No kidding. I want dreads so bad that it's not even funny. But I can't get them until I move out because my mom won't let me live in her house if I "look like a homeless person". She also has this incredibly stupid notion that they smell. I think it's more or less just her brain associating them with homeless people, but still, it's pretty stupid to hate something you know nothing about.

Tell her she's a ****ing idiot if she thinks they'll smell. Your supposed to wash your hair every night to get rid of moisture. You just don't condition them. And you gotta wax them. But yeah, dreads aren't dirty, they're just a bunch of locks of knotted hair, or "dreaded" hair.

Isn't one of the ways to get dreads not washing your hair?
i am the robots
11-16-2004, 06:33 PM
That is one of the ways... but they don't look as nice, and they do smell. All you need to do is get your hair knotted in locks, and get that bonded together. The best way is with wax. Wash your hair every night for a few weeks, without conditioning. Then dread it, then wax it.

Howdy all. Had a great sleep last night. Yeah, I'm growing my hair long, but unfortunately it is getting too bushy. Have to get it thinned.

Hello all of those who are online..
If you get dreads.... consult your parents.... and gaurd them with your life.
Trust me, it'll pay off.
Why consult your parents first? I never really did like dreads..From what I've seen, I'd rather have every hair flying in every conceivable direction than having maybe..20 clumps of hair on my head..
keep the fro.no dreads An afro on white dudes? Show me a picture where they don't look like a wigger.. Best afro I've seen is on Jimi Hendrix, and he wasn't white..
lol, so do I..... haven't washed my hair in a week, haven't combed it since I was in 6th grade
And how old are you now? For some reason I'm thinking 14, I think you said it earlier in this thread..How long is your hair though? Oh and if you're not 14, my appologies.

Hello, no one. You're all offline, aren't you?
Anyway, only reason I grew my hair long was because I was too cheap to get it cut. November 7th 2002 was the last time, hopefully ever.
On a side note, I'm really hungry. I went to sleep around 4pm, having not eaten, and woke up at 2:30am to find out that I have no food in the house, and all the shops are closed.
On another side note, I've been listening to Refused - New Noise for nearly two hours now. I really need to get the album.
Bartender

On yet another side note, does anyone here listen to the Cocteau Twins? Failing that, has anyone heard Teardrop by Massive Attack? Anyway, I think I'm falling in love with Liz Fraser's voice.

It's a weird, simple little composition that I'm doing, it's all in one key and it's very open to improv, so I'm trying to nail down some steady licks on it. It's a middle eastern sounding thing, basically I'm just hammering the open low E and playing middle-eastern sounding licks with it.

Yeah I figured it was E because it all harmonizes with the open E.
The sound is more I guess in the way I play it...sharp attacks, lots of reverb, more hi-end, and such. Kind of a sitarish sound I guess. When I get the programs working I'll plug it in and overdub it over some lush synthy stuff, maybe add some actual sitar, who knows.

I downtuned my guitar (a lot) for the top 3 strings, and I'm playing it slap (I suck at that too), but the thing is, I just realized that Fieldy is truly talentless. All he does is downtune his bass until the strings are really loose, and then plays slap.

Using 10's for 2 steps down is going to be extremely loose. Use 11's or 12's for that far down tuning and they won't feel like twine. 10's are only good for standard or one step down tunings...if you had 11's or 12's on a 2 step down tune your strings would feel like you were using 10's in standard.

Tune using harmonics. Not always perfect but at least you're in tune with yourself. You could use a tuner for low E then go from there with harmonics.

Thats cool, we all start from the bottom...
What are you practicing at the moment?
I generally never learn other songs. I just kind of look at tabs to understand the way things work (I know, I'm stupid).
I'm going to start with some Velvet Underground stuff though, to work on chord changes. They're relatively simple, and one of my favorite bands so it should be fun.

No, I meant in realtion to other bands (as in we are comparing to great bands, and though Pink Floyd is better imo, Yes is still superior to the majority of bands). I think the only aspect Yes might be more technically talented than Pink Floyd is bass.
