Hey i've seriously read quite a bit into this thread but it's soo long.

I'm into bands like Taking back sunday, Biffy Clyro, Senses Fail etc, but I realise that what i've been listening to, and what i've always thought to be emo...aren't actually emo at all.

I'm really interested to listen to some real emo. music. Can you guys recommend me some good emo and screamo bands in your opinion - aimend mainly at DFellon2044409 and cbmartinez. But really anybody recomends some i'm most grateful.

I've downloaded some circle takes the square, textbook traitors and van johnson, I think they're pretty good. If anyone of these are your favourites please say. If not tell me others.

Cheers, also this is a really intersting thread. Thanks a bunch

Rites of Spring are one of the original great emo bands. My personal favourite. Other users may be able to send you some of their songs (I can't at the moment as my computer is a bit buggered- I'm currently using the PC in my mates house after a jamming session).

DFelon204409

I don't like the old emo as much. To me older emo sounds like an interesting version of old punk. It's a little too sloppy. It doesn't have that killer kick that I think really manifested with Indian Summer for the first time. So on that note I recommend:

Circle Takes the Square
Hot Cross
Kite-Flying Society
Ampere
Belle Epoque
Funeral Diner
You and I
Off Minor

SunnyDayRealEstateAM

1. Emotional hardcore.
2. You probably don't know of many if any if you don't know what it is.
3. A genre started in the mid 80's. It's a branch off of the hardcore genre. Artsy, twinkly guitars, passionate/screaming vocals, bursts of chaos, all that jazz.

The dissonance is just there to be there. I don't see much functionality or emotional purpose to it, which is why I tend to agree with torn that the Gravity bands aren't really emo. But then that's where that screamo word helps out. Makes sense of all the bands that aren't emotional as much as they are chaotic but still obviously fit together with emo bands.

whiteminority
10-11-2005, 02:19 PM
ahhh. yeah I have been wondering if screamo comes from emo doesnt that mean that the bands are still emotional just with a larger focus on chaos, but if that is true why do bands like combatwoundedveteran and usurp synapse get called screamo when they dont show much emotion in their music (at least when i have listened to them)?

ahhh. yeah I have been wondering if screamo comes from emo doesnt that mean that the bands are still emotional just with a larger focus on chaos, but if that is true why do bands like combatwoundedveteran and usurp synapse get called screamo when they dont show much emotion in their music (at least when i have listened to them)?

Screamo is just fast riffs with kids screaming. It isn't like emo. Emo is dead. Screamo is way less extreme emotion-wise. Maybe 'intimate' lyrics, but not the crying etc.

Yeah..Still life is making totally different music then before. And I agree with you that that there aren't many bands that play emo like the bands in the late 80's-mid 90's did but i think Life at These Speeds gets pretty close musically.

which is why I tend to agree with torn that the Gravity bands aren't really emo. But then that's where that screamo word helps out. Makes sense of all the bands that aren't emotional as much as they are chaotic but still obviously fit together with emo bands.

I always call the Gravity bands Hardcore emo (it's stupid..I know...but it's something that stuck after reading fourfa)...I think they are not really emo..but also not really screamo

Hey guys... i've bought Saetia's "A retrospective" a couple weeks ago... And i love it... Now i'm planning to purchase some other albums from similar artist:

1. Hot Cross - Cryonics
Is it a short album? (length-wise) there's only like 10 tracks right?
I know quality > quantity.. I just like to know...
2. CTTS - As The Roots Undo
same question...

If anyone can helps, that would mean a lot, thanks...

Btw, i'm from Indonesia..
In here, well almost everyone has the definition of Emo/Screamo wrong.. (according to this forum)
Once, there's a radio DJ that ask a local band what are they listening to currently.. The band member said Avenged Sevenfold and Bleeding Through, then the DJ said "Oh, you're an emo kid..." I was like "What the hell??"
I think both bands are more like metal/metalcore...

I admit that i used to think that The Used, Dashboard and such is emo..
After reading www.fourfa.com i get confused because the explanation is SO much different... i try to get more information, then i found out what emo/screamo really is.. IMO please don't spam if i'm wrong...

uh oh that would totally suck. the worst thing i have ever done is steal a car, rob a house, pick up a chick, and then run away with the girl and all the stuff to georgia. just transporting stolen goods and grand theft auto are felonies, but my step-mom a cop pulled some strings and got me out of the ensuing rest of my childhood in juvie.

I won't ban you. I'll just let you sit here and feel dumb about how all your posts on the previous page make you both sound 12 years old.

Dude, you don't understand how boring it is when you go to online school. I feel dumb whenever I'm awake. I'm used to it, it doesn't bug me anymore.

Two things that are horribly sad...
1> I read through those last like three pages...
2> I watched Hawthorne Heights last nite on mtv..yea I dunno why, although it did remind me that like six months ago I actually bought there cd, and that's why I am here/ and I like CTTS....listened to it this morning actually.
