This was Bowie's 4th (5th Official) Major outing as a rock star. This album, to many rock and roll fans, changed the way we look at rock and roll. For David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust introduced us to a new wave of rock and rock. GLAM ROCK. And before music sold out to it's extremes by the 1980's. This was how GLAM ROCK was done properley. One of the best albums ever made to date....By anyone...

Five Years - 10/10

The soft patter of drums fades in to a song that starts this epic story of an album. The song sings about the end of the world. All the emotions of tragedy are expressed deeply. Shock, sadness, panic are all crammed beautifully into a dream like song. Gentle weeping piano and soft soothing vocals from David warn us that the end of the world is near. Great album intro.

Soul Love 10/10

In a complete change of mood. This song comes to teach us about one thing even the end of the world can't destroy. LOVE. A very smooth rock sound with crunchy guitar and a kick *** chorus remind us that Love is undying. Very jazz like song with some nice saxophone and acoustic guitar bits.

Moonage Daydream - 10/10

The Ultimate Rock Song. Nonsense lyrics. Great Chorus. Kick *** Guitar solo (actually made Guitar World's Top 100 solo's of all time). This song sings about the moonage daydream. Basically a freak out psychadelic song. One of David's most rocking songs from any album. Sci-Fi imagery and yet MORE pan flute complete the excellence which is MOONAGE DAYDREAM.

Starman - 10/10

He has arrived. This song kicks off the actual concept part of the LP. There is a light in the sky. The radio and T.V channels have been intercepted. Starman is the song that pretty much introduces Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" character. He has come from outerspace to teach the children how to rock and roll. A very cool song that has to be heard by everyone.

It Ain't Easy - 9/10

Here is a song that was written by Ron Davies. And NOT Mr. David Bowie. A great rocking tune about sin. "It ain't easy to get to heaven when you're goin' down". The chorus of this song really lifts the song into an arena rocker.

Lady Stardust - 9/10

The soft piano powered ballad of the album. This song sings about sexual confusion. This certain issue played a key role in Bowie's career. Topics of homosexuality/bisexuality were always hot issues in the eyes of the critics about many classic rockers. Very raw bar room lounge tune.

Star - 10/10

Pick-Me-Up rock song about high hopes of becoming a rock and roll star, despite the piling odds against you. Nice guitar riffs and backup harmonies.

Hang On To Yourself - 8.5/10

A different style creeps out in this song. More of a Punk-Rock song than arena rock. Nice change of pace for this album. Very nifty Punk style solo (short but sweet). This song probably holds some sort of record for being the only song to incorporate Badgers and Vaseline in the same line...

Ziggy Stardust - 7.5/10

Easily the weakest song on the album. This song sings about the Ego of the Ziggy Stardust. How his stardom and fame eventually lead to his downfall. Not a terrible song, but the least memorable of the album. Great drumming though.

Suffragette City - 10/10

One of Bowie's more radio friendly tracks. This is a kick *** blues/hard rock song. Hard to decipher the meaning of this song. To me it sounds like the uprising of women. Either way, this song is a classic. It also coined the phrase "Wham Bam Thank You M'am".

Rock 'N' Roll Suicide - 9/10

Another fitting closing track to an album. This song is about hitting rock bottom as a Rock Star. Get too famous, you are over exposed and eventually it all comes crashing down. A slower song that seems to be cooling down from the energy this album produces. Great closer.

Overall Rating - 9.5/10

This is easily David Bowie's best album. Almost perfect attempt at capturing the experience of glam rock at its finest. Some essential Bowie tracks are to be found on this LP

This is a great album! Bowie is definately one of the great writers-visionaries in the music industry. He continues to expand his ecclectisism to this day. My favorites are Low and Heroes. This album is an important piece of rock history. 5outta5 :D

great review! in spite of the fact you've rated too low numbers such as ziggy stardust (9/10 for me) or rock'n'roll suicide (10/10).
Supreme masterpiece (10/10)

Wow, such a strong liking for that track... I just think the rest of the album is better... I find Ziggy Stardust doesnt have as much replayability.

To each his own. :thumb:

Ok, so the other day I was listening to some David Bowie cds and this ones my favorite so I thought "I guess I'll write a review. Here we go. Also, remember tgis is a concept album telling the story of Ziggy and the Spiders.

Five Years- 4.5/5
The first song on this cd and a great opening one. It starts the story of Ziggy by telling about how the earth will be gone in 5 years, because of lack of natural resources. This is a really good song in my opinion and has good piano in it and as always excellent singing.

Soul Love- 4/5
The second song tells about the different kind of love. Religious, friendly, romantic, ect. This song is pretty good, but not as good as the others.

Moonage Daydream- 5/5
This song is great. It talks about "freakin out in a moonage daydream" and is one of the best songs on this album.

Starman-5/5
Another great song talks about a "starman waiting in the sky" which is ziggy stardust and how he wants to come down here, but he thinks he'll blow our minds. This song talks about people first hearing the Spiders on the radio for the first time. This was also the first single.

It ain't easy- 3.5/5
Still good, but the worst song on here. This song was written by Ray DAvies originally. I'm not sure why it was put on a concept album, but o well. I guess it relates to the story in this context by saying "it ain't easy" for Ziggy.

Lady Stardust- 5/5
Great song. Talks about Ziggy and Lady Stardust playing his "songs of darkness and dismay." Also, says how people laughed at the way he moved and look, but everyone thought they were alright and the kids were excited.

Star- 4.5/5
Ziggy thinks he can make a livin as a rock n roll star. This song is definately worth listening to, but not the best one.

Hang on to Yourself-5/5
I think this is just a song The Spiders played at their shows. It has great guitar and just altogether a great song.

Ziggy Stardust- 5/5
One of my favorites on this album. It's the story of Ziggy in the spiders up to this point in a nutshell. Ziggy played guitar and the audience loved him and the band got jealous. This also talks about the band breaking up because "the kids had killed the man". I'm pretty sure that just means drove him to insanity though. Great guitar also.

Suffragette City- 5/5
I'm not sure what this song is about, but I'm fairly sure it just talks about Ziggy's fall into madness and depression and how no one will help him. This is the song that made "Wam Bam Thank you Mam" popular.

Rock n' Roll Suicide- 4/5
The last song. Tells of Ziggy finally killing himself. This is a great but depressing song.

In, concluscion this is a great album 5/5 overall. I would suggest this to anyone who likes good music.

No, I wrote that review several days ago on Mesa Music Forum and Chuck Norris scammed my review. If you want proof heres the review I posted: http://mesamusic.cjb.net/. It won't let me link directly to it, but go to entertainment then click reviews and its there. Also look at the date I posted it. Its before the time Chuck Norris posted it on here. So, could you delete his as hghe stole it from me?

Call me a butt-insky... but I could not let this one pass by...

Its TIGERS in vaseline.

But just to make sure... before firing off this post I watched several bootleg dvd's in which he sings this song and in each one he clearly says "Tigers" :amaze:
