Have you ever listened to old country (aka "real" country) with like banjos and that sort of thing? It's actually very good, but the stuff you hear on the radio is just a lame ripoff and basically pop with a specific vocal style.

Eh, it's indirect then...
ZZ Top, Zeppelin, Hendrix are all bluesy influnces, otherwise it's stuff like Pink Floyd, The Who, that sort of stuff...too lazy to list em all though heh. But the more you listen to, the more you have to draw from. But my improv and soloing is all very blues based.

Same goes for me drum-wise. Most people I see taking lessons just go in a room for 30 minutes trying to learn some song or something. My teacher did it way differen't.
Everyday for something like 6 months he'd tell me to play some random beat. I sucked at this at first, but I got good at it after awhile. Then everyday He'd write down the random beat I' play, and then say to play it 3 times and to make a fill out of no where. I do this myself now. Just sit down and play 3 bars then fill and see if I like it. I think that method is the best way to learn improvisation. I stuck with my teacher for 5 years now. I've only learned one song, everything else wasa just technique lessons to be thrown into stuff I improvise day to day.
Learning songs is great and all, but being able to sit down and play something out of the blue that sounds great is just awesome.

RYM takes a while to really set up; it's not just a copy-paste list kind of thing. Once you have all your albums noted though, there's loads of cool little features you can make use of, aside from keeping track of your albums.

I even added all the release dates to the album a few days ago to, so i can list them in order they came out, as well as legnth, album title, song title, band name, days i downloaded them, and something else i forget. Its Just easier on my day

I have iTunes and I found this really cool thing that allows you to export your album list to html.. It doesn't put just the artist and album though, it puts absolutely everything you have entered about the CD. You have limited arrangement options but it's pretty cool.
I think I will do the Rate Your Music thing anyway, just as another option. It has some pretty cool features besides just listing your CD's.

All the ratings on RYM are weighted, so it doesn't matter if you try to rate 'objectively' (like the little music scholars we all like to think we are) or just rate all your favourite albums 5/5 without much thought.

I just think the Rating system is a little too general. Or I'm to picky between a 4.5 and a 5.
I'm usually really unconcerned and easy for 0-4 marks. I try to be a bit more discerning for above that though (less so on RYM, but when I reviewed here on MX, I'd not be too bothered by what I gave below 4, and then be really structured and harsh with myself on anything above 4 :-/).
Buy Now...Saved Later is a good album, never seen them mentioned around here.
It is a pretty good album, yeah. I don't trust myself to rate it "properly" though, since it was one of the first few dozen or so albums I bought, so I find it hard to distinguish between it actually being good, and my just having good memories of it.
My actual copy of that album is scratched to hell, though, so I haven't been able to listen to it in ages.

Eh, I never looked at that part of the site to be honest, but when I did start using it I figured I ought to contribute some albums there in return :)

The system doesn't always work.
You would think that if they put a sticky on the rules thread, and had people cram the rules down someone's throat if they broke one, that people would start reading the rules, but people still ignore them :(.

Scotland won the first half, were drawing in the second and France scored a try by blocking a kick in the dying minutes of the game, thus giving them the win.

It is similar to American football, just most noticeably(in the words of many (British) comedians) without the masses of protective armour and stopping for a rest every twenty seconds.

Yet in rugby do they don't to wear the heavy "protective armor," which would make it in that theory, less physically exerting, wouldn't it?

Yeah, hence the lack of resting all the time. American footballers still wear masses of armour where rugby players don't, which was the main point :)

Well of course I expected them to lose...
but I was told they'd won. Which of course came as something of a shock to me.

Screw the Eagles, their fans act like they're such underdogs, but look at me and the other Giants fans.... seriously, oh noes! teh Eagles at least do consistantly well instead of like 3 years of ownage and then 5 years of horrible upsets.

Basically Rugby players are harder than [American-]football players is I think the point they're getting at.
Though obviously footballers look better - less broken noses etc.
