Would it be possible for someone to upload the OK concert? I only had part of the file and then it messed up. I understand the amount of time it takes to upload such files, and that's fine if nobody can. However if someone is willing to do this and has the time to, I would appreciate their efforts very much.

Gimmicks suck.
Indeed, but when a band has one it doesn't bother me too much as long as the music's good.
For instance, I can't stand ICP's music, and there gimmick makes it 10 times worse. Plus, I love Slipknot, but I'm not going let the fact that some kids love those masks more then the music ruin it for me.

Hey dude, some interesting points there. Didn't maynard say the song wasn't about god and jesus? I know this doesn't affect your interpretation but to get the 'true' meaning sureley we have to look somewhere else. I find this incredibly hard when in the lyrics it mentions crosses
Well int he first stanza you picked out the lines 'he had alot to say, he had alot of nothing to say' i find these lines could talk about Martin luther king (now to be called MLK) You see he tried to change or reform america into a non racist nation. He had many things to say, which may have become reptitive, hence maynards contradiction.
The next point i recieved from this guy called 'mstajduh' on the toolshed forums. in the line 'We need the f*ckin space to nail the next fool martyr the explanation the guy gave was "He was the one doing the nailing his 95 thesis on the corrupt catholic church in wittenburg" this makes sense, Maynard could be using a complex metaphor, but maybe im mistaken. These are the two main arguments i have. Has anyone got any othe rideas on 'eulogy'?
I just figured it was about bill hicks, mainly cause im a retard- i dont even know if hes dead. btw, anyone with info about him POST IT i want to learn about him.

i have been a big fan of tool for a long time now and im really pumped about this thread i think most of us could agree that we have a different fave tool song frequently well i do anyway haha and right now my fave is a combo of 3
disposition
reflection
triad
disposition
in its essence this could make hulk hogan weep this song is about listening opening your ears and just listening "watch the weather change" songs can be related to colors or textures thats what weather is if you think about it a song like disposition makes me feel very valnerable much like having nothing to do on a rainy day so you could either "mention somthing mention anything"
or just watch the weather change somtimes watching and listening are better than mentioning anything thats how that song makes me feel
reflection
reflection sounds a bit like disposition except more explorable more texture perhaps a it is a "reflection" of its own "disposition" almost like seeing yourself in the mirror and thinking i better "pull my head out before its far too late" meaning loose wait get ripped whatever "crucify the ego" let your ego be what makes you beutiful if you have no ego than you also have little room for ignorance and you will not have to "hide away" a reflection shows you what is to become or what can be done dont hide away
triad
triad meaning three. guitar players also have another meaning
pne is to little twice is not enough 3 super thats why its called the three little bears triad is an explosion of musical expression and color this song is truly remarkable in the fact that its texture can subistitute the patience for lyrics
my feeling of triad is that without its place in the three of what are disposition reflection and triand you cannot read between the lines(songs)
and see your own "reflection" of this or any other tool album
again thankyou for creating this thread it;s great to share thoughts like these

You're probably a more than coherent in person but we can't understand alot of what you're saying if you don't punctuate and capitalize. Good grammar and spelling also help you to become a little more respected around here.

Adam Jones on my space?
Check the whiteboard pic...
The legitimacy is questionable. Though Chet Zar, the artist, has a legitimate myspace account and he posted a comment. However he could just be playing along with the prank.
He also posted a comment on Chet's MySpace which apparently sounds like something Adam would say according to some of the toolshed members.
----Not from his HEAD but all from his HEART----this gentleman is one of my Heros. Chet is a living example of one of those people who, whatever they do - they do amazingly well. Multi-talented MOFO in the many areas of the art universe. I have known Chet a long time. He is a great guy who I admire beyond words. Chet's art is beautiful & scarey. His style has a modren twist crashing into a classical approach. I think Chet is a Master painter - on his way to making a great mark in our little world. ----Wanna do something smart with your money? ------ Invest in a Chet Zar painting! -----'Way back when'- Chet & I used to work together doing crappy FX movies & playing music. Chet plays guitar & has a great singing voice . I remember when I played Chet the very pre-cold n ugly riff and he said something like "god man, when I hear that I envision the largest army coming over the crest of a mountain & runnig down into battle..." So EVERY TIME I have played cold n ugly, I always think of Chet's words that drive me so hard to the end of the song. -Thanx dude *

LATERALUS VINYL INFORMATION
I've a bit of an update on the Lateralus vinyl. As it now stands, the release date is still slated for AUGUST 23rd. However, the plan is to make a certain number of pre-sale copies available exclusively on the Tool websites. Unfortunately, the exact date hasn't yet been determined, although I hope to be able to post this soon. In addition, there will be a very LIMITED EDITION of copies that are autographed by the band members. As I understand it, this will involve a special process so that the signatures (each record being individually signed) will be on the record, itself, as opposed to the album jacket. I would imagine that these limited edition holographic copies will cost more, but I don't yet have information about the exact price or number of copies that will be made available on the site. As soon as these details are worked out, I will let you know.

You loved Lateralus the first time you heard it? ****. It took me many, many listens before I really 'got' it, but that's great to read about a new Tool fan. They have 3 other cds. 2 LPs: Aenima and Undertow. 1 EP: Opiate. I honestly think Lateralus is their best work to date, but many fans think that Aenima is their best. It's really a great album too. Undertow is a pretty good cd too. IMO, there are no great tracks, just a bunch of good and solid tracks. Opiate is Tool at the infant stage and I like it quite a bit. It's a bit more metal than anything they did after. Still pretty good.

My rhythm tone in the latter sections is pretty pants. I think the general playing is ok, apart form the lead section, but that's pretty tricky to get sounding right.

i understand that...but why are you using a flanger if you dont want aeroplane spinning sound. If you listen to the intro of AINT talking bout love - van halen...
its a flanger, and its the aeroplane spinny noise. I have an ibanez fl-9 flanger, which is good btw, and if you want a flanger sound, it will sound like that. If you turn the the regen, and another knob (forget the name) it sounds like a chorus....
u talking about the intro? if it IS a flanger, he prolly just sets the regen up insane like, and doesnt pan the sound

Positives:
The solo section is done really well, (finally, someone who isnt afraid to improv it :) )
Saying that, improv is good throughout
There are some moments where the flange comes through really well.
Improvements (its not failure, its delayed devleopment)
The guitar doesnt come through well enough in the mix at times (intro especially).
Too quiet during the cleaner section.
The bass and drums suck. (he never posts, so he wont know :) )

Okay, well anyone else hear it?
Mr Herb
07-28-2005, 10:07 PM
I am listening to it, its good id say but it has to much echo or something on some parts, other than that its pretty good.
Moses

Really? Too much? I can fix that but I didn't think it was too much.

Moses: DL-ing
Where's the deadline posted? what is this comp about anyway, and is there a thread I can see? If the deadline's the first, we best get crackin. I know lateralus and Stinkfist both have drum tracks. Get poppin guitar and vocal types.
EDIT::: Moses, great work, the whole Lateralus track sounds really really good.
the part before the breakdown is shakey though, strained.
Oh and I just remembered rounder and matter probably have stuff lined up.
Mr Herb

I think it was too muh during the verse mostly but wait tilll someone else gives their take on it and see what they say :thumb:
Moses

Thanks alot. Still has some parts that need work but I think, Ben, who is supposed to be mixing it can fix that or else I can just redo it.
Expresso are you talking about the "I embrace my" part?
Matter
07-28-2005, 10:42 PM
Moses> Vocals are to loud me thinks...verses sound good...off key and a little floaty on certain parts. Like expresso says you sound strained on the heavier parts like you are singing from your throat and not your diaphram. Overall pretty good though you got ballz for taking on a challenging song. Whos doing bass???
Moses
07-28-2005, 11:08 PM
It is overall too loud, but that can be fixed. Certain parts I will redo because I know I was off key on the "feel the rhythm" part among other. The end I'll probably redo because I was actually sitting down when recording and didn't breath enough and pushed through my throat which was a bad idea. I don't usually record vocals so when I'm singing in band practice I naturally use my diaphram, but since I was sitting down I didn't notice it. Thanks, because I know exactly what to redo now.
On another note, my next Classical Education thread is going up soon so, y'all better give that a look or two.
Mr Herb

I just noticed singing on apc's brena is similar at times to that of the patient.nice.
Moses

I think Maynard sounds best on Parabol because of the control he has at that volume and how he moves his voice is just compelling.
Mr Herb
07-28-2005, 11:45 PM
Yeah that Aliveeeeee I part is great.
Erm diffficulty wise, in what song does mayanrd best show off his talent?
Moses
07-28-2005, 11:46 PM
I'd say Eulogy or Pushit.
Mr Herb

Overall, Maynard's APC vocals are very different, but in a very subtle way, from his Tool material.

Maybe The Grudge, if only for his amazing scream.

yeh you can tell its maynard but they still hit you differently from tool vocalss
Moses

His APC vocals are alot more extroverted. Also they are a little bit more showcased.
Also it's probably not Ticks and Leeches because screaming is actually pretty easy. Also he was screaming wrong since he lost his voice for about three weeks.

Ive also found that during apc shows his voice falters more frequently than it does at tool shows.

The state of APC's activity right now is very questionable, to say the least. Another release anytime soon, even something that would just have to be edited before releaes (i.e. concert footage), is really doubtful. Maynard with Tool, Jeordie with NIN, everyone doing they're own thing. Sad, but they all have their commitments. And at least it means some new Tool soon.

I'm really starting to get into Lateralus. What is the deal with Faaip De Oiad? What is it about? I can't understand what he is saying through all the static. That song creeps The **** out of me.
Mr Herb
07-29-2005, 12:25 AM
lolness. The song is a supposed recording of a call a man made to a radio show concerning supposed aliens or ****he saw or something at area 51. http://toolshed.down.net/lyrics/latmaster.html

Moses, it was a great attempt. Just a few pointers...
-The double tracking in the verse frustrates me for some reason, it really doesn't sound right.
-The first aggressive part was a great attempt, though i think your pitch went a little at the end.
-The second aggressive part; do you need to sing it aggressivley? I think it may sound beter sung normally up untill the 'spiral out, keep going' bit where you can crescendo up to it.
-Sometimes you sing through your nose, which really doesn't sound good. Though this may be because you were sitting down as you have already explained.
-Maynards voice seems to be well in the background of all his songs, I don't really know how to recreate this, I have thought about standing further away from the mic, You seemed to nail it at the start of the 'over thinking..' parts, which I have to say were done very well. Maybe you could try and nail this sound the whole way through except for the aggressive parts?
-I suppose the last point is to do with the mixing, which needs to be looked at. Though the echo after the first aggressive part was great!
Woah that was pretty huge...
Other people listen to my stinkfist recroding plzkthx...whore ++

I found a little info on the bootleg DVD...what songs are on it and such: http://shop.vendio.com/frank1701/item/658388361/?s=1122286379 (Note this isn't the big DVD that's supposed to be out in August.)
Edit: Clearvision -> sounds pretty good to me...it sounds very close to the real thing. One part seemed a little off at 3:20, though. Other than that, it all sounds spot-on.

Thanks for the pointers everyone I'll definately take out the double tracking in the verses and stand up when I sing.

And fine, don't comment on my long comment about your vocals :p

Fix'd after I read the whole thing.
The fact that Lateralus doesn't have bass really bugs me.

Im beginning to see that guitarist dont make great natural bassists. I keep expecting the fret gaps to be smaller.

Why don't you take out the guitar instead? Take the guitar out, mix it with my drum track, all that we would lose is bass, and i'm positive we can work something out.

i can mix those two parts fine, as i have my guitar parts on my computer. I just need a bass part so i can mix properly :)
EDIT : I want a bass, I'm so bored i'm reading HP and the goblet of fire, with eyes set on the order of the pheonix :(
I gave up on discworld, they were getting repetitive and farcical.
