term used to describe someone with tight jeans black hair over the eyes and tight t-shirts or sweaters it is impossible to "be" emo since emo is a genre of music you can dress like the members of "emo" and people (like you people) consider you "emo" and make fun of you for the music you like so **** off spatulas

That would surely confuse someone. I would, but when you say revolution summer, what do you mean? Name some bands that started the revolution summer thing. I don't read this thread often, so forgive me if this is a dumb question.
It seems that emo/screamo varies anywhere from music that sounds almost identical to hardcore, to spastic grindish music. It would be hard to designate a certain sound to them.
Revolution summer is the summer of '85 when emo was supposedly started.
Listen to Modern Life is War then Stay Gold. They both sound hella different but people know they're both hardcore bands. It wouldn't be too confusing.
Special Brew
11-10-2005, 04:47 PM
Could you name some of the bands that came out during that time? Back when I first starting learning about emo, I listened to a bunch of the older groups but didn't like it. But I also didn't like traditional hardcore then either, so I may appreciate the older groups more now.
MLIW is a very unique hardcore band though. /irrelevant
