aguy at my school was expelled for growing weed in his locker. He had a heater, lamp, and fertilizer in there. It was pretty obvious seeing how there was light constantly coming out of his locker. Let alone the smell.

Man, at my school, so many people get booted for carrying weapons, it's insane.
and they all come to my school :thumb:

we have all the kids that were expelled at my school (including me, but thats because i just never showed at my first high school ) in out cunstruction class some kid took a **** in a non operational toilet, and left it in the class room overnight, we all had to get tested for hepatitis before we could return, the school food was ex-laxed, and a picnic bench was turned on top of a janitors carolla, not much damage, but still stupid.

This is the kind of music we strive to write in Crutch. Stuff that moves people. The greatest compliment ever would be to see some people discussing how the music I make causes them to get goose bumps or causes the hair on the back of their neck to stand up.

One thing that is really cool with Crutch is some of the lyrics I have written mean totally different things to whomever reads it. I have yet to have anyone tell me what the song means when they read the lyrics and this is what I strive to do. Write something that someone can get in touch with on a personal level.

Lateralus, Aenima, or Third eye. Those 3 songs do wonder for me. These songs, Third eye especially, will set me into kind of a trance.

Does any one else do this? Just close their eyes and absorb their music. I did this today during thrid eye. It scared the hell out of me. About 11 mintes in my toes to my lower ribs went tense, and my entire body was shivering. During this i saw an eye, that opened up and stared at me, funny how i was listening to third eye eh? But i can still vividly remember the eye. Man i must sound like a lunatic here :p All of this happened untill i opened my eyes. Then i was calm, relaxed and completely warm, (it was a very hot day).

The thing alot of you guys are not picking up on is this. As powerful as their music is, the things they are writing about are truly phenominal. Learning how to Mantra, move your Star Tetrahedrons, create a Merkaba, transend. This is what really got me into Tool. I was researching Metaphysics and BAM, I hear them singing about it. I connected with them on a musical and spiritual level.

When people come to Crutch's studio one of the first things they do is usually check out the book collection, it is a collection I study and study and have learned mass amounts of information from.

<verse1>
Tragedy seems to follow me
The darkness is always near
Consuming me while awaiting to free the vine
Silent witness to the shock, horror, and pain
Chaotic images dance within, while I am both dead and awake at once
Emotions, only visible to me, assimilate into my body becoming a burden I cannot relieve

<chorus 1>
Why do you try to stop this?
Why do you want to delay the inevitable?
Why do you ****ing try?
Why do you ****ing try?
Sit down and realize this is beyond you.
For once come to bear that your not the savior you once thought.

<verse 2>
I watch as your precious’ journey is revealed
The vine has ruptured
The scab begins to form
Total darkness, nothing else
The metamorphosis begins
The Aura surrounds me, baths me, absorbs itself into me
I am here, the only one.

<chorus 2>
Why do you try to stop this?
Why do you want to delay the inevitable?
Why do you ****ing try?
Why do you ****ing try?
Sit down and realize this is beyond you.
For once come to bear that your not the savior you once thought.

<verse 3>
Levitation departs you from your familiar surroundings
They violently tear at the scab
Trying to prolong the inevitable for their own temporary comfort
Faces, screaming emotions, contorted with pain are silent now
<bridge>
I am here
In the darkness
Living within this Sea of Judgment
Neither living nor dead for eternity
Am I here as your savior?
How can you mean anything to me?
Am I the one to lead you to your path?

The song continues but I have to keep the ending of the song a secret publicly. Now, from this you should be able to get an idea of what I wrote this song about. Lets see how ya do!

You wrote the lyrics before the music? I always do that afterwards.
We write a little different than most. Sometime one of us will have a riff idea and well build on it. What we usually do is talk about what we want the song to be about and describe the emotions involved with it. Then well chart these emotions and start putting them to music.

Example. Say your writing about someone getting pissed off.

You would think of all the emotions involved with it. You have the feeling of normalcy before the event happens so this is where the song starts. You then have the act of what it is that pisses you off, that goes into the realization of what happened. You now have the reaction, which can be violent or aggressive. After this you have regret for what you did (if your regretful) or you have an elation of emotion from being happy by how you responded.

It all depends on how you want the song to flow and what you are writing about. We will chart out the above process and make these emotions come out through our instruments. So, you would have normalcy, suprise, violence or aggression, regret or elation, and however you want to end the song.

Lyrics are written for 2 purposes. We select the wording in ways to compliment the song with the harmonics of the words. THe 2nd edge of the lyrics is to give some clues as to what the song is about.

It's a long process but in the end I think people will really be able to connect with the music.

Moonlight Shining Past The Pitch Black Diamond

Softly
Like a seeping stream
The moonlight
Dances by the
Opaque and black
Looking back to the ignorance
Missing out on
Such a gem

Calumny was predicted
They don’t see you as the true paragon
Acquaintances from past times
They misread the signs from the start.

Hi guys.

I tried doing an Astral Projection last night. Too bad I failed. I was listening to Lateralus, and right when the "Spiral Out...Keep....Going" started, I started getting that feeling of Sleep Paralysis. I had it in my hands and lower legs. I felt really light, and wasn't worrying about anything. I need to keep trying. Its a good sort of meditation, and maybe one day I'll be able to have some OBE.

Don't you find it weird that when you try to concentrate and 'project', you focus around your Third Eye?

You didn't need to actually hear their new material to know that that's what it's going to sound like. Danny Carey was quoted as saying, "it still has quirky tempo changes", i.e. little twists. And we already know it's heavier. So this could have come from anybody.

It would be one of the greatest accomplishments in musical history to make Lateralus, an album considered the best of our time if not the actual best, and then make something even better.

Something does tell me however this album will be nothing short of amazing, though I'm trying not to be optimistic because no matter how good it is I'm going to have to listen to it multiple times to get into it. If I get my hopes up my first impression might be bad and I might dismiss it right away.

Lateralus was actually a dissappointment to me, at first... surprisingly enough. I thought that Aenima was perfection and then I heard Schism and was VERY dissapointed. Schism is actually one of my favorite songs now. Maybe the new Tool album will have that same effect.

I hope they don't do the 5 epic song thing, though. While I enjoy Frances the Mute at times, I can't listen to it for too long. I need some contrast with shorter, more melodic songs.

clearvision
07-24-2005, 04:43 PM
I rate aenima higher than lateralus, because aenima progresses through the album.

You have your really rocky song like stinkfist eulogy and H. then it moves through to really pregressive epics like Push!t and third eye. But you hardly notice the change, it flows so well.

Whereas lateralus seems to start heavy, then drift away. It then comes back and hits you with parabol/a and ticks before fading away with D/R/T

If that makes any sense.

I know it has been mentioned, but everyone should check out the following bands that sound kind of similair.

Oceansize - manchester based prog. Their debut 'Effloresce' is quite frankly great. I hits you on first listen, but still retains replay value. Vocals are intersting and musicianship is great. The band make a very dreamy sound, without drifting into meaningless prog, they keep their songs as songs, unlike some bands take floyd for example...

Cog - Australian based rock/prog. Their Just visiting EP's are available on their sit. http://www.cog.com.au (i think), and their album, released this year, titled 'the new normal' is hot stuff too. Cog are heavier than oceansize and more 'to the point' if you will. However they are slightly different from your normal listenings. Again vocals are top stuff, guitar work is pretty riff based and reminds me alot of jones' work.

I will do uploads if required, though not tonight :)

It'll tie in real well with their 'Think for yourself, question authority' message.

I refuse to take one because I believe they shouldn't be such the representation that they are. A teacher at my school got refused a job he wanted simply because another teacher had a higher IQ. That kind of stuff is wrong, and they should find a better method for that kind of stuff.

I was really mad about what happened at my school.

If you want to try a more reliable (and a bit longer) test.. go to http://www.iqtest.dk , as opposed to the other one, this one isn't trying to sell you anything.. And it's created by the danish mensa society.
It's time based, you have 40 minutes, but it doesn't give you more points for finishing prematurely

It only tests your logic IQ, not maths, or language IQ
