Good friends, new friends, boobs, insanely rich neighborhood and friken huge house, deep conversations about religion and astral projection and dreams, T-RAV pissing on himself, more boobs from the same girl, sluttiest excuses for halloween costumes ever, possible band formation, and believe it or not, there was not one little bit of alcohol or drugs in that party.

I'm not really much of a partier, and I don't drink or do drugs. That's why I've got MX and my CD collection.

I've been addicted to PT and listening to them nonstop since the concert last night.

Hey, I dragged along one of my good buddies to the Porcupine Tree show in Toronto, and ever since then he always wants to listen to the Porcupine Tree songs I've got in my iPod whenever we get together. Especially Halo, since as good as that song is on the album, they kicked some serious butt with that song when they played it live.

I'm just going to have to let him borrow and rip my copy of "Deadwing" already.

Undertow Ribcage story: Basically, when Undertow was released, Walmart replaced the ribcage that is typically displayed on the front of the album with a large barcode. They thought that a ribcage was too graphic, or something bullshit, so they censored it. I think Tool ended up making some kind of recall program where you could send in your barcoded Undertow booklet for a real Undertow booklet.

NO!

The barcode cover was made by Tool to differentiate the clean version from the regular (ribcage) one.

Dr. Jake Destructo
10-29-2005, 10:45 PM
Exactly. I mean, they don't censor movie covers, which can oftentimes depict corpses, blood, etc..

And BOOKS! The majority of adult books contain more graphic content than a Cannibal Corpse album, yet they censor Evanescence albums. I don't give a **** if Walmart only carries edited albums, but for them to create a double standard for different forms of entertainment, that's just moronic.

F1. Hmmm.. what's that on the cover?

Depends on where you bought your CD. If you bought it at Wal-Mart, it's a giant barcode. The gods of censorship have spoken. (You used to be able to get a real cover by writing in to an address printed in the liner notes; this offer does not appear to be valid anymore). Otherwise, it is a photo of a scuplture done by Adam, of a rib cage. And hey, did you know that if you hold the cover up to the light the ribcage encircles the fat lady on the inside?! (Little bonus trivia tidbit ... coincidence?)

Dude, there was this Spanish Tool site I was at in July. I forgot the website. Anyway, a guy on the forums had pictures of what he claimed the new artwork for the website was going to look like. You know what? That website has the exact same style of artwork. Perhaps that is what the site will look like in the future. Either way, it's very beautiful to look at. Lots of bright colors. :p
This is strange.

And I'm really getting PO'd with some of you guys who are keeping these website secrets from the rest of us.

If you have a mac, go to the "view" menu and click on "view source". Do this for both the splash page and the main news page (and wherever else, I guess). I don't know how to get to it if you're using a PC.

Honestly, I don't know.

On the splash page, I found a link to a site called http://www.once-upon-a-forest.com which may or may not have something to do with the new album's artwork.

So, here's the story I was telling everyone that AIM'd me:

Take a look at the picture (http://www.toolband.com/melvinsuck.jpg). Now, you see the Y in SAY? It represents 1/. If you look at it right, that's the shape it takes. Then, you see the ellipses? Well, look under the fourth ellipse, there are 2 streaks underneath it, forming a T, which, if you read The Davinci Code, comes up in a neohebrew cipher where some letters represent numbers and vice versa. The T, having 3 general extremities, represents the number 3.

I do know it's trip hop, and I've heard them compared to Portishead. Although, I've never actualy heard Portishead.

To tell you the truth, I'd never heard a second of Massive Attack before I bought Mezzanine. It was one of those leaps of faith. Christ, all if that to save a dollar on Ghost Reveries.

Mike- I did too. I commented on it, too. If you want to see what I said, you could try to search function...Keyword crap. Just kidding, man, I actually really liked it quite a bit. I recall really digging the insurmentals. The only thing that I felt was off was the mixing, but that's beside the point. The panned guitar parts were a little high, and the drums were rolled back a bit for my liking.

All in all, I did like it though. Death metal is a hard genre to pull off, nonetheless over the intraweb. :)

NP:Mind's Mirrors, Meshuggah

The feeding frenzy of my starving soul, gnawing voraciously at the bones,
the exo-skeletal patchwork protecting my own reflection within;
The twin-and-same engaged in the mirrored act of chewing away
at the shell of my attacking self. The paradox unseen

Treacherous this deceit to make no choice matter
To have and yet lose yourself, until finally all reasons why are forgotten
To live through ones own shadow. Mute and blinded, is to really see
Eclipse the golden mirror and the reflection is set free

Meshuggah rules. Even new Meshuggah.

About Drum machines on Catch 33- Yeah, but it's not like he does his most technical stuff on Catch 33, though. He could have recorded the tracks, but due to time restraints, they just chose to program them. That is what my understanding of it is.

Only thing is the drum machine part. It makes me think that Haake could be a phony............Catch 33 is the only Meshuggah album that has used a drum machine. It was more of an experiment in repetition that the guitarists conducted. They made the demo with the drum machine they programmed, and eventually decided that since Haake would be able to play the parts live anyway, they mastered the demo and added bass, Jens' vocals, and released it. Tomas Haake is the man, though. Seriously, an impossibly good drummer.

I thought War was actually him. It's not inhuman and I think he could do it. I don't actually think he's a phony, I was just kidding about that and I've seen live vids of them before so, yeah. But I can't think of another drummer that does the things he does as well as he does.

You'd be surprised, the South Park guys know music.

Anywho, there's an episode where Cartman admits he can't leave some things unfinished. So, Stan would just sing "Cooooooome sail awaaaay!" and then Cartman would sing the rest no matter what. It was great.
