TOOL PROMO TOUR
"As it now stands, in a few weeks (mid-February) the members of the band (except for Adam) and their manager will be traveling to parts of Europe, England, Japan and Australia on a bit of a promo tour, meaning that they will be meeting with record company people and doing various interviews with the press in order to promote their new record and upcoming tours. Although any press releases are usually timed to coincide with the release of the record, there will undoubtedly be leaks, so those of you who scour the internet should be on the lookout around this time. As the others field questions and deal with promo issues abroad, Adam will remain in Los Angeles to direct the new Tool video. "
And so it begins...promotions! tour dates! videos! singles! leaks ( ) I will NOT listen to any damn leaks that turn out somewhere. I've been looking forward for this release for ever now and I don't want to ruin the experience with some leak. It will be difficult but not impossible, heh. I managed to stay away from them when NIN's 'With Teeth' was leaked so I can do it again.

I'm definately not downloading any leaks. I never do when it's a band I really like. Waiting until the day it comes out and going out and buying it beats hearing some crappy leak on the internet any day. It's so anti-climactic that way.

Admittedly I've just cited myself as a source, but I got it from the LA times, which is reporting that Tool are playing there. So any Californians who can get there, you may want to be by your computer this weekend when tickets go on sale. It is their first gig since the end of the Lateralus tour, isn't it? I'm surprised that Tool are playing Reading rather than Download...Reading's become more of an indie-focused thing in the last few years, and Download would be the more obvious choice. Maybe it's because more people go to Reading...
I'm interested in hearing bootlegs from the show, hopefully new material's going to be in the set.
That's as far as me listening to bootlegs of new material will go, that is unless the album's already in my possession at that time.

I'd say that Porcupine Tree sounds the most like Pink Floyd. Most PF is easy to listen to, as is PT, and both bands have a large range of song structures. They both can/could write great pop songs to please the masses, but they can also bust out with an 15 minute+ soundscape of pure joy and sex appeal. :p Granted, PT will never have the popularity that Floyd did, but still, they sound a lot alike to me.
Aside from a couple instances, I don't think Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree sound anything alike.

To be honest, no Tool songs are well known. From a pop standpoint definately, or even an alternative standpoint, particulary.
I get the feeling he's not a great drummer. Most drummers can easily bash their way through a pop/rock song. Doing something like Tool is a little different.

Jul. 4-8 – NOR @ Quart Festival (to be confirmed)
Aug. 25-27 – Reading, UK @ Reading Festival
By the way, I have that song, 'Choke' on my computer. I found it a few months ago when I was searching for material from Maynard's older band, CAD. Wasn't really sure whether it was Tool or not..but now I guess it is. If anyone's interested let me know and I'll upload it.

Well, I dug up some information on the song and I found that it is not infact, Tool. However, the vocals on there were actually done by MJK. Here's a review of the album ('Flyin' Traps') in which you can find the song:
"This collection, compiled by Redd Kross drummer Brian Reitzell, features 15 tracks by some of the most important drummers of the "alternative" rock world. Yet it's not a drumming album per se, considering only two tracks are actual drum solos (and oddly enough, one of those two solos is performed by J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr guitar fame). Still, Flyin' Traps is almost entirely instrumental -- and the drumming is obviously the centerpiece -- but the performances are essentially song- oriented. A few tracks are dead giveaways to the band a particular drummer resides in: Steven Drozd (Flaming Lips), Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails), and Dale Crover (Melvins) all perform tracks that sound like their respective bands. That's not necessarily a weakness -- Drozd's psychedelic "Headphones Theme from Seemingly Infinity" is actually one of the standouts, along with the rhythmically intense "The Gay '90s" by Josh Freese (of Paul Westerberg and Slider fame). It may be for special tastes, but at least it's nice to see the guys in the back moving to the forefront for a change."
Anyway, here's the song for anyone who wants to give it a listen:

RELEASE DATES NOT OFFICIAL
Although there are lots of release dates being bandied about, NONE are official as of this posting. However, in all likelihood, the CD will be released sometime in MAY, and hopefully earlier in that month as opposed to later. As soon as the date becomes official (or, as soon as I'm told that it's official) I will post it on the site, and then some of you can respond that it's old news.
So, the album is coming out in May.

That's a horrible name for anything. Refractionoid?

What are you on about? That name is amazing. It shows Tool's deeply intellectual nature, and their inner reflection of the earth as a secular as well as spirtual force not bounded by the physical laws of man. Insightful is a word I'd use to describe it.

I saw these amazing percussionists from New York tonight. My lover's chior sang with them.
The group was called Ethos. Four percussionists. They use tabla, xylophone, bongos, a drum set and all kinds of different things. The reason I'm saying this is some of the things they did reminded me of Tool, especially the tabla playing. They had a huge gong too, and they created such a great atmosphere. It was one of the coolest things I've seen in a LONG time.
There was also this part where each of them were playing the same rhythm on a single drum that each of them had in 4/4, and were all at the same time reciting "Ta-ki-da-ma-ta-ki-ta" in 7/4 time. Then they varied the tempo of the vocalizing and syncopated it while still keeping every bit of the drumming perfect. It was insane how good these guys were.
The atmospher really reminded me of Lateralus and especially Danny Carey, as he plays tabla and other things as well.

I'm not all too excited about the title either, but I'm sure when we hear the new material maybe we'll get it more. It isn't a bad name by any means though.

I know this isn't the best way to get your attention, but the "other" forums have been revived, and there's quite a bit of activity now. I was wondering if you were still interested in the place...
A .com will be coming by tomorrow too!

Can anyone in here tell me the time sigs for DC's solo at the end of The Grudge? I think it alternates between 3/4 and 4/4 but I'm not sure.

Just counting it I think its 6/8-4/8-6/8-4/8-6/8-4/8-6/8- the pause is 5/8 i think, then 5/8 from the tom roll on.

This thread sorely needs new topics of discussion if you people have to resort to lame pranks like that to amuse yourselves.
When you get 20 n00bs a day asking what the name and release date of the album is, saying "we don't know" to every one gets old after a while.

Yeah, it's far better to lead them on so they feel frustrated and foolish. Then you can have a few giggles at their expense and feel like a "real" Tool fan.

Or they can learn not to take everything at face value. Is it really that hard to check wikipedia, toolband, or toolshed for confirmation?
