It's interesting. So many different versions though. They are provide different interpretaions too. Some keep the poetic aspect completely intact, others make it more accessible to the average person. Make sure you find a good one.

Ya I got into like the best school in the district with a 2.9 GPA and I'm taking A.P. English even though I got B's and C's in it all through out Middle School. I wanted to transfer out of the school but my mom talked to the counselor and she told my mom that I'm lucky I got in and kids with a 3.5 GPA got rejected, and I don't live in the school area.

Okay the second somebody mentioned the new Harry Potter ending I jumped to the end of this page to post without reading the posts before me. I refuse to have this ruined for me. I've been trying to savor this book more since last time I read Order of the Pheonix in one day and now I can hardly remember it. Ya, so shut up. The best books are...
The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis
Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind
troof
I need to read Pale Fire by Nabakov. I've been putting that off for a year now but I'm really intrigued.

HOT CROSS NEWSLETTER 7/25/05
Body: Hey Everyone -
It has been a busy summer for us even though everything we are doing is kinda behind the scenes. The songwriting process is going really well and we are all exicted with the new matieral.. When we have actually booked the time with him, and everyhting is confirmed you guys will be the first to know.

I just finished my second year at University of Southern California.
I was being sarcastic because Connor is 12 or something. I have some friends who go to USC. The four of them are this band called Jubala. They have some good elements and some sucky ones. The lead guitarist is a sick guitarist and I played with him in the jazz band in high school. The drummer is good too and listens to lots of cheesy prog. The other instrumentalists are good but don't stand out. I think what cripples them is that they don't listen to very interesting music. They are nice, normal kids, not weirdos who frequent online emo forums, so they like Sublime, RHCP, Incubus, etc. I managed to get them to listen to a bit of Thrice and even Dillinger Escape Plan at one point but they're into their own modern rock that's sort of interesting thing. Their one song "Aphrodisiac" is one of my favorite all time songs. It just does a good job of mood and the end solo is really amazing. www.purevolume.com/jubala or maybe www.purevolume.com/jubalamusic Maybe catch a show. They're fun but I guess I'm biased because I know all of them.

for years i have been listening to my music on $20 computer speakers and an old bookshelf cd player that i don't even have the remote for, so i decided to upgrade my audio setup. just finished ordering the stuff off the internet. i can't wait.
i'll now have a turtlebeach montego soundcard. that will encode all pc audio (most importantly music) to a dolby digital signal on the fly. that will then be transmitted to an onkyo 503 surround reciever via a digital optical connection. the onkyo reciever will feed athena point 5 mkII surround speakers(4 satellite speakers and a center), which won the "sound and vision reviewers choice awards", whatever the hell that is. i'm just assuming that means they're really good. in addition to the athenas, i ordered a dayton 12" 150 watt sub to complete the 5.1 system. to replace the cd player, i ordered a panasonic 5 disc dvd/cd changer with a bunch of cool features like improving the audio quality of mp3s. that'll connect to the onkyo through a coaxial digital connection so i can switch over from computer audio to cd audio with a remote.
but maybe the coolest thing i ordered is the dolby digital 6 speaker surround headphones that i can connect to either the soundcard or reciever via digital optical connection for dolby digital surround when its late and i dont' want to wake anybody up.
i'm just really excited and wanted to share, lol.

Call to all user of this thread.
I had this idea to write an introduction to emo, with all you guys' help, in the form of a text. Kids who talk about the Used, Dashboard Confessional etc labelling them as "emo" piss me off and I can't bear it no more. And I can't point them to fourfa.com, it's too long of a read.
Basically, give a detailed definition of emo, including historical points, founding bands, etc... Everyone could give a few characteristics of the genre or a point to specify and we could sum it all in one text I'd carry in my pocket to educate ignorants. Of course we could post it right here and make it a reference for the emo genre, something solid enough to educate people and point them in the right directions but not dictionary-length.
I usually start arguments about emo by pointing out that emo means "emotional hardcore", the hardcore point being very important, because all bands falsely labelled as "emo" are usually very mainstream and contain no elements of hardcore.
Then, I specify that the bands labelled as "emo" in the mainstream are classified as such because they associate with the emo "slice-your-wrists" culture and "style", which has pretty much nothing to do with the actual musical genre.
I'll think of more later. Fire away, please.
Emotional Hardcore, Emo for short, is a genre started in 1985 by bands like Rites of Spring and Moss Icon who took the basic foundations of hardcore and added in artsy guitar lines, poetic lyrics, and passionate vocals. Over time, emo has evolved into a few different styles. There's traditional emo (Moss Icon, Driftwood), hardcore emo (Reach Out, Heroin), mid-west indie influenced (Rockets and Blue Lights, Nuzzle), and screamo (You and I, Usurp Synapse). Although it HAS evolved, absolutley none of the mainstream bands like Hawthorne Heights and Thursday are emo or an evolution of emo. Most, if not all of those bands are either Pop-Punk or Post-Hardcore. The decision to call bands like alexisonfire screamo was arbitrary and mis-informed. Don't be fooled by what the media tells you.
Or something.

Due to the nature of its bands, emo is not very well known to the public. Most emo bands had very short lives and some of them never released an actual record (only demos and such). This made it impossible for some bands to gain a vast reputation while they were still active. This is not true for all bands though, as there are a few successful acts in the emo genre which are still active and vastly known by the emo "community", Circle Takes The Square and Hot Cross being very good examples.
The emo musical genre has NOTHING to do with the emo "slice-my-wrists" culture. Emo, musically speaking, is not about cutting your wrists, cutting your hair so it covers 50% of your face, wearing girl pants when you're a male, putting mascara all over your eyes, etc. Emo is about making hardcore music in an artsy/poetic way to focus on a varied specter of emotions. Yes, most music is about emotion... but emo is hardcore-derived; while hardcore focuses on feelings of rage and alienation through a political struggle, emo is generally more introspective.
I'm stretching it too much, I'll summarize this. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong somewhere.
I like. Keep it how it is.

You guys lets stop this. Go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo
Their definitions and examples for early emo are absolutely superb. Unfortunately there's a breakdown when they go into the modern conception of fake emo. I've already commented in the discussion section about the need to separate the two. I recommend you all check out the site. I've been working on my own emo update in terms of the scenes and chronology. So, once I've finished that by the end of August, you guys can all use that to write up the final definition. The reason progress on my part is slow is that I have been working like I'm freaking picking cotton at this investment job because I want to prove myself. Anyway, if you wanna draft some stuff, do it by IM or email. Then send me a final version. Don't gunk up this thread.

Ummm I read about Finch, and they said that they were not going to make the same record, and were naming their working title songs "Mars Volta ripoff" or "Snapcase ripoff" so I thought they were going to take their good sense of melody and put that over more interesting music, but I was wrong. It just sucked. New Underoath is still going to be new Underoath, just they think they'll be getting more cred like old Underoath by turning up the drive.

I wish Underoath would go back to their old stuff.

That would require all the old members or time travel, both of which are impossible.

Well they could at least try to emulate it. I lost all respect for them when I saw them and 70% of the crowd there for them were 12 year old girls who left after Reinventing Your Exit.
I was hanging out with a girl and she was like "Do you like Underoath?" and I said I dug some of their stuff but wasn't too into most of it. And she was like "Man, Re-inventing Your Exit is the best song ever." She didn't know of any of the old stuff or that it even existed. I wanted to throw her from a second story window (lololol).

Hahaha. Throwing her from a second story window might make her commit an act of depression.
