Off topic, sorry, but im going to be getting some new pickups on my guitar. The ones I have right now are kinda skimmpy since they are stock, they have a hard time picking up any natural harmonics above the 5th fret, and they dont pick up 4th fret pinch harmonics either. So can anyone recomend some good pickups, my guitar carries two double coil and one single. I was thinking about getting some DiMarzio, but im not sure. thanks

Last time I recall them playing Parabol/Parabola on TV was when I heard on Toolband that they played it on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball Special Edition or something.
And Fuse had a thing on APC I didn't watch for some reason (before I was a Tool/APC fan).

I'm a big fan of the Parabola video. The end of it is outstanding.
I doubt they'd ever appear in their own videos.
Syncratic
08-13-2005, 09:52 AM
I don't think that they would appear in their videos because:
1. It's too cliche and overdone.
2. The videos enhance the song, give it a different meaning and a new approach.
Personally, I don't think Tool's videos are boring, just different, fresh, and original.
And, yes, Parabola is a great video.

It better not be...
Disapointing. You might be fooled after the first listen, but when I went back it was terribly obvious. First, the constant crowd noises were unrealistic. Second, not a single mistake or difference from the original Parabola song. He also put a space between the building feedback and the breakout of Parabola, because if that had been there it would've been way too obvious right off the bat.
Is MX going REALLY SLOW right now for anyone else?

i bought the only thing they had there, the dude said it would work on both a CD player and a DVD player. it says DTS surround music on it, but thats like speaking spanish to me.
The salesman most likely had no idea what he was talking about...
You've probably bought the DVD version of deadwing.. (if you have a dvd player with 5.1 surround it'll sound absolutely amazing though)
Trintar_VIII
08-13-2005, 07:27 PM
Yeah that would be awesome to hear it in 5.1. That is, if they make it for surround and the instruments fade in and out of different speakers, not stereo sound in a 5.1 system.
Stereo in 5.1 is still pretty damn sweet, but when a CD is mixed in 5.1, it's amazing. I'd love to hear Deadwing in 5.1, but I don't have that version.

Recently, I’ve been giving you information about the limited edition LATERALUS vinyl (and I’ll have more news about it in a few days), but let’s not forget that that the members of the band are currently in the process of recording a new CD. So, I’m thinking that this would probably be a good subject for the August newsletter (even the little bit of info I’m able to reveal at this time). “EVEN THE BURGERS ARE SECRET” will be the title of this newsletter and I hope to be able to include some photos of the boys doing their thing in the studio. Anyway, that’s the plan… and what’s coming.
About friggin' time!!!

I just skimmed over the last few pages. A few of you were wondering what could get a crowd so riled up when Parabola starts? Well, I have a ton of Tool video's, I'm getting this from the entire New York concert I have, Lateralus tour.
When Parabola starts, there's a slightly longer gap than usual. The stage goes completely dark, then these red lights flood the stage and two of those giant flying ball things from the Parabola video fly up out of the stage and just hang there meters above the band on either side of the stage, and stay there, floating for the entire concert.
Pretty ****ing awesome.
Speaking of their live show, Tool can be SO much better live than on the recordings, and thats saying something. H. is absolutely amazing live when they drag out the "I don't mind!" part, totally intense. And Stinkfist when they postphone the last chorus and have danny do a little intro style drum fill is so sweet. The Grudge is amazing too. Man, all of their stuff kicks so much *** live.
On the New York show... they play this song with lyrics like "Do your best, do what you can!" I searched the lyrics and didn't come up with what song they covered. It sounds pretty poppy/catchy a few powerchords style riff type thing. Maynard says the song is dedicated to.. Joey Addidi? Joey and Didi? I can't remember now, it's upstairs on my old computer, but it was bugging me where the song actually came from.

it says DTS surround music on it, but thats like speaking spanish to me.
DTS discs are used to give high quality surround sound. They are most often used in Cinema's, to give the full surround sound effect. Without them, the movie will only play using the Center, Left and Right channels, and at a reduced quality. As far as I know, a DTS will not play in a standard CD player. It will possibly play in a DVD player, as long as the player has DTS capabilities (talk about stating the obvious  ). I would suggest you return the CD.

I've never had any specific problem with FYE, other than the fact that every thing they sell is about 25% overpriced compared to the next expensive store, so I stopped going there after I bought Rage Against the Machine's S/T for 18 bucks. :-/
Yeah, they're incredibly over-priced. The best CD store around me is CD Werehouse, which is pretty decent. Mainly I use another source, though ;)
Dr. Jake Destructo
08-14-2005, 01:50 PM
:upset: I wish that source (www.slsknet.org) worked better for me, but until then, I have Best Buy. I've been having great luck there lately. Other than the fact that they have a sparse Porcupine Tree collection, their cd selection is solid, and I haven't bought a cd from there for more than 15 bucks.
The main times I buy from Best Buy is when a new release comes out, because they often have them for $10 the first week they come out. :thumb:
Oh, and the source (http://www.amazon.com) I was talking about wasn't slks. :)

I've only got OK Computer, and I decided that I'm not much of a Radiohead fan. I'm probably pre-judging them, but seeing as it's proclaimed as their their masterpeice, I kind of gave up on them.
Interesting. I've never heard of that. Just Thom Yorke with his guitar, huh? I heard a version of There There in that fasion, it was really cool. Different take without the auxillery percussion.
Thom Yorke is awesome as a rhythm guitarist. He always uses really interesting chords.
EDIT: Jake, I was in the exact same position as you when I was first getting into Radiohead. A friend lent me OK Computer, and I was determined to find out what everyone thought was so great about this band. So I listened through OK computer at least five or six times...then it just suddenly hit me and I loved it.

Have you heard their even earlier demo, Conscious? It's a little less developed than Orph, but in a similar style. It's also not quite as varied as Orph. The songs are just pure energy, though, and I love listening to it.

Oh my god, I just d/led the Catch Without Arms album, and parts of it blew me away. The first Dredg release thats done that. This album is really good, they're definately coming into their own.
Odd, because it was the opposite for me. Speaking in terms of their three major-label releases, the only one that didn't blow me away was CWoA. Some songs, such as Bug Eyes, Jamais Vu, Zebraskin, and Sang Real did, but as a whole, not. El Cielo absolutely left me floored, and Leitmotif was far greater than I ever expected it to be.
Shadius
08-14-2005, 06:51 PM
El Cielo was too samey and bland for me in many places (vocally). The songs sounded more similar to each other than Cw/oA and seemed to run together for me. The good songs are good, but a lot of songs sounded too alike, possibly thanks in part to the glossy production. I was left feeling like such and such song was an inferior version of Of the Room, or whatever.
I havn't got Leitmotif in album though, maybe I'd think that was less bland.
They seem to be getting softer though, wonder what they'll do next. The singer is getting better, more range, trying new things.

"Recently, I’ve been giving you information about the limited edition LATERALUS vinyl (and I’ll have more news about it in a few days), but let’s not forget that that the members of the band are currently in the process of recording a new CD. Anyway, that’s the plan… and what’s coming."

I sure hope it's the real deal, but who knows? Only a day away now.
I am hoping so as I have been waiting a LONG time for it. But the bad news is that with only one day away the teleincision site is down.

A picture can say a thousand words. I agree with you on that Ben. That picture of the Lateralus vinyl made me more excited than any of the rumors by far. :p Well, maybe with the exception of my the whole "Maynard liking King Buzzo's sausage" deal.

Supposedly the new DVD. But whether it is true or not is being discussed heavily by Toolophiles. On the surface it could be taken as just another rumor but this one in particuliar had an official site and everything. Only the next 24 hours can tell.
EDIT:Actually all you have to do is call your local music store and they will tell you if they will have it.
DOUBLE EDIT:Which I just did, they don't have it nor will they. I think we can scratch this one off as false guys :upset:

a true tool fan would spell the word true instead of tr00, thus not making you a true tool fan

don't you think we would have heard something from THE BAND if there was a DVD coming out?
Think about this... you want to SELL your product. You don't keep it a secret. If a Tool DVD was coming out tomorrow they'd have put up pre-sale opportunities all over the net by now.

Think about this... you want to SELL your product. You don't keep it a secret. If a Tool DVD was coming out tomorrow they'd have put up pre-sale opportunities all over the net by now. i have had this view from the beggining. i remember waiting for lateralus to come out all excited, and the newer tool fans at the time were making some stupid predictions, much like ones i have seen on this board for there next release, they do stuff in secrecy not stupidity, all these views you guys are throwing out, are false, they are thrown out every time they release something
just think back to 2000 when they released info of the next tool album, it was ALL over the internet on tv Etc. and it WAS as well gaurded as this one, the fact of the matter is they are still under contract, they must abide, if anyone has the guitar legends from 2001 with them in it, you will know about there entire legal issues. YES they have full control, but there is more to it than that. i suggest anyone who wasnt a tool fan until after lateralus to read all the magazines you can about tool prior to that release, you will see that all these crazy "secrecy" predictions have been made before and will keep being made every time tool releases new material.

123. They are secretive, but they wouldn't release a DVD or CD anytime soon without saying.

Not really. Expect the August newsletter soon though. Can't wait to see if there's any type of information Blair can reveal to us. It's funny that no one ever knows what he's talking about and he says that he occasionally drops hints because whenever the album actually does come out, we can probably look back on his postings and see he was hinting at something...or maybe it would still appear too "out there."

I know about the newsletter.
His hints will make a buttload more sense after the album comes out.

Yeah, I said something about this a long time ago. When lateralus was getting recorded and **** they started calling it enchepalitis or something and then when I heard the name lateralus I still thought that is was a fake name.
