I'm doing okay. I have to leave for a lecture in a minute, and then I have to go home for the weekend. I really don't want to (had a really crap week as far as school goes and I could really use the weekend to catch up) but I've got accomodation papers that need to be taken home and signed and stuff :(

Well, I had to hand in an assignment in school, and it seemed like a waste to go all the way in town, and going straight back home. So we went to a big store. I don't know if you have them in England, it seems to be pretty European continental. Media Markt it is called.

Well, I've only had the guy for a couple weeks, but he does a rather good job of self-pwning. On accident, of course.
Here's an example from Wednesday. We were talking about current events in education, and we were talking about how there was another student/teacher sex scandal here in the US.
Synopsis of the prof: he looks like Tony Wilbon from PTI but talks like Major Payne.
My prof: You know, this is one thing I don't understand. With in loco parentis, you have a very unique bond with your students as a teacher. I don't understand why teachers break this bond. I also don't understand why teachers would want to have sex with their students. I'm going to have to investigate this farther.
Class's reaction:
My prof [thinks about what he just said, then the light bulb comes on]: Awwww, hell naw! NOT like that!
Laughter ensues from both class and prof.
It's probably one of those instances where you have to be there to find it funny, I guess :\

What is your education class though? As in preperation for teaching?
Education is basically an introduction to pedagogy and other things. Part of our class is interviewing a teacher and asking him/her pre-determined questions about teaching. Also, we have to lesson plan, give presentations, and teach the class something for eight to ten minutes. I would do calculus because that'd be real easy, just practice problems... but my major isn't math :(
Our text deals with becoming a teacher, student diversity, teacher effectiveness, schools (broad topic), life in schools, what students are taught in schools, standards/testing/the controversy of who controls the curriculum, the history of American education, financing and governing schools, philosophy of education, school law and ethics, the struggle for education and opportunity, technology in education, and other things like how to lesson plan (what I have to do this weekend... it's more extensive than I ever imagined).
Diversity in education is a more specific class when it comes to, well, diversity. We go over foundations for multicultural teaching and putting those methods into action, culture and the culture-learning process, classrooms and schools as cultural crossroads, the classroom as a global community, creating classrooms that address race and ethnicity, religious pluralism in secular classrooms, practicing tolerance of gender and sexual orientation (and the differences that are found within), understanding the different social classes and how they impact the classroom, and developing multicultural-aware language and learning styles.
Basically, the mandates of American schooling have evolved over the centuries.
For example, the 20th century mandate was technology in education. This century, it's obviously multiculturalism and diversity in education.
Both classes are required in order to get accepted into the school of education... hope that was clear, albeit extensive :)

Words...lots of words
Yeah, that makes sense, sounds very time consuming though. What are you planning on teaching/what is your major?
Hahaha, nice summarization of quoting me
It's true, though.
I want to teach high school. I'm a group social studies major, so this means that I'm more accessible coming out of college. That means, depending on what my emphasis is (or, more realistically, what schools need), I can teach economics, political science, psychology, geography, history, etc.
I was originally a history major, but I was informed that history majors that become teachers are a dime a dozen and not as sought after.

Ah, very cool...I could never teach high school heh, but good luck with that anyways. It seems like you're pretty focused though, so it sounds great, are you going to be out of school in four years, or is it a longer degree?
Haha, well, dreams of being a pro athlete and/or rock star died out when reality set in. Besides, I suck at guitar and piano/keyboard :p
From what I understand, it's supposed to be at most a five-year program, but at least four. It depends on when you get accepted to the College of Education and do your student teaching.
Thanks for the support, though :)
What are your future endeavors shaping out to be?

Ah see, I never dreamed of being a pro-athlete because I suck at sports, but I intend on being a roc...nah, I am actually looking to become a sound engineer, so I'll be minoring in music, and majoring in Electrical Engineering. The nice thing about it is that if I end up not liking my job, EE still has tons of career options and is a very flexible and desireable degree. It should be a 4 year program and then 1-3 years at grad school depending on the program I apply to and the depth of it.
I'm curious though, what are you majoring in now if you aren't in the College of Education? Which school are you in?

See, that sounds really awesome. If you toured with a band and all that, you could see the world and be surrounded by music daily. I would suck at engineering, though. After Calc II, I never had to take math again... and I suck at constructing **** and I'd probably put the wires in the wrong place.
I probably should have clarified the College of Education bit.
There are five classes you need to take with grades no lower than a B- in them:
Education 200: Intro to Education
Computer Science 205: Computers in Education
Education 225: Diversity in Education
Psychology 101: Introduction to Psychology
Psychology 325: Developmental Psychology
After you have these classes completed with at least a 2.8 GPA in your other coursework, you can apply for the College of Education.
From there, you take more education classes while taking classes in both your major and minor, and then make your way into teacher assisting, then making your way into full-blown student teaching.
I hope that made more sense, sorry about the confusion.
EDIT: a quick clarification bit: the reason why you have to have those five classes is because they give you the biggest feel on whether or not you want to be a teacher. A lot of people drop out after taking 200 because it seems intimidating. I admit to being shell-shocked, but it's something I really want to do because I want to be able to coach as well at my school. The education profs keep stressing that teaching, much like the Internet, is serious business, so basically 200 and the other classes "weed out the weak," in a sense.

Yeah, it seems like a really nice job and I think I would really enjoy it, but if I don't I'll still have other uses for my degree which is great.
Ah see, here you apply to the College of Education from the start, and that's where your major is based. Seems fairly easy to get in though, so seems like a good deal. I have to keep a 3.4 to stay enrolled here :(
That program seems really career centered, which is great if you know that is definitely what you want to do it will give you a good boost once you apply for employment.
EDIT: That makes sense, curriculum seems to weed out half the engineers haha. Half of our class dropped out of Physics first semester and another half of that didn't take it second semester.

At least you have a fallback plan in your arsenal, too.
A 3.4 seems a bit steep, but hopefully it isn't too bad. All I know is that it was a hell of a lot easier to keep a 3.4 in high school than it is in college :(

Theres no real point to drugs, I understand why people do pot, but shrooms is retarded.
I don't see why doing weed is retarted, unless you're really anti-drug. Hell, caffeine is worse on your body than weed.

meh, drugs just **** up your ability to play your instrument. That's why I don't do them.
Your kidding right?
Have you ever played guitar while you were stoned? It's so much more fun, and then you end up just playing it for hours without even noticing anything else, you pretty much become the music, and it becomes an experience that you didn't have before, when people are sober, they have a tendency to try to play so formulated and so tensed, but when you're high, you just let it flow.
Moe., Keller, Phish, and The Grateful Dead all played on so many drugs.
Listen to their music, and try to say their ability to play and isntrument is impared while keeping a straight face.
