Don't worry. I have enough confidence in you. I haven't heard a note of singing from you though, but just saying that you can sing Tool is impressive enough for me. :D

Anyways, you're going to have to really tinker with it for a while. Don't effect it too much. Just a little echo or reverb will make it good enough. You're not going to get pristine quality out of a computer mic and Audacity. (Sad, but true.)

the 58's are for vocals, the 57's are for instruments (usually just live) there are much better mics, but for $80 you cant beat it.

shures are good mics but are easily beaten(value wise) by carvin microphones.

http://www.carvin.com/products/single.php?ItemNumber=CM68&CID=MIC

this mic's frequency response is 5hz lower than the sm58. and check out the prices and features on there other mics (great drum mics too!!).

Che Guevara if you want one that does everything, pick up one neumann mic  they have the ONLY vocal mic that can be used for everything (including a bass drum)....just save up a weee-bit more

I wouldn't stress on it too much, if they are just small mistakes. Most people won't even notice if you are in time, and on cue. Even if there are people that do notice your mistakes, you can just tell em you were doing a little bit of improv. There's absolutely no shame in that. I do it all the time.

I tried singing while I was driving today. Dear jesus, it's hard to get any 'distortion' out of my voice without it cracking. I can sing on key, but when it comes to adding any sort of harsh sound to it, it's like puberty all over again. :-/

Like I said from Undertow- Prison Sex and 4 Degrees. the intro to Prison Sex is awesome. I read how to do it too- First, you need to have your guitar in drop B. (Grr) Then you take the whammy bar, 'unwhammy' it and then pluck the strings. It'll sound like they're just flopping there. The you rewhammy it to make it sound like it's 'accelerating' or something

From Opiate, I gotta say I like Sweat, Part of Me, and the Gaping Lotus Experience. :D

Well the Part of me vox was mostly crap because of the reverb, I'd do it again but I don't even think that we'll be doing that song anyway. So far I haven't gotten anything down, my family needs to get out of the house first.

Also if you think my screams are decent we should do Ticks and Leeches.

I think you should re-record it once Faith+1 gets his track recorded and uploaded. You should play along to that so that everything is sync'd and as good as possible. :thumb:

Rob-Mic recording is far superior. Problem solved. :D

On a serious note, try using different programs, or recording at a different speed. I am having a terrible latency issue right now. I need a new sound driver. If my answer doesn't help, check out the Jam Session section. Moaner or Moseph will have an answer for you in no time at all. :D If you don't already have Audacity, I would reccomend DLing it. Hey...

I'm surrently working on aenima, i have a sketchy backing track put together by JoZ...I'm sure he'll re-record when he gets some time...It'd be great if you could lay down a vocal track for me...

I have attempted to lay one down, but I really couldnt get the chorus right and my positioning of the mic was very very bad. I've had a few mailing list updates that are interesting. Gimmie a sec, ill post some

"It was reported today that Tool's dvd will be released
July 26th. The name will be simply TOOL LIVE In addition to the live music
there is a movie on it. The movie was said to be in the style of Pink
Floyd's "The Wall". There are 6 songs in the movie. These are not songs that
will be on their upcoming cd. The article also stated that they have been
working on this since the days of Aenima. Running time is 66 minutes.
Rolling Stone said that they will have a full review of it in the next issue
of their magazine. RS says the information came from a guy who works at the
company manufacturing the dvd. They didn't believe him initially until he
sent them a copy of it. I forgot the link but you can just search it on
their web page. I am sure we will have a post from the band by tomorrow in
light of this news."

Well, I'm not really sure what to think. This does seem possible, but until
we get official confirmation on this, please take this news with a grain of
salt. It was already said in the February Newsletter that the live DVD would
probably after the new album, so stay tuned for more on this... -EyeChakra

as eyechakra said, it seems possible, it would explain why the dvd has taken
ages to be released, and i remember blair said awhile back in the feb
newsletter that the dvd is still being edited and will be released after the
new album, along with some other special treats that have been in the works
for awhile, maybe he was referring to this 6 song music video movie thing.

Actually, that also kind of reminds me of how they put Third Eye at the end of Aenima.

Aenima was a pretty ****ing angry album, and third eye bridged the gap towards their Lateralus-era spirituality.

So I was at FYE today looking at cds, came across Tool, and the first CD in there was "A piano tribute to Tool". It was interesting, very haunting, mainly because of the lack of any other instruments. There was also a classical gothic tribute to Tool, or something to that effect, not as good though...
How'd that Piano one sound? And what tracks are on it? I think that would be interesting...if done properly...

Yeah, i've heard that staind cover. I don't think it was acoustic though (it might be, I don't remember clearly). Nothing too great...I didn't think so anyway. Limp Bizkit also did a cover of 'Opiate', I think...Nothing too great there either.

Staind's version is far too slow. Aaron should have done a good job of it, given his voice, but he struggled.

And please, never post the link to Fred 'The Shred' Durst butchering any tool ever please

by the way the OK show is ok, danney proves that hes actually a human being by ****ing up the solo to 46 and 2 on that vid

What video is this, I have 2 Live 46 & 2 clips One from New York and the other im not sure where it is, just has "Tool - 46 & 2 - (HI-RES) 06-08-01 Live in Concert bootleg" if that is'nt the same as your one, whats the video like incase we have same vid with diff names, i want to see him stuff up :P

B.t.w - Does anyone else think the people that video tape these shows have absolutely no idea about the songs because all they do i leave the Recorder on Maynard while the best parts of the intruments are missed, i dont mind seeing the singer but we see him 95% of the time.

I'm very pissed about my latency issue. Now it's like 'what's the point of recording something if you can't use it for anything other than gutiar?'

Hey Ben, how did your attempt at recording end up? I never heard.

Rob- Why is the file 10 mbs? Is it like 10 minutes, or is it just at a super high bit rate?

Adam Jones is GOD

I think its the video, hence the large size.

And my recording never happened, since I left for download before I could do so, and on my return, everything had been moved away (mic, wires, etc)

I don't know it's 6:53 long so probably something to do with the bit rate.

I'm still struggling to find time to sit and record, i always get tired and end up sleeping, or going out...I may record it in sections, that way it'll be easier :-*

Its not too bad but of course the self is the greatest critic, I just know i can do a bit better but again...singing in my apartment bedroom isnt comfortable with me ...I think too much about my neighbors. Anyways.. gotta run. be back soon

Everyone who has ever recorded A Tool show needs to be taken out back and shot exocution style. They always film maynard during drum solos and ****.

that vid is the OK part 1 vid. I found it on Lime. He ****s up the drum solo of 46aand2. Actually it looks like hes tring to improv something on the spot, and gets out of time with the song. August 16th, that sounds a little too soon for their album to come out. I mean, it could happen(and I really REALLY wish it would happen), but it seems like there really hasen't been enough news on the album for it to be released so soon.
Teleincision.
It sounds mental. It could be the title.
It is always Tool though. They probably would like to release it more unexpectaly.

It would be awesome if it came out my birthday. But it is too soon :upset:

i made the little solo thing he does like at 7:10 really wierd, instead of planning out what he did, i just hit everything i could as fast as i could :D and right before the drums start again you can hear it cut(yes... i recorded in 2 pieces :upset:) im sure there is some way to nock it off or cover it up

I've not heard anything other than Be Yourself and their newest single. I like their new single's solo. It's pretty cool. I still don't think Audioslave comes close to touching the greatness that was Rage Against the Machine. :(

yes and no I think. You can hear a lot of musical resemblence in audioslave to Rage in many songs. some times i think its rage what am listening to. its just watered down and with wholy diferent vocals and very diferent lyrics, i dunno what tha hell Cornell writes about on audio.

The remblences are understandable, you got rage minus Zach plus Cornell.... its gonna sound a bit the same.

Either that or a real bad gimmick.

About Tool touring, I think they're doing a mini tour with Isis, and they'll probably tour with Meshuggah again, since they may have coinciding tour dates...Oh, and if Pink Floyd do a full blown reuinion tour, it would literally make my lifetime to see them on stage together. :D

I wouldn't be so certain about the Isis thing, BW. It very well could be what Blair intended with the whole code equation thing, but Blair is a wierd dude, so you never know. Don't get your hopes of quite that much. I bet it will happen though.

Could someone upload some Isis for me? I've been dying to hear them, and every effort I've made has failed as of yet. Darn.

I think a Mudvayne and Tool concert wouldn't be nearly as cool as seeing Tour with a band closer to Tool's talent level. :p Ryan Martinie is a talented guy, but the rest of the band...eh

With a lot of softer stuff, kind of like the lighter, more atmospheric and sometimes eerie side of Porcupine Tree, but without the psychedelia.
