Enjoy, people. I only just finished downloading it, so I'm only into Disposition as we speak(24 minutes to go \m/) but so far, it is amazing. I've always thought Disposition was amazing, but live, it's even more of a trip. :p
They are both amazing artist but i do prefer Alex Grey, the guy is so unique, another great artist even though he has nothing to do with tool is Tony Koehl.
In my opinion, one of the best artists of recent times is Clyfford Still, who was an abstract expressionist. His paintings are primarily centered around textures and the ambience of experimental formations, usually without any true decipherable form. Another great painter is Salvador Dali, but most of you probably know about him.

Amazon has just released a list of albums to be released on January 3rd...anyone want to guess who's album is NOT listed?
Even if Tool are finished recording the album, they haven't a clue when they're going to release it.
Are Tool still with Volcano? I would think the label would insist that once they actually know the release date, that they let retailers know.

The special features basically consist of a couple of band commentaries.
Meh. Very meh. While it's not often we get to hear their direct thoughts on their music, it's still very meh. I've got both videos on my computer, so unless I can find these used for a buck each, I don't think I'm buying these.

The concepts of the album vary, and if you mean the song I don't see how you see it that way. I think the song clearly means to take whatever energies, good bad or sad, that you get from an experience and make something of it.

Theres goin to be 2 videos Schism and Parabol/Parabola, Why would they release them seperatly?
As far as I can see the only reasons are:
A>The artwork is going to be really impressive and people will be able to get two different types?
B>Theres going to be more special features that havnt been announced (I personally hope this is the case)?
C>There looking for more money (which doesnt make sense because theyre only $8 each and anyway they dont seem the kinda guys that are like that)?
D>They see it as being a better option to choose if you want to buy one dvd at $8 or two for $16 instead of paying $15-$20 for one dvd with both videos and one set of artwork? (this seems the most believable option)
What do you all think?

Did anyone else notice this paragraph from wikipedia?
Although the end of the tour seemed to spell another dormancy for the band, they did not become completely inactive. While Keenan recorded and toured with A Perfect Circle, the other band members released an official interview conducted by (long-time toolband.com maintainer) Blair McKenzie Blake in which they answered many questions about the upcoming album, future DVD releases, and the new direction of their music. Members of the Tool Army were also given access to a recording of the three members jamming to some of their new material, sparking increased anticipation for the album to come.
I don't recall hearing about the band letting people hear some of the new material.

Just in case there was some lingering doubt: the album is absolutely finished being recorded...Justin is on a sailboat sailing towards the Dutch Antilles (per Blair's most recent post).
YouGottaBeCrazy
12-02-2005, 03:00 PM
Yeah, I just read that. If he's on a sailboat heading to someplace far away, then there's no doubt in my mind that the album is done. What's left is the music video and the artwork, which has been worked on for a few months now, I think. I believe this album will be coming a lot earlier then when I originally predicted (June 2006).

Lateralus was finished recording on January 23rd, and released 5 months later. However, I suspect the conflict with Volcano had something to do with that.
I find it curious that Maynard said "once the album is released and the holidays subsided"...in that order. If the album is to be released in, say, February, wouldn't he have said "once the holidays are over and the album is released". January 3rd is looking more possible to me.

Maynard thinks Leonardo is the coolest Ninja Turtle and the new album will have a 28 minute song completely dedicated to him, as well as a fold out poster of him in the liner notes.

PARABOL/PARABOLA & SCHISM DVD PRE-ORDERS
I've just been informed that pre-sales of the PARABOL(A) & SCHISM dvds will be available in the TA SHOPPING BAZAAR tomorrow (that's FRIDAY, DEC 9). Any orders will be packed up over the weekend and shipped out on Monday (Dec 12th) and Tuesday (Dec 13th), so that those who want them slightly before they're released in the chains can do so (also, in case some of you are worried about finding them in your local record stores). The dvds for Parabol(a) and Schism are being sold separately, each one for $9.98 (I'm fairly sure) plus shipping and handling. Each one contains the video with audio commentary by a guest (and NOT by the band members) plus a LUSTMORD audio re-mix of the song.
Hmm. I wonder if that's really all they're going to have. I thought they were really gonna have commentary by the band. Oh well. Just thought I'd share this.

Not surprising, they were both very alternative and both guitarists have bizarre tones. Remember that peer doesn't necessarily mean they liked Nirvana.

Hey there Sinner's and Enlightened Ones alike,
For those who are fans TOOL (granted), Alex Grey and of Daily Grail (http://www.dailygrail.com), there is a news update:
Those out there who enjoyed the Alex Grey piece in the most recent issue of Sub Rosa, and who like that teeny-boppin' boy band known as TOOL, might be interested in a new book from Alex Grey scheduled for June 2006. The short blurb for the book includes this: "Tool celebrates the fusion of two of the top talents in the worlds of art and music."
And if you like TOOL and art combined, then you're surely a person of high tastes and don't mind combining the legendary band with some wine as well. And what better wine to drink when listening to Mister Keenan's dulcet tones than this little drop? I'm sure our good friend Blair over at Toolband.com has been telling us about this for months now, but knowing him he probably wrapped it in some esoteric biliteral cipher known only to a few enlightened initiates (and their drinking buddies, waitresses, and really anybody who would listen to them at 3am after a long night).
Just something else to wet appetites till the Live DVD and new album come out..
Prying Open my Third Eye,

Anyways, its Christmas break! Woohooo!!! Exams=over. I didn't study for any of them, and I think the outcome will be just fine. I haven't been listening to Tool for quite some time, and actually probably wont listen to them til I hear the new album. I've actually started to take a liking in From First to Last, some emo and indie stuff, etc... Oh, and The Fall of Troy is like woooaaahhh. I'm starting to get my band together. Not sure what we'll sound like though. I was thinking metal before, but now, I want a good mix of metal, post hardcore, lots of melody, breakdowns, acoustic interludes, and the such. Who knows where this may be going.

Jello Biafra's actually quite a smart guy, even though I'm not quite sure why Tool of all bands have picked him to be a commentator. I'm guessing it's got more to do with similar political beliefs to members of the band than anything else, but he is quite an odd choice. Jesus Lizard were a great band, but that's a very strange pick to me. Considering that they could have got so many people to do the commentaries, the picks are quite disappointing.
I wasn't saying he was stupid, I've seen him on a documentary and he seems like a smart, cool guy. I meant to say, what the hell is this guy gonna have to say? Tool are, within alternative music, the polar opposite to what Jello does (not so much Jesus Lizard I'm assuming). The most interesting thing they'll have to say will probably be something like "oh yeah, I remember this thing creeped the shat out of me when I saw it".

i got it yesterday And to say most of you will be dissapointed with the way its presented in which to me seems HALF-***. The commentary, is doubled, its trippy to hear, its pretty hard to understand what he's saying, but its pretty funny. It comes with pics of the vid, and some behind the scenes pics. It's alright but, it seems they HAD to release a DVD, but they didn't want to. I'm just glad i got the videos.
I didn't expect any more or less than pure dissapointment.
Why do I want funny commentary about the videos? Christ, this pisses me off. What a lackluster and sub-par product.

Despite my best intentions, I bought them yesterday. The commentaries are absolutely worthless. Even if they were understandable, they had little, if anything, to do with the videos or the music. I appreciate that two has-beens should not be telling us what they think of Tool music, but their commentary was worthless; it was like having your dumbest, least eduacated friend over, getting him stoned, and then listening to him talk about a music video.
These things are crap.

I'm so tired of everyone trashing the singles, so before I review:
First of all, they are DVD SINGLES. This means that they are one song with a few extra things thrown in. I'm tired of hearing, "OMGZ WHERE R DA NU SONGZ LAWL?!!`1" coming out of every damn Tool fan's mouth. It's a single, you get what you get. If you expected more, you're retarded. If you wanted both to be released on the same disc, once again...it's a single. (Although that is a more valid argument than the previous, and I see where you're coming from.)
Second...Lustmord is an AMBIENT artist. If you don't know what ambient music is, look it up and you'll see why the remixes turned out the way they did. I mean honestly. If you bitch about that you're missing pieces of information.. B. Lustmord remixed the songs using his style to manipulate them.
Okay, so now that I got that out of the way, I must say I love both of the videos. Now instead of turning on my computer to watch them, I can put them on the TV! Woot.
The commentaries are not what I expected them to be. Jello Biafra is a damn smart guy, but the relationship between Tool and him doesn't make much sense. I'd rather have a band member or someone like Alex Grey commentate. But hey...I can always turn the commentary off.
The remixes might just be something I personally like. I'm a fan of Lustmord's work, so him remixing Tool is pretty special to me. Good stuff.
The menus...well let's see another band put something together like that. Granted, they are just menus and all, but still. Artistic++
Of course, another thing about the DVD singles: the copies I have had a sticker on them claiming the release of the next Tool album will be in Spring 2006. We all know that, but it's always nice to hear.
All in all, worth the money. They're eight bucks, they have the videos, art, Lustmord Remixes, and commentary. Even if they only contained the videos, they would be well worth it.

The reviews for Toology on amazon.com says that it's easily one of the worst things ever released on DVD, laughably awful. The band had nothing to do with the making of it.

I like how everyones pissed off because they illegally downloaded videos that wern't up for release yet. Those videos are amazing artwork; i'd say worth a few bucks/quid for each one isn't too much to ask. I'd like to own them in DVD quality.
Imagine what it was like the first time you saw the Schism/Parabola videos on your computer and you could watch them whenever you wanted. I'm sure most of you watched them a few times at least. Well, most Tool fans will get that, and in far superior quality. Most of whom might only have seen them on TV when they were released (If they were lucky) or maybe clips from the bands shows. Not everyone d/ls all the videos ripped from TV, and the band wouldn't expect you to, they crafted those videos and don't expect people to just steal all that art for free; so I see where they're coming from.
Having said that, from what I'm hearing about the commentaries; I wish they were better. I'll be getting mine shipped from america within the next few weeks, so we'll see. I'm also a little excited to hear the remixes of the songs in a different style.
Everyone was hoping for so much with these singles, thats why everyones saying they're utter crap. Everyone was like.. I bet theres a few more tracks on, or more special features, etc. *shrug*
I bet everyone complains when the live DVD comes out because it's the OK show, or something. That'd be hilarious.
You get what you pay for. The new album, on the other hand, that'll be something we can all enjoy.

This is the most cognitive, rational defense of the DVDs I've heard so far; well said mate. My main complaint is that I just paid $19.00 for two videos...let me say that again, I just paid $19.00 for two videos. Videos on iTunes cost $1.99 each, end of story. The commentaries are absolutely atrocious, incomprehensible nonsense.
I never had a complaint about the videos; the videos are fantastic. However, $19.00? Crikey!

Really? If i'd lived in America I could have gotten both videos for $5.99 each off amazon (Free postage if i'd have put them along with some other stuff I wanted). 12 bucks is like.. what? 7 quid or something. That'd be worth it for me personally, especially considering I get the remixes as well. Any more, and I know what you mean.
They probably *should* have put both of them on the same DVD so we got something a bit more like a Salival II.

I understand the whole "include them on one DVD" argument, but then how many bands include their singles on the same disc? None.
And don't give me some crap about singles collections, those don't count.

Most bands don't release singles four years after an album's released, either.
To pick an example of a double single would be Muse's Dead Star/In your world double single.

Did anyone read the newest Toolband.com update? Blair and Danny went on a little trip or something. There's something I noticed about it, though. It says they went to Danny's hometown Payola, Kansas. Except, it's spelt Paola. Payola, as I'm sure a lot of you know, is a bribe given to a disc jockey to induce him to promote a particular record. This is an illegal act but is known to be done by just about every record company. Blair also mentioned that when they pulled into Danny's childhood home driveway, "Schism" was playing on the radio. Considering the fact that he replaces Paola with Payola in the story more than once, do you think he's hinting at a new single soon?
