Can you recommend something?
I could, but I'm not too hot on black metal. My black metal listening, so far anyway, spread about as far as Burzum or Immortal. For Immortal, check out anything from At The Heart of Winter - it's not ultra-raw, tr00 black metal, but it's a great album and probably a good introduction. If you want the true stuff, check out Mayhem - songs like Freezing Moon, Funeral Fog and Pure ****ing Armageddon.
Good symphonic black metal are bands like Emperor, and older Arcturus, but I haven't taken the time to check them out properly yet. Superpeer or Per Ardua should be along soon enough, they could give you more, and better, recommendations :)
EDIT: Good as Gorguts are, I don't think they're black metal.

what's the biggest diference between black and death metal? i'm confused...i know what's melodic death metal...and i like some bands (at the gates is frekin awesome!) but i can't seem to "separate" black from death. n e 1?

Well my twenty CDs are costing me about £6.66 each, because the store I was ordering from was having a sale. I just explained to my mam that the sale would run out (it ends 31st of August) before I would have any additional money, so she let me borrow money from her in advance.

It's true...the prices between Canada/Euros are nearly equivalent. I mean it like, if a shirt here costs $30, it costs 30 euros. And 1 euro = 1.8 Canadian, or something like that. I was pissed, I couldn't buy anything in Italy.
Well, thats what you get for living in Europe.

Cd prices in US chain store are almost always as horrendous as they are in English chain stores. If anything, the stores here seem to have better sales than American stores, even if the regular prices are just as bad.

Yeah, unfortunately, a good 90% of dance music is utter shyte (I like dance music, just FYI), but alot of no-talent producers have the balls to sample a song, apply a one note bassline, some distorted strings and call it a "remix"
Its ridiculous. You should hear what some of these people have "remixed"...
Another Brick in the Wall...California Dreaming...Riders on the Storm <-- actually that one isn't bad.
I used to DJ house music, and I still produce some (those production skills come in handy for recording my own music :thumb: )
But most dance music is shyte, period.

I know what you mean...it's one of the few subjects that seems really interesting, and yet challenging at the same time to me. Unlike stuff like physics, which is just plain challenging. The main reason I might not do it next year is to do history & ecomonics instead, and then try and take it up again at university.
*realises school starts in less than 2 weeks, and I really should have chosen subjects now. :upset:*
Are you choosing subjects for AS? If you are, I'd recommend Psychology, unless you're specifically against it for some reason - I chose it because I thought it'd be interesting, and it turned out to be really fun to do (helped by the fact one of the teachers I had for it was great), and really easy; since you haven't done it before, they have to build it from the ground up, so I found it pretty easy to catch on to.
Anyway, you can always drop it for A2 if you don't like it.

I find that if you mention stuff like that, people look shocked, but then become quite interested. And I'm not doing A levels, but the Baccalaureate (sp?) instead. The only problem with that is, I can only do 2 of economics, philosophy, history and economics, which are all subjects I really want to do.
Oh okay. Let me know what you end up choosing to do.

Hah...
It was such a fun class...at least it incited intelligent discussion and provoked thought. Beats the hell out of economics. *shudder*
My only experience with actual philosophy lessons was horrible. Firstly, it was a compulsory class, for a third of the school year, so only 5 people were wanting to actually discuss the subject; the other 15 or so were just there because they had to be.
Secondly, the teacher was a languages teacher who fancied himself as a philosophy teacher (the actual philosophy teacher, an absolute legend called Dr Roffe, left the previous year to teach English in France). The material we talked about was interesting, and the written material he gave us was good enough, but I was amazed at how he managed to make such a potentially interesting subject so dull/inept.
Still, I read books, so I'm still interested in the actual subject.

I'd never have begun writing a book if I didn't take philisophy class. My class was great...some days I'd sleep because I worked 9 hours the night before, and the teacher would be like "Rob wake up" and I'd say "well sir, I believe that everything is subjective. This being so, I don't know if you are real or Tn fact, this is too much for me to handle right now, so I'll just put my head down." ZzzZZZz.
Teacher stood there with mouth open and chalk in his hand for like 10 seconds. 0wned.

Teacher: "tuck in your shirt" (I went to catholic school, we had uniforms)
Student: "Fcuk you sir."
Teacher: "Go to the office."
Student: "Whatever, I'm going to go smoke a joint."
Teacher: "Fine, just get out."

I hate going to a religious school, not only do they push religion down your throats but they're so strict about everything you can barely walk down a corridor without getting pulled. We do make a thing of asking one teacher wether he's hit, or sold his baby on Ebay  There's barely any teachers that will let you get away with anything. And they all think I'm either suicidal or a Satanist.

It's funny though because you don't have to be catholic to go to a catholic school. so I had school with athiests, muslims, sikhs, everything. And there was a religion class. Imagine all these people having catholicism homework. Too funny.
I had one amazing religion teacher, and only because it was "world religion" (as opposed to looking up bible passages, we were learning about all the religions around the world.) I showed up 45 minutes late every single day, slept in class, and still got a 92%. I loved that guy.

I'm sure our RE techer is a paedophile, he asks people if they chew their lips in their sleep and what they've got under their shirts (this was a girl). He also HAS to be right, about everything even if everyone including him knows he's made it all up, all we ever talk about is Christianity except when he goes off on a tangent about his life (we have about 5 differing reports on his birthplace all from him). I know people who used to be Christians nd have been completely put off by religious schools so I personally don't believe in them.

Well, we were cooking burgers for food, but soon got bored with that, so we tried cooking the buns as well. Then we tried cooking the burgers already in the buns, but that didn't work too well. We cooked a lichee (no idea of the spelling) fruit for about 3 hours, and it was still surpisingly nice afterwards.
Pretty much anything of low enough value was cooked at some point. We had a speary-prongy thing for lifting and prodding what was cooking, and I snapped the handle.
EDIT: oh, we also cooked a sausage for the same three hours as that fruit..we could use it to write in charcoal on the wall afterwards.

I've heard Stabbing Westward, didn't like it a lot.

A friend of mine went through a phase of liking Stabbing Westward a few months back, but the songs he showed me I wasn't too keen on. I like NIN though. Recommendations please?

I've heard the name, Stabbing Westward, but I've never actually heard any songs. Do you have any recommendations?

Basically when I want to sample a new band, I download all I can by them so I can get a real feel for their overall sound. When you just get one or two songs, especially singles, you run into problems when you buy the album. What a blessing a cable connection has been.

Yeah, but I'm on 56K. And thanks, I'll make a note of those tracks; not enough time to download them now, as I'm going to my dads soon.

I've never been keen on NIN or industrial in general.
I do like Rammstein though.

New funniest song ever. Moby - The Ultimate **** Song. Not because of lyrics but because of what happens to the tempo. I wouldn't exactly call it a good song but it's funny if you have the extra time.

Meh, I hardly listen to songs solely for their funniness.

The song can only be described one way.

Yay back from lunch.
Mmmmmmm poutine.
Fast Fingers, I highly recommend Acid Bath to you. Probably one of my favorite bands ever (even though they only had two full length releases). They have such a distinct, diverse sound. They have elements of hardcore, sludge, death, and sometimes go very melodic. They stopped making music after the bass player died, but they were so, so good.

I wonder why bass players always die early. Acid Bath's did, Roger Patterson (Atheist) did, Cliff Burton did.

Cliff and Acid Bath's player both in automobile incidents too. Odd.

I can think of more singer/songwriters than bass players who died early. Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, SRV, Cobain, whatsisface from AC/DC...

So was Patterson :-/
He was only 22 as well, and already an unbelievable bass player.

Bon Scott from AC/DC I think. Yeah I know, just bass players was always the one that struck me, for some reason.

And thanks for the name. I couldn't remember it for some reason.

Dying from an OD is so cliche these days.
Kurdt Cobain tried to OD, but I think he realized he'd look like a *****, so he ate a flurry of buckshot.

Defenestration > Disembowelment.
Tony Choy was a brilliant replacement though.
That he was, though I think Patterson wrote all the bass parts for Unquestionable Presence before dying.
I thought just a while ago, if Patterson hadn't died, Choy wouldn't have left Cynic, and then Sean Malone wouldn't have gotten his break playing for them.
Anyway, I'm going to my dads now. See you all tomorrow.
