Marshall- I know what you mean. All of the riffs are simple sounding, but they're very complex, due to the time they are in. It's definitely one of Tool's "musician" songs.

The best thing about the podxt is if I sit by my computer with my guitar in my hand, and suddenly gets an idea I want to record, I just turn on my podxt, press "ctrl+alt+c" (my shortcut to cool edit), press "ctrl+alt+g" (my shortcut to guitar pro, for editing tones) and voila, recording

Schism is easy to learn, but playing the entire song is a huge feat. So many parts, and so many time signature changes. My advice is just learn it piece by piece or it will probaby get to complicated.

playing it perfect does make it difficult, so you cant say it is easy to learn, most people can get the drop of the snare hits. and the ending is very intimidating to newer drummers.

The ending is the funnest and easiest part of the song!

When I say learning I kinda meant having the ability to play the parts, and not the entire song say with a band. That makes the song very difficult, but I don't think it is if you take it in pieces.

In my experience the best way to learn Schism is to actually pick up the strings and learn the bass guitar parts. Now, I didn't say you don't have to be good at them, just know them all. Transcriptions are fine for the verses and the last 30 seconds, but for the very tricky time parts before and after the quiet bridge, knowing what the strings are doing will help out alot.

That and having your band play schism with you.

Yeah the bridge is very electronic, you can learn the hits but it probably won't add anything special to your playing.

That different snare sound you guys are hearing on the TOOL song schism is a flanger effect...listen to the song again you can hear it on the entire drum track, plus the cymbals on some parts have the effect over them...actually my bro R0und3r says he hears it on a few of the bass and guitar parts as well. the first crash hit at around 1:20 proves you are correct..... it still sounds fake that he tunes his snare drum to notes, and plays bass notes on his snare. cause clearly he doesnt hit the snare during the hammering of schism, as i said before that rumor was created by non-drummers.

as for the flanging that can be entirely true. hell you can do that in cool edit.

with different recording programs its pretty basic, hi lite section you want to add effects to, then add em. same way you can add reverb to tracks.

guys, Ive been working alot lately but where are all the Tool songs that you guys are supposed to be doing???. I work about 70 hours a week and manage to get 2 Tool songs done. You guys got like 3 per song. come on b1tches!!!!

oh yeah, we just finished Eulogy (don't worry, not for the thread cover comp, this one is for the rock&metal july metal cover comp) but we've recorded a vid of Matter playing the drums during the recording session. thought you guys might enjoy it. Its a .wmv so its best if you have broadband and Windows media player.

Hmm....well the reflection by my head is monitor from my comp on the plexiglass shield in front of my drums... the blinking light next to my head is the reverb unit and the green bars near my shoulder are the track levels for the mics and guitars on the mackie hard-drive.

in my mind this is saying that jesus never ascended because he never admitted to his sins and that maynard is sarcasticly basicly saying he doesnt care.. the line for your sins and your lies might refer to the lies of the church or the idea that religion is for the weak that need to follow something i might be wrong but this is what i get out of the line
