I can't believe I'd ever say this, but I like a song by Jerome's Dream.

Thirty Dollar Bill. Whoever it was who said that was a good song by them, you are right. The ending is amazing.

I haven't seen At The Drive-In, Fall Of Troy or Sparta in any of the other forums(i could just be bad at finding things though) and have heard them classed as Emo/screamo. Would this be accurate? I personally hate genre lassification but i'm interested what everyone would class them as and i thought that here would be a good place to ask.

At The Drive-In has some emo influence, more of a post-hardcore/post-punk/indie band though. Sparta is just indie and The Fall Of Troy is just bad.

Indie isn't a genre. Fall of troy are a bit raw though, the production on the albums really doesn't help their case though. Thanks for answering :thumb:

I know the 'indie' genre argument, but if you get rid of it then I dunno what to classify a heck of lot of bands as.

Classify them as alternative.

Beat me too it :thumb: . I've heard oasis and blur classified as indie and they sound nothing like sparta and many others classed as "indie".

Special Brew
09-19-2005, 06:25 PM
Oasis and Sparta are both on big labels, I think, so they can't be indie. Yet many hardcore/emo bands are indie, but if you post about them in the alr/indie forum, you get flamed.

cbmartinez
09-19-2005, 06:27 PM
It has nothing to do with the label. It has to do with the sound. It basically applies to any band doing something that doesn't fit in a genre.

The definition of indie is an artist that works on an independant label, which is where the name 'indie' comes from. It doens't mean indenpendant in the music's sound.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM
09-19-2005, 06:59 PM
Indie is a type of music. An Indie band is another thing. An Indie band is as you said a band on an indie label. The genre is what Cb said.

Don't let it bug you. I get called emo fag all the time, and 'hardcore toughguy' by my closer friends. The only thing is, I actually listen to **** like TBS and The Used, so I probably deserve it. :(

The toughguy thing came from me asking around to see if people wanted to start a hardcore band, so my fag friends decided to start calling me 'kentucky's hardcore toughguy' because I'm the only one around here interested in it, and they judge everything based on stereotypes. It's annoying actually.

People are very aware of my musical perferences and judge them harshly. I went through school with everyone believing I was a satanist because I listened to 'screaming music' and my name is Damien(The Omen, get it? ). No matter how much I told them the truth. I live in Kentucky though, so I guess I shouldn't have expected much intelligence out of a bunch of rednecks. Now that 'screaming music' is popular, everyone always come to me asking about new bands and local shows.

So it all works out eventually.

BUY OUR NEW CD!!!!!!!
It is forged in the skin of dead gods and the womb of a genetically altered
WHOOORE!!!!! This is what you've been ****ing begging for since your first wet,
mewling inception!!!!! I would tell you that its available almost anywhere but
that would be a second-hand deception passed to us and then again to you. It is
your most vigilante duty to scour your dirty, filth-infested hometowns to find
THEMECHANICALHAND. If you cannot find it you will drive or take the bus or run
really fast thru the night to another location and continue to try until you are
rewarded with our warm blessing of sounds of such magnitude that it will be
beyond your silly comprehension. It will be a reward of nothingness!!!!! You
will sit still in a silent room under the power of a spinning cd whose true
majesties you feel not only in your bones but in.. your...veRY.....SOUUUUUULLLLSSS!!!!

Either that or order it online.
To support this feat of the heavens we will embrak (the new way to say embark)
on a GREAT ****ING TOUR GUYS!!!!
Starting lets say........ummmm..... NOVEMBER 1st. Write that one down. This year
is the year that we tour to assasinate all those who emailed us one day after we

and finally nathans little brother is making a video for THE HOUSE OF BOO with
two VCR's and a light brite. It will be on adult swim between episodes of aqua
fag and kamasutra. And if all of this wasn't enough there will be CD RELEASE
SHOWS!!!
Thats right.
The shows will be so intense they will be in all caps. I dont know if any of
your were into us back when r.borlax came out. most of those fans are either
dead or christian now but our CD RELEASE SHOWS hurt kids. They hurt kids real
bad.
Check our shows section or myspace page for a molestation near you.

OH YES!!!! MERRY X-MAS!!!

THIS CHRISTMAS WE WILL BE ON THE TASTE OF CHAOS TOUR CHRISTMAS SAMPLER CALLED
"Taste of Christmas" or somthing equally ridiculous to swindle kids out of thier
money. We get nothing from it so we arent responsible for anything.
like usual.
But there will be a BRAND NEW SONG FROM HORSE THE BAND. That is sure to become
an instant holiday classic. And if HORSE the band says its going to be a holiday
classic then you can already lock yourself in your room because you know your
parents will after you play it on christmas morning and your little sister

I can't get their Myspace to work right. I like some of the 'cliche mtv emo', so I may like them once I hear them. Hopefully I can make it to most of these shows.

Btw, if you ever see a band called Blame It On Rio, son't support them at all. They are a bunch of dicks that need to wreck their van. We got them lost somewhere around London, so I guess it's even now. :p

What's singing in falsetto?

And I love Dallas' solo stuff. Alexisonfire have some really cool songs too.

Falsetto is like... The high girly voice above your normal voice. Hard to explain. And yeah I've heard Dallas's solo stuff, it's amazing but I'm not into acoustic so I got tired pretty fast.

Your mom is a smart woman. I used to listen to a good amount of nu metal when I was younger, but now I only listen to it on rare occasions.

I never really listened to rap. I can't stand it. I have one Eminem album, but that's about it.

For those who don't like rap, check out Aesop Rock, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, and Sage Francis. Especially that last one, that guy made me change my view on rap completely.

I'm sure you could pull it off if you guys can get your parts down. It's going to hardest for whoever is doing vocals.

If we're really going to go there:

De la Soul
Deltron3030
Prefuse73
Heiruspecs
Dr. Octagon
Jedi Mind Tricks
MF Doom
RJD2

Those are all hip hop artists that won't make you lose any cred with your elitist EmoScreamoPunk friends because man oh man you don't want neg comments on your myspace page.

what song are you going to cover? you can pull of the music easily, but the vocals...i dunno. i just don't think emo bands should be covered, because its never the same.

A full legnth for us would be approximately 7 minutes, including when we just leave the tape rolling while plugging **** in 'cause we're cool like that.

Our shows would also be about 10 minutes, including talking to the people, setting up, and me downing a bottle of Merlot before getting started.

It'd be pretty sweet.

Nice dude hahaha.

I find it really sad that people are trying so hard in their serious bands to get signed and tour and our joke bands are getting everything they want without trying.

By the way, icecreamxcore is pretty much broken up. Just felt like telling deadohiosky. We might do a song or two but other than that, we're pretty much done since I quit drinking. :p

bahaha. Hey D, Jerry totally owned you in this Trophy Scars interview:
PAUL: The lyrics are always very detailed and graphic, is this something you spend a lot of time working on?
AJ: No, because I play guitar.
JERRY: I can spend upwards of four months to finish writing lyrics for a song. It's one of the only things I really take seriously (besides baking cakes and playing with Colorforms). I read a lot - maybe too much; I don't know. It's something I can take a certain amount of pride in. I read a recent review that said my lyrics read like Myspace headlines. I proceeded to find the critic's phone number and ask if he has anymore of the drugs he's been smoking because they must be amazing. He was too ****ed up and busy updating his Myspace page to give me a clear answer.

Hahahah that's awesome. Jerry can lick my balls. Then play another amazing live show. My review was overall positive but I was just complaining about little things. I would like to see Jerry call me. I can sell him some of those drugs if he wants. Whatever, I think I write better lyrics than he does.
