What's the story behind the name?
/casual Tool fan
It's a reference to a track on Aenima called "Die Eier Von Satan", which translates from German into "The Eggs of Satan", or possibly "The Balls of Satan".

I like the thread name. It works because it has Tool in the title, so new people can find it. It makes a reference to a Tool song, a less popular one too. It is pretentiously part in german, so all the Tool haters or Tool fan haters we'll think they're right. And when translated to english, it means "the eggs/balls of Tool", which shows that the title is actually very comical and all the Tool haters/Tool fan haters that think it's just Tool fans being stereotypical Tool fans, were completely fooled. Or atleast, that's how I look at it.

Eier literally means eggs, but it is slang for testicles. In the original context, it would translate directly to The Eggs of Satan, but if you consider the slang involved, to us English speakers, it would be The Balls of Satan.
Now, the thread name means The Balls of Tool.
How hXc is that? :-D
Knifeboy

Moses, he doesn't like the growls.
Dried Muffin, get Still Life if your looking for technical acoustic passages leading into all out riffing and sweet growls/clean vocals. Get Deliverance for something not that technical but really brutal sounding, and get Danmation if you want something all clean vocals and really soft and soothing.
Moses
09-06-2005, 08:28 PM
Well there's very little growling in that song, and when it comes in it's just perfect. It's actually the song that kind of made me start craving the growls.
Darkness
09-06-2005, 08:30 PM
It is perfect, I love the growled parts. But theres 2 full verses of it, which may be a bit much. And the melodies during the growled parts and inbetween them are truly awesome.
Dried Muffin Remnants
09-06-2005, 08:30 PM
If you're talking about me, I don't mind his growling.... I just hate brutality. If it's heavy - it better be technical or ambience-laden.
From your description, I think I'll go with Still Life because it seems like the same style as BWP. I think I'd find all acoustic to be boring. I don't mind if a whole album is soft and soothing, but that's just not what I want from Opeth. Don't get me wrong, I like their softer stuff, I just want it blended in with heavy stuff because I like the shift in emotion.

Hablo espanol, entonces, yo se unos hechos que no sabes. :)
Huevos is what Spanish-speaking people say as slang for testicles. It also means eggs, therefore, I'm guessing it's transferable. And it would also make a bit of sense.
Darkness
09-06-2005, 08:35 PM
Wow, thats exactly what happened to me. At first I wasn't to sure (I only heard BWP) and if all their songs only had the growls like that one does, I probably wouldn't have searched. I just get angry when people just come in and say that it means the balls of satan, because it really doesn't. It goes along with my pet peave about uber. It's like, if you know you're using it incorrectly and are doing it anyway, then fine. Within the context of Tool's sense of "humor" on that song, it may mean that, but outside of that I really don't think that's a common use of it among German-speaking people.

Yeah, I can see that. There's a lot of that ignorance amongst Americans. Since I have more of a grasp on Spanish, I guess I'll use an example for that language.
In English, we say "You're pulling my leg"; in Spanish, they actually say "You're pulling my hair", so if you said "you're pulling my leg" in spanish, in the context of someone giving you a hard time, the Spanish-speaking person would be confused.

Ok, I was listening to Deftones' White Pony today and I'm yet again floored by the vocal solo in Knife Party. Every time I hear it I'm just in awe but I'm skeptical because out of all the singers I know (I go to an arts school) only my girlfriend can hit that high of notes, that I've heard (she's a contra soprano). That song that Kage uploaded just now, that song "Change", and I heard another song off White Pony that my bassist let me hear. None really did anything for me, they don't suck or anything their just not really my band.
Someone upload the man Passenger......
It features that one guy from that one band, you know Maynerd somthing...... from .... Tool.

Wow, I honestly never scrutinized White Pony like I do most albums; Now that I am doing so, Digital Bath is amazing. The vocal reverb something or another is amazing. And the samples are awesome as well.

Minerva is a wicked track. I heard it on the NHL 2004 soundtrack, and it was by far the best song on there. Mainly because it was competing with lame pop punk bands. Still an extremely solid track.
Knife, you got me really excited about that band...but the link isn't working
Jake, listening to your soundclick thing now.

There's a "popup" thingie, you have to close by pressing the x, and behind it is the link to download it, I think
Nah, the page just wasn't loading, but now it's working alright. Ah, the irony of the internet.
Jake, your tone sounds really good for the song, but roll back on the bass just a little bit is my only criticism.

Wow, this album really is kickass!
/trying to DL Kashmir stuff
Kage- Allright, that's exactly the kind of thing I wanted to hear. :p I recorded it once with my humbucker pickup, and it sounded really muddy. Maybe it was just the bass, but I'll be sure to see how it sounds with less bass.
Man, I hate Megaupload. I realize it's more reliable/permanent, but it goes so much slower than YSI for me. I need to be heading to bed, so I won't be able to listen to Kashmir until tommorow.

White Pony is one of those albums that you put away for a long time and don't appreciate so you don't get back to it for a long time. Then you listen again and you're floored. Actually that seems like Deftones in general for me.

Deftones are great. Highly underrated band.
Change (In The House Of Flies), Passenger, Minerva, Hexagram, Digital Bath, and My Own Summer are all awesome. I'd really like to pick up White Pony at some point.
Chino Moreno's an all-around great vocalist. I've heard so-so things about his live performances, but when I saw Team Sleep last June, I was completely blown away.

I have a 5 way switch, so I used to neck/middle splitter option. It usually sounds way twangy and jazzy for my taste, but hey, I guess today it had the opposite effect. :p

But like I said, it's the people who think that Eier actually literally translates to "balls" or "testicles" that get on my nerves, not those that realize they are using slang/joking.
Eier are in german balls/testicles and its not a slang, its the common use! in the context of the lyrics from "die eier von satan" it has to be translated to "eggs", but who knows what maynard had in mind when he wrote it... maybe it has a second meaning (equivocal)

Sweet, if I'm generous I'll bring a few friends.
The more I think about it, they can buy their own ticket, I want a conert T-shirt or some other merchandise.

not that it really means anything, but i saw red sparowes last weekend, and asked cliff (from isis) if there was the possibility of a tool/isis tour after they release the album, he said yes, i said mmmmm yes

Faith+1, I must ask. You said your teacher saw them on the Undertow tour? Would this teacher happen to be named Mr.Brubaker?

Ah, you saw Red Sparowes? How were they; I've been dying to see them live. Their debut is one of my favorite albums of this year, or any year.

it was my 6th grade teacher, some how we got on the topic of rock music, and she said she saw tool at the masquerade.

I can imagine quite a few reasons, but why specifically.
I guess forums have been completely erased, basically, due to mass filesharing, via sites like YSI. Some fag user said he would report the site if we persisted, or something, so I guess Jeremy(mx) decided to shut down the YSI threads.

I can't stand megaupload, you can use www.tinyurl.com to make the link that YSI gives you different, and it doesn't block it.

I can use that megaupload link forever, when I want to introduce people to Kashmir, I prefer that, to having to ysi it every time

That's true but YSI should stay for a decent enough time. Megaupload just takes way to long on my comp.
On another note, does anyone want to hear the #1 highschool orchestra in the nation?
http://feeds.feedburner.com/MhsaRadio
They also feature me in a recital last year but I barely could play the song and the recording is really bad so, yeah. I'm Nojus, the first pianist on it. Just click the button in front of the listen button.

And because making that zip again, I forgot to put in one of the songs:

Like I said before, it's the first track on each of their albums..
First album: Jamie fame flame
second: Vote 4 dick tiad
Third: mom in love, dad in space
Fourth: Rocket brothers
Listen to all of them (in that order for maximum effect).. You're bound to like one of the songs.. Hehe

Like I said I could barely play it at the time and one of the parts is even twice as slow as it's supposed to be, but I'll record it better later. Anyway I really suggest listening to the orchestra because it's just really good.

I listened to Kashmir and it seems that they have some Coldplay influence and then some early Tool influence in other places. I liked the Mom in Love, Dad in Space song.

I love the version of 'No Quarter', its amazing.
To the ticket-price: i don't think they will be too expensive. NIN was sold for 30-35€, Slayer was 30€, only black sabbath was for 60€ (but they played together with velvet revolver and black label society as support = 3 great bands)
it depends what support band tool will choose, but i don't expect tickets that will cost more than 40€

My new fravorites from Tool are the live versions of Third Eye and Push'it(Silival). MJK went all out with the vocals, and the others, well, perfect. I like what they've done to Push'it and at the end, MJK sings it amazingly well. He throws his voice up&down making it sound Godlike.
