Clear's right. People quote it enough when there isn't any Tool news.
We had a discussion on it a while back, I drafted up something, but we didn't really go further with it.

Ready to record us some stinkfist + some aenima :)
Adam Jones is GOD
07-29-2005, 03:40 PM
Heh, need a bass amp first. Which I can hopefully 'borrow' off my friends brother, since he never uses that anymore.
Stinkfist is odd, I was hoping it would follow closely to the guitar (but not a root note fest), yet it alternates all over the place. Im nailing all the basic songs first, work up some familiarity with the ol' lower octave machine
Im tr00 though and playing without a pick, it just seems easier with such large string gaps.

Mines the DXMG. I got it for........hmmmm, I dont remember actually. It was prolly around the £300-£350 mark, btu since I payed monthly for ages, I lost track of the final price. I got it new though, so no massive bargins

What are Deliverence, Orchid and My arms, Your Hearse like?
Adam Jones is GOD

Deliverance is pretty solid, but its the first album that had some tracks I tended to skip.
Orchid and MAYH are Opeth's early stuff btw (unless you meant your comparison to be with Morningrise), and i've not got the chance to hear either yet. Well, apart from Demon Of The Fall, which of course, owns.

Kanye West's album is due around the 20th of August and hasn't leaked yet. If he can keep it tight I'm sure tool can...The eMOTIVE leak was only a week wasn't it? maybe two...

I'm using 3 assorted vocal mics. Two are running through a mixer into a borrowed 8-track piece. The other (bass) is running directly to the 8-track. Then I adjusted sound levels and exported it to my PC upstairs. I loaded it up in Audacity, added bass boost and compression. It was the first time i've done this sort of thing. I think Audacity really boosted the quality, the 3 mic's alone didn't do anything justice. It was flat.
'Neways, i got myself Deloused and FTM from a friend. I'm not even halfway through Deloused and I'm in love.

Frances the mute had some amazing moments, don't get me wrong. I thought it would grow on me, and it half-did, but it dosn't pay back the way a lot of other albums i've worked to like do. Ambience only does so much for me... I prefer music with powerful emotion that I can latch on to. FTM is a lot of wankery, some of it has clear emotion in it, a lot of it dosn't. The songs are too long and winding for me, and they seem terrible at actually finishing a song. That has nothing to do with my attention span, etc. I like a lot of long music, but I like songs that end and they just went too far, I don't think the new album worked well as songs.
To each their own, Deloused was great.

The Mars Volta write screwed up stuff because they want to. They challenge the listener. Tool does the same but without free jazz parts. I personally love The Mars Volta. Frances the Mute is awesome, not because its easy to listen to but because they do stuff that any normal Mexican-American would cringe at the thought of doing.

I think you're actually better off just buying In Absentia. I think it's the perfect introduction to PT's very extensive and very diverse body of work.

I think Gavin's only been in the band since In Absentia, or at least that was the first album he recorded with them. But, I agree. Colin, the bassist, is amazing. His chops are really powerful and, though more subtle in the newer stuff, he really belts out some awesome lines. Richard's keyboards are absouletely mesmerizing and perfect, adding the perfect textures to all the songs. Without him, PT wouldn't be what they are. And, of course, Wilson is a master.

The Creator Has Mastertape is great. The lyrics, especially. And yeah, a really crazy beat, with some incredibly challenging fills.
He also uses odd time very well. The Sound of Muzak has a very interesting verse section in 7/4. Also, the heavy part in Blackest Eyes, in the time of 10, was a huge inspiration for a song I wrote with my band.

Anyone have some of the rare PT albums they'd like to share? I don't exactly have hundred+ dollars just laying around, and I can't find anything really on soulseek either.
Name one, and I'll upload it

Alot of nu-metal bassists are good Jake. Martinie, Sam Rivers, almost any nu-metal group has a hip-hop rhythm section which means the bassist and drummer are usually decent.
Yeah, but none of them have anything on Les Claypool. :p

Ok, you have to realize you're talking about Les Claypool. You could say that for almost and genre and instrument. You could be like metal drummers are pretty good but they got nothin' on Buddy Rich.

Kage, how long of a song is the Russia on Ice one? If it's less than 10 megs, do you think you could upload it for me? I would greatly enjoy it. :-D
Nobody really plays at Carey's level. I'm not saying he's the best, or most technical, as he's far from the top there. He has just devoloped such a distinct, unique style compared to all other drummers. He fuses tabla, jazz, metal, and many other less distinct influences to create such an interesting and textured style that you really can't compare him to other drummers.
Or I could say those guitar virtuosos are pretty good, but they've got nothin' on me

Sure, I might as well download it if it's that good. :p Which album is it off of, just out of curiosity.
It's off of Lightbulb Sun. I don't know, it just blew me away. It's a real epic song, and I love the strings. The whole thing is just mesmerizing. I'll upload it.

Awesome, thanks a lot. I'm going to give in and download this, instead of buying it. If I like it enough, and I come across a reasonable price for it, I'll most likely purchase it, though.
Porcupine Tree - Russia On Ice (from Lightbulb Sun)
One of the best PT songs I've heard, and they're one of my favorite bands. This song is epic and amazing. Enjoy

Awesome song, and the solo sounded ALOT like David Gilmour. YOu can definitely here the Pink Floyd resemblance in their songs.

Someone cryptic and cool should be Maynard. Someone like Edward Norton.
Cool actor, but not really a MJK.
I think we need a hybrid for the guy
