I don't think volume was his chief concern.

I try to keep up in there, but theres usually bands i dont know about you guys talk about, so i dont make any spam or random remarks and let you guys go.

And the Classic Rock thread lacks what this thread has...post that require no thought once-so-ever. Possibly the whole reason this thread is so successful

But i love the clissic rock thread. I wouldnt of ever been a user here if it werent for that thread

That's subjective to taste I think. It certainly is a good tread, a hive of information, with alot of great posters who know their stuff. But if you're not really interested in classic rock then it won't be of great importance.

The Classic Rock Thread will never be anything more to the R&M forum than the death heads thread; a fantastic font of knowledge about it's main subject, and a great discussion place for it's already knowledgeable users, but never the heart.

This thread will never be the heart either, though.

Nothing...my roommate keeps trying to get me to watch the Butterfly Effect. I'm very resistant to the idea. Any movie that rips off the plot of the Time Machine and stars Ashton Kutcher at the same time can't possibly be as good as he says it is, is my logic. However, I'm wondering if maybe he's right and I'm wrong. Anybody seen the movie that can tell me?

Hello there. I haven't seen much of you since the inception of sputnik, I think.

Hey Bartender :)

Yeah, I haven't visited Sputnik since January, sadly. College is bogging me down so I haven't been able to review anything, so I basically just stay in The Pit and pretend to be one of the more intelligent posters there. It helps when R&M lurkers come out of the woodwork to put people in their places, though, so it's all good.

Besides, I have two albums in queue, but they're not going to be released until April.

I really do like the new site, though.

EDIT: your response to the "Rep party?" question should have been at least size 300.

I didn't want this to turn into a rep whoring thread all of a sudden, I assure you :\

I just wanted to show the "jolly ol group" my biggest reason for coming back

Below each MXican's avatar is a box with a check/X combination.

If you wish to tell the MXican whom you wish to rep positively that you liked his/her post, agreed with it, or whatever reasoning you may have, check that box, hit the "I approve" button, and type an optional message.

The same applies for a neg, just hit "I disapprove" and type an optional message.

Jom

And leave us forever? No!

It has happened.

Haha, no, of course not.

For example, suppose an idiot poster goes on a tirade where he instantly becomes one-dimensional and refuses to see other posters' viewpoints and doesn't respect their opinions.

That's when an R&M regular makes his/her appearance, bashes the kid, and negs him for 100-odd points. The idiot sees this and stops bitching; then, he makes a thread where he lists all the people he ates or goes on another tirade about how he got unjustifiably negged (which isn't true, obviously). This thread then gets closed by a mod. Since it's closed, he opens another thread, and gets consequently banned.

It's a vicious cycle of idiocy that happens far too often in The Pit.

Anyways, the R&M regulars come back "home" and chill here and continue to be sweet. They like the comforts here

I think Sputnik is set up well, I know Med, Iai, and a couple others really wanted to break down the genres even more so than they are, but it's very accessible and user-friendly... I think the five main categories are divided up fairly; but again, the subgenres might need some tweaking. I'm a bit lax when it comes to things like that, but I know Med and Iai would appreciate (are appreciating? I haven't checked back recently) it. I also like the main page.

It took a bit of time to learn all the quirks that came with it (adding reviews, changing reviews to the new format, something that I should get around to doing since I've only done it for some of my reviews, etc.), but it seems like it's running a bit more smoothly.

There are also a few peculiarities: for instance, splashfreak wrote a new Alter Bridge review that he attempted to make less biased based on how the previous one led to 520 posts of defense against flames, yet in the transfer to the new site the new review retained all of the old responses from MX. I would have liked to see new responses, but now I have to scroll forward through the 38 pages of convo we've got to see any, if they occur.

We should make a list!

Oh, man, guitar stores are really annoying. There's always a million dumbasses that don't understand that volume equals noise and feedback. The worst, though, had to be this kid that was plinking the riff to "Killing In the Name" over and over and over, with a semi-distorted dirty tone at a really high volume, with a ****ty guitar and a crate amp. I hate that! It was literally the only thing he knew how to play, and I'd pity him if it weren't so irritating.

Guitar girlfriends are funny, too. The bored female companion who couldn't give a **** that her boyfriend is shredding all over the place.

Learn some Gilmour Solos Eitri ;)

I've looked at 'em. They're way beyond someone who hasn't been playing for even a month.. On the subject of Gilmour, my dad has a solo album of his. Its on vinyl, worth a listen? I forget the title.. Too lazy to look.

lol, I saw some kid with his girlfriend playing one of those Tom Delonge strats, plinking away with that punk progression that all those bands use (D-A-B-G, etc.) on a clean amp setting, and she was oggling him. She was hot, too. I wanted to ask for the guitar and play something complicated and then complain that the guitar sucked. It probably would have backfired on me with the girl, but it may have been worth it if I managed to bruise the guy's ego a little. I decided not to though, since it would have been real concieted.

The only thing worse than a girl that thinks that the boy is a god for playing Blink-182 is if the boy himself thinks he's a god because he can. It's actually pretty depressing when I'm playing guitar at a party and someone asks me for it and plays the one song he knows, looking around desperately at the girls around him...hoping...

Adam's song is pretty easy, much more fun to play Stay Together for the kids, it's actually really good for developing alternate selective picking.

I've never ever been able to nail Thunderstruck. It's so weird...you just have those stumbling blocks that you theoretically should be able to play, but can't. Like I can do your Joe Satriani legato run ripping down the neck no problem, but not that little triad ditty. Very strange. I guess my muscle memory is just set in a way that makes that more difficult for me.

No matter how much I try to force it on myself, there seems to be some subconscious quirk running in my mind that refuses to use the pinky when playing. It hinders me quite badly. I don't have a problem if I purposely think to use it, but If I'm randomyl playing I default to my ring finger and it fouls things up many times.

I can't pick it, but I can play it well legato. The trick is muting every other string with your right hand to make it really clear. It sounds so cool :)
