I started with Tool and stuck with that for a long time until I found late In Flames and gradually moved around from there. I got into metalcore mostly until Subtle Dagger helped me find DEP then I went to Between the Buried and Me. Then there was Opeth. Beautiful Opeth. It's an amazing gateway band. That really is what got me into Melodic Death. Then Death metal just kind of followed suit. Symphonic black metal has always sort of been there since I found Arcturus. I just recently got into the really brutal stuff and enjoying it. Basically if it's different than most other music, I like it.

Ramsey you have such sexy death metal taste. :-*
lolz :-* Yeah, I know. Just thought I'd point it out :)

Good list by the way, though it looks like you should definitely check out Arghoslent. They'd be at the top of my melodic death recommendations.
I've heard you reccomend it a ton of times...but I never bothered to check it out. Thats mainly because I'm afraid of it sounding like Dissection (which I hated, but everyone kept reccomending it) and I'm afraid of the recording quality, which usually turns me off alot of metal. (I.E. Black metal mainly)

I will do though, sir. And thank you btw. :)

Melodic death that also rules -

Eternal Tears Of Sorrow
Suidakra
Hypocrisy (newer Hypocrisy, older is just plain death metal though)
Amon Amarth
Arsis
Carcass (heartwork era)
Omnium Gatherum

Then i got introduced to maiden when i picked up one their cd's, and my love for real rock and metal blossomed. Next was my obsession with RATM for a while, and then all the good bands came at once. Pro-Pain, Aveneged Sevenfold (dont kick me, I like them) Soundgarden and G'n'r. Then came my punk phase (which im still in) with 88 Fingers Louie, Agnostic Front and Bad Brains. Then came my interest in the UK Ska Scene, with band such as the filaments, capdown, the foamers, freaks union (more punk than ska), bosseye and some american bases ska. Now im getting heavily into power metal, my faves being DragonForce, Children Of Bodom, Iced Earth and, what i thought was power, Opeth. And thats where i am now. Wow...it was alot different for me.

My first metal band (I use the term "metal" very loosley, granted I was 13 at the time) was Limp Bizkit. Yeah. :(

From there I got into Nirvana, after hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit, and then onto RATM and Korn. From there I got into Slipknot, and then Pantera and Metallica. I then got into Metalcore like Killswitch, Shadows Fall, and Chimaira, as a result of the Ozzfest at the time (which I used as a refrence to get into new bands) Around that time, I registered here, and its opened a new gatway of music for me, and now I listen to tons of Power Metal, Death, Black and Thrash,.

Around the same time I got into Cradle I got into Nightwish, which turned me on to power and more gothicy stuff.

God damn, Darkthrone rules in my humble opinion.

Any who, I started out with bands like Green Day and pop punkish bands, then proceeded into the nu-metal world when I heard Korn...

Stayed in that stage for a good 2 years till I heard In Flames and Cradle Of Filth which propelled my interests into the extreme metal scene such as death and black metal. Been listening to "real" metal for a good 2-3 years now and loving every bit of it heh.

So now I am into bands like Arcturus, Death, Dream Theater, Darkthrone, Arsis, Vintersorg and so on and on. What a change from starting out with pop punk...

I started with System of a Down back in the day. From them I listened to a little Metallica. I somehow stumbled upon Helloween, I liked them but didnt listen to them often. Then took up guitar and started to lurk around the, so I got into some of the bands here. When I started posting months ago, I started to get into more Power Metal (Bodom, Blind Guardian, Dragonforce), and some lighter Death Metal (Dark Tranquility, In Flames). I still have to take the next step into the extreme of the extreme.

My life with listening to music.

Up until I was ten years old, I listened to nothing but classical, and all the stuff my parents listened to (50s-60s pop, Boston, Kenny G) and mellow, easy listening stuff like that.
Then my friends are like "lol, listen to the radio, hahaha, yeah" and I was like " k k k"

Then, I listened to pop. When I was eleven, Hybrid Theory came out, and I can honestly say that I would be no where without Linkin Park. From there, I was listening to nu-metal galore. Lots of System of a Down, Disturbed, etc. All throughout until I was about 12-13.
When I was in 8th grade (13 years old), something magical happened that changed my listening style. I was reading a St. Anger review on how bad it was, and this guy (he was about 45 years old, so I trusted him with his taste in metal) said "check out real metal bands, not this crap. Metal is kicking right now with a band called Iced Earth, they are your key to metal happiness."

Everything changed from that moment. Now, I listen to almost every genre I can think of discluding some of the obvious ones.

I grew up listening to Classic rock(mainly just The Who), then I got out of music for, then got into alternative and other rock for a bit, then went back to classic rock. Because of the riff in "Heartbreaker", I got back into classic rock(about 3-4 years ago).

When I was really young, I listened to everything my parents listen to: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Don Henley, the Eagles. Then I went through a phase where I thought that Foreigner song, "Urgent," was the coolest freakin' thing on the planet. But then I had my own mainstream phase: it was all about Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit. I quickly outgrew them though, mostly because my parents thought it was a horribly negative thing to be listening to with all the swearing. I still really liked heavy music, though, so I was watching VH1 one day and heard about Creed. They played mostly songs from My Own Prison, and so I said "Hey, there's a pretty heavy band that doesn't swear so much!" I picked up "My Own Prison" soon after, which I loved, soon followed by purchases of 3 Doors Down and Third Eye Blind. I loved them. I tried to get into Incubus for a while, but it didn't work.

Through Creed, I got into Pearl Jam, and then after that I heard the song that made me want to play guitar: "Gets Us All In The End," by Jeff Beck. That was sooo badass that I just had to listen to some more guitar-oriented stuff. For a while, though, I had a huge big-drumset fetish, which got me into Tool, and then Rush. Rush quickly became one of my favorite bands. A guy in a music store introduced me to Dream Theater, and then through all that I decided I LOVED prog music. When I read about Opeth in a guitar magazine, I picked up "Blackwater Park." That was a huge awakening for me. Opeth's acoustic stuff made me want to get into fingerpicking more, and my next stop was my mother's Celtic music. I loved the beauty in that style, and the acoustic guitarist I heard, William Coulter, was exceptional. But then my father introduced me to Michael Hedges, who I consider to be the end-all and be-all of acoustic playing: the man was truly a genius. Finally, my dad bought a Satriani CD that I quickly apprehended, and that got me into Vai as well. Now I listen to a huge variety of stuff: death metal, classic rock, Celtic music, New Age classical and Windham Hill type stuff, guitar virtuoso rock, hair metal, prog rock and prog metal.

There are quite a few other 15 year olds at this forum that listen to the same stuff as I, but that makes up about what, .111% of the 15 year-olds in the USA?
You're 15?

Well, since we're going into heavy detail about our musical evolutions, the biggest trigger for me was when I started listening to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Rush. The occult and mystical references were abundant, and I'm sure most of you know I have a penchant for the arcane.

Anyway, I started seeking out more music that fed those interests. I quickly latched onto Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Blue Oyster Cult, Iron Maiden, Savatage, Iced Earth, and so on. Everything I look for in the arts is simply my desire to learn more about secrets, occult subject material, and esoteric topics.

Power metal provided a perfect vehicle for that, and as I grew more accustomed to metal vocals, I began to seek out black metal starting with Celtic Frost. Opeth I'm starting to get into as well.

The snowball is still rolling as I keep buying up more and mroe albums. Holy Diver, Hellfire Club, Soul Temptation, The Symphony of Enchanted Lands Part II. Soon I'll have Once, Wishmaster, The Black Hand Inn, and Imaginations from the Other Side.

EDIT: It figures that in the time I spent typing that exercise in self-indulgence out, that the conversation in the thread would out-shoot me by a mile.

Well sometimes he seems to have the same kind of attitude as Humor/Spiral and friends, and sometimes he's just an asshole. I like Humor, hes on my AIM list, and while I don't frequently talk to him, from time to time hes not a bad guy. Spiral on the other hand almost (for me, don't take offense Bartender :) ) flames me or anyone else whatever chance he gets. People complain about Zakath, but Spiral is way worse, thats how I see it anyway.

I was never much bothered by him either way, but I suppose you've just been seeing the latter part, for whatever reason. I can't help you on that reason, though. The main reason is that I don't have a 02 joint date and I have tons of posts. I can't change that. Its not my fault. Hes going to get himself banned if he keeps bothering me (he already did today). Its not that I want him banned, but being followed around wherever I go is annoying, and should be dealt with.

I keep forgetting to go there :-/ And then I feel bad because Spiral'll ask me about something, and I have no idea what he's talking about.

Eh, pretty uneventful. I listened to Pantera all day, and now i'm listening to "Floods" by them.

OH, I also saw Dodgeball, A True Underdog Story.

ITs funny, but not as funny as people made it out to be.

I saw it with some friends on my last day living in Virginia. The thing about the movie is that all the funny parts were on the commercials.

That film's pretty low down in my "to watch" list. It didn't really look that great. The Incredibles on the other hand, is brilliant.

I watched it because I was alone with the film. I never rented it though, my brother did...

However, I have not seen the Incredibles or in fact Shrek 2.

I still haven't seen Shrek 2 or believe it or not, Finding Nemo :( (which I've heard is one of the funniest animated movies in quite some time) but I don't know whether to believe friends or not

But a girl invited me over to see it sometime, so I think I'll hold off from watching it until then. ;)

Another thing that pisses me off about the Pit lately (yeah yeah I know stfu), is the shallowness. What reminded me, is that 033 listed you in her list. Now, I ignore it, and I don't care, but has the pit gone that far down? Thats really shallow...I mean, its pretty sad.

Granted, i've made quite the amount of Circlejerk threads in my day, I still haven't stooped that low...

Shrek 2 and Finding Nemo are both well worth seeing too, but I wouldn't say as good as The Incredibles. Especially in the animation..the Incredibles animation was just unbelievably good.

A circle jerk thread would be an award thread or something like "List the users you like" etc.

Circle Jerking taken literally is everyone sitting in a circle and jerking each other off, hence the idea behind the threads.

Mekkalayakay
12-12-2004, 12:30 AM
All the who's hottest threads are lame. And the comments Spkiey and 033 made about you pissed me off.... I already hated Spikey, but 033... I used to like her.

Regardless, how can you not have feelings, internet or not? If someone insulted me personally, or mocked me because of my looks/actions on something, I would obviously get mad/upset. Everybody would. And I don't see how they can't understand that.

Some attractive girl listed me as number 2 on her list (as being attractive). She quoted the girl (and specifically that number, so I knew it was me) and put a  along with Are you serious?, as if, I looked like crap. How did she expect me to react to that? With love and candy? I was obviously hurt somewhat. It got into a long drawn argument about how I "care" what people think on the internet. Needless to say, I ended up apologizing to Spikey, and some n00b backing her up.
