Most of you are immature and relatively less intelligent. That wasn't his point though. He was saying it's ridiculous to get into meeting bands as if they were celebrities when they are more humble and reserved than any of the fans. Hardcore should have a community mentality, and the band members are not meant to be huge icons. Just dudes tearing it up.

Dude you are the one who in is immature when you have to say that we (15, 16 yr olds) are immature and less intelligent. Most people actually into hardcore treat it as a community mentality rather than the god among men status rampant in the other forms of music. Stop downing all of us you arn't making anyone more hardcore or emo or whatever by calling us stupid.

Tornpictures is prejudiced. When i first got into hardcore i didn't go round thinking i was the **** and that there was no difference between the hardcore scene and other music scenes. I listened to those whose views i respected and learnt about hardcore from them. The majority of us, i think, did the same.

What the **** is this thread about? Emo/Screamo, right? Plus it says Community Thread so I think we should act like a ****ing mob of people who like emo/screamo and act like a community. You know what's immature? Ripping our own selves apart in this thread like whiny kids. Yeah, I get pissed off too when reading torn's posts because I don't like his way of speaking at all I'm no better or worst than any of you. But heck, why don't we all cool off.

Acting as a community doesn't mean bashing other communities, however. So why the **** don't we act like a community ourselves? Stronger emo/screamo MX community means more harmony, means patience with emo ignorants, means more people actually interested in this thread, means stronger emo/screamo community and it starts over again. Get it?

You realize what just happened right?

Me: [comment and then explanation about why I think you are immature or relatively less intelligent]
You: No you are immature when you say I'm immature and less intelligent.

Can you see how that is not an argument. It's like "What you say is what you are" or "I am rubber and you are glue..." or some other elementary school comeback. Nobody was getting on anybody's case about being younger, only that you are immature, irregardless of your age. End of argument. Let us talk about Funeral Diner. They are cool.

Give me an example of how I am less intelligent, please.

DFelon204409
08-11-2005, 08:39 PM
I said relatively less intelligent for a reason. You are of normal intelligence but compared to people who are older and more expreienced in the ways of the world than you, you appear less intelligent. The word "relatively" is a qualifier for you intelligence. But, if you insist on a specific example, I'll have to say completely misunderstanding what tornpictures was saying and pursuing this argument with me. Those are two good examples I think.

Hahahahhaha. Again you missed the point. Do you fail to see that you kids are the elitists by ruling out everyone who listens to pop-emo?

And I'm not prejudiced, I'm just generalizing. Most of the kids I see here (of your age) are stupid ignorant kids who do nothing else but bag on other people because they listen to music they stopped listening to. My dark musical past? You want to know what I used to listen to? I listened to nu-metal and punk and a little hardcore up until about 8th grade when I discovered Norma Jean. I still listen to pop-emo or fake-emo (dashboard and older tbs) and "fashioncore" bleeding through, every time i die, old atreyu, and old eighteen visions. In honesty I didn't discover real emo or screamo until about 7 months ago through Saetia, Orchid, and City of Caterpillar. When I listened to dashboard and tbs I never thought of them as emo because I had known that the definition was emotional hardcore and neither of these bands are or were hardcore. I rule out people who come in and tell me that the music I primarily listen to isn't something more past the pop-emo stuff (as in "HAwthorne Heights are the only real emo band".) If someone comes in to the forums and asks about good emo bands saying they like such and such pop-emo band I will tell them some good bands but with the warning it sounds nothing like the stuff their used to.

And I am into hardcore for the music most definately because it wasn't for some popularity statement because until 9th grade I was the only person in the Clemson, South Carolina area into anything besides straight pop-music who liked anything besides nu-metal and marilyn manson.

(I'm in 10th grade now by the way.)

Wow, you're pretty intelligent for a tenth grader, I always pictured you as someone much older. I guess it proves, it doesn't matter how long you've been alive - what matters is the amount of knowledge you've gained while you've been here. I don't think that it matters how you got into the music, as long as you're listening to it now. I too, started with nu-metal/punk which branched me into hardcore, then post-hardcore, then emo. I also listen to the pop-emo/fake-emo stuff aswell.

This arguement seems pretty retarded. We just argueing over someone being less intelligent because they're younger? In some cases, it's true. I believe that age doesn't matter anymore though.

Emotional Hardcore, Emo for short, is a genre started in 1985 by bands like Rites of Spring and Moss Icon who took the basic foundations of hardcore and added in artsy guitar lines, poetic lyrics, and passionate vocals. Over time, emo has evolved into a few different styles. There's traditional emo (Moss Icon, Driftwood), hardcore emo (Reach Out, Heroin), mid-west indie influenced (Rockets and Blue Lights, Nuzzle), and screamo (You and I, Usurp Synapse). Although it HAS evolved, absolutley none of the mainstream bands like Hawthorne Heights and Thursday are emo or an evolution of emo. Most, if not all of those bands are either Pop-Punk or Post-Hardcore. The decision to call bands like alexisonfire screamo was arbitrary and mis-informed. Don't be fooled by what the media tells you.

Due to the nature of its bands, emo is not very well known to the public. Most emo bands had very short lives and some of them never released an actual record (only demos and such). This made it impossible for some bands to gain a vast reputation while they were still active. This is not true for all bands though, as there are a few successful acts in the emo genre which are still active and vastly known by the emo "community", Circle Takes The Square and Hot Cross being very good examples.

The emo musical genre has NOTHING to do with the emo "slice-my-wrists" culture. Emo, musically speaking, is not about cutting your wrists, cutting your hair so it covers 50% of your face, wearing girl pants when you're a male, putting mascara all over your eyes, etc. Emo is about making hardcore music in an artsy/poetic way to focus on a varied specter of emotions. Yes, most music is about emotion. However, emo is hardcore-derived; while hardcore focuses on feelings of rage and alienation through a political struggle, emo is generally more introspective.

(Insert examples of emo bands here)

Written by Wow and me. DFelon would probably direct you to Wikipedia's definition but it's epic-length and I'm pretty sure most people won't bother reading it all.

Good spelling though. Also Pat, it's 'your' since it is my book, representing ownership.

Now we need to get a mod to put it on the definition page, where it belongs

Shut up. I talked to this guy online who grew up with the emo scene in DC while living in LA from 85-Present. He has written most of the wikipedia emo site, which is pretty informative once I convinced him to make a popcore page to split out all the stuff that we both agreed didn't belong but he had been previously too lazy to fix. Anyway. I'm going to combine his 1ups, and many others to get a really good history when my work ends this Friday.

Too bad that both articles seem to be up for deletion/alteration. They are a great read, and especially the emo-article is educational. (Blows fourfa.com out of the water IMO. People should stop tossing it around, chose this instead)

Seems that quite a lot of people think both articles ar not neutral enough (and the folks at Wiki seem quite anal about that)

Well I guess that was bad that Embrace was not mentioned, but I bought a book called "American Hardcore: A Tribal History" (coverage of american HC from 80-86) and his coverage of the DC scene barely touched upon emotion hardcore and mentioned off-handedly. Even worse in the entire coverage of NYHC Gorilla Biscuits didn't get mentioned until the last page of the 20+pg chapter and it was only a sentence.

Really bad book. Focuses way too much on certain scenes (aka the moshers) and the dude's writing style is wayyy childish.

'Emo' is still hardcore and people tend to forget this alot.
Anyway, the bands you mentioned as examples aren't really appropriate as Driftwood are quite obscure and only had one 7". Moss Icon are a good one, although they were still slightly unevolved. Indian Summer or something would be more appropriate.
'Hardcore emo?!' Who the **** came up with that? Very silly.

The whole mid-west thing- Rockets and Bluelights are a relatively new band so they don't really fit in the list that well. Nuzzle sound nothing like those bands.. more in line with Swing Kids and other San Diego stuff.

The real reason bands didn't get too well-known: they didn't tour alot. Just think of bands like Breakwater, September, Driftwood, Fieldtree, Mainspring. Have a couple records out but aren't that well-known as, say Indian Summer.
Emo dhardly still exists, it's a wave that came and went really. Just a couple bands left like Die Emperor, Toru Okada etc.

Yeah well I did my best when writing that definiton (Wow wrote the first paragraph, though) There is really no scene where I live (Quebec, Canada) So honestly everything I've written are things I summarized from what I see on this thread and a little bit over the internet. In short, I don't know **** about what the hardcore scene is like, and it kills me.

I'm still pretty much uneducated about the historical evolution of hardcore/emo, I started being interested in the genre about 6 months ago. I have a LOT to learn. :upset:

Anodyne is the band you're thinking of D. They're on LP but they're more of a metal band.

Alone Records released some of their stuff too.
And they're not ON any label, they're a DIY hardcore band, not some corporate piece of ****.

Lazybassplr56
08-19-2005, 06:46 PM
well you tried it just for once found it all right for kicks.
but now you found out that it's a habit that sticks.
and you're an orgasm addict.
you're an orgasm addict.
sneaking in the back door with dirty magazines.
now your mother wants to know what all those stains on your jeans.
and you're an orgasm addict.
you're an orgasm addict.
uh huh, uh huh, uhhhhh, uhhhhh [x3]
you get in a heat, you get in a sulk.
but you still keep a beating your meat to pulp.
and you're an orgasm addict.
you're an orgasm addict.
you're a kid cassanova.
you're a no-josep it's a labour of love ****ing yourself to death.
orgasm addict.
you're an orgasm addict.
uh huh, uhhhhh [x10] you're makin' out with school kids, winos and heads of state.
you even made it with the lady, who puts the little plastic bobins on the christmas cakes.
butchers' assistants and bellhops, you've had them all here and there.
children of god and their joy-strings, international women with no body hair.
oooh, so where they're askin' in an alley and your voice ain't steady.
if your sex mechanic's rough you're more than ready.
you're an orgasm addict.
you're an orgasm addict.
johnny want ****ie always and all ways.
he's got the energy, he will remain.
he's an orgasm addict.
he's an orgasm addict.
he's always at it.
he's always at it.
and he's an orgasm addict.
he's an orgasm addict

Nymphomaniac = female sex lover/addict
Satyrimaniac = male sex lover/addict

Get your etymology straight boy. What would Billy say. He'd call you an uber hax n00b for not remembering your latin/greek roots.
