I decided to drop out on vox, because I simply don't like the way I sound when singing Tool. If we need to, I have a friend who'll do it, but like I've said that may defeat the purpose/be against the rules in the new competition because he's not an Mx member.

Besides, I think we're going to let letmypeopleho do the vocals. So what songs do you want to do, ho? I really want to do Stinkfist, but whatever other song you want to do will be cool. I'll do my guitar parts for maybe one or two songs tommorrow, and hopefully you'll do your vocals as well, and we'll get this thing rolling.

Dr. Jake Destructo
05-30-2005, 07:49 PM
Then we'll finally have one complete song.

Anyways, LMPH, do Stinkfist, Sober, and Part of Me as soon as you can. Those three seem to be farthest into production. Part of Me already has everything but vox, Kage is working on the guitar to Stinkfist, which will make everything but vox, and I'm working on Sober, which will be everything but vox, I think.

Can someone YSI JoZ's Sober for me, pleeeease.

Kage
05-30-2005, 07:57 PM
Yes, that's an issue we need to address. Not that Joz's recordings aren't good, but I REALLY want real drums on this. Ken was going to do drums, but he hasn't been here in forever, and we're hoping possibly Sliptallica or Faith will do drums for us.

Joz does all the bass.
We have MIDI drums as of now. :p (Ken said he would do it all, but he has sort of...not done it)
KurrptSenate did the guitar on Part of Me.
Kage is doing the guitar for Stinkfist
I'm doing the guitar for Sober
LMPH is doing the vox.

We need a Lateralus song. What can you play from Lateralus, Remedy?

Kage
05-30-2005, 10:40 PM
Well whos doing what for now. Such as Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums.
Here're the lineups as I've gathered so far:

Stinkfist:
Guitars - Kage
Bass - JoZ
Drums - Remedy, Faith, or Sliptallica (?)
Vocals - letmypeopleho, or POSSIBLY Kage

Sober:
Guitars - Jake
Bass - Joz
Drums - Remedy, Faith, or Sliptallica (?)
Vocals- letmypeopleho

Part of Me:
Guitars - kurrptsenate
Bass - JoZ
Drums - Remedy
Vocals - letmypeopleho (?)

Yeah, I updated the list. If there's anything else, just tell me, so we can have a solid list of what we're doing.

We still need real drums on Sober and Stinkfist, so the first person to speak up will get dibs on those. If anyone else can do it, it's first come first serve for the drum parts.

I'm assuming that LMPH will be okay with doing vocals on those songs as well, so I'm keeping him there unless he tells me otherwise.

Stinkfist:
Guitars - Kage
Bass - JoZ
Drums - Remedy, Faith, or Sliptallica (?)
Vocals - letmypeopleho, or POSSIBLY Kage

Sober:
Guitars - Jake
Bass - Joz
Drums - Remedy
Vocals- letmypeopleho

Part of Me:
Guitars - kurrptsenate
Bass - JoZ
Drums - Remedy
Vocals - letmypeopleho

And of course, our mixer for all of this will be Ben, a.k.a. AJIG.

Shouldn't we leave this thing open, setting up line-ups is a bit wierd...

We know JoZ is doing bass, ken is doing drums, and whoever does vox is doing them...

If we can get those 3 laid down, guitarists can just lay their part down over the top. I can play all of the songs, it's just getting the tone and time to sit down and work at something. (exams are over in a week :D)

I have been on hiatus for months, my revision started early this year...

/no life

When people are recording are they changing their tone? Like from clean flange + delay to distortion etc? 'Cause my FX pedal is so sh!t i can only really play with one tone...Unless i record clean and you can jazz up my part with effects ben? Is that what you mean by mixing? Or just putting the parts together

Adam Jones is GOD
05-31-2005, 06:29 AM
I mean by putting together bass, guitar and drums, levelling out the sound so they all compliment, layering sections that are needed, cleaning up any fuzz, sorting out correct panning, and other tweaks.

However, I might be able to add some effects, but its something i've not done before. You could ask Jake, as he uses Audacity effects a bit with his tone, so he might offer some advice.

And while exams are the subject, I wish you and any other exam takers the best of luck (thank god im past all them now)

I've seen APC live twice and at both shows I was blown away. "The Noose" was beautiful and so was "3Libras". But of course, a fan favorite is always "Judith". They put on a great show. I saw them at the halloween show back in 03 where Maynard was dressed as "Shakes the Clown". I've also seen Tool live and though I'd pick Tool over APC, I must say that even their show didn't top the APC halloween performance.

As for eMOTIVE and aMOTION, I personally prefer eMOTIVE. I actually like the album very much. I don't listen to it as often as I listen to Mer de Noms or 13th Step but I don't think it's that bad of an album. I think it's one of those albums that you can't get into on the first listen, though. I had to spin it a few times to finally say "oh, I like that song" or "that's a pretty good song". Anyway, aMOTION was alright. I can probably count the number of times I've heard it on one hand. But yes, I agree that the dvd has some interesting stuff in there. The extra backstage footage is quite funny.

We've actually gotten organized on it. We have three songs we're doing, Stinkfist, Sober, and Part of Me and a full lineup on most of them. I'll find the list and post it.

Stinkfist:
Guitars - Kage
Bass - JoZ
Drums - Remedy, Faith, or Sliptallica (?)
Vocals - letmypeopleho, or POSSIBLY Kage

Sober:
Guitars - Jake
Bass - Joz
Drums - Remedy
Vocals- letmypeopleho

Part of Me:
Guitars - kurrptsenate
Bass - JoZ
Drums - Remedy
Vocals - letmypeopleho

And of course, our mixer for all of this will be Ben, a.k.a. AJIG.

JoZ managed to put some rather odd effects to create a unique intro. It doesnt need to be to the note, I would rather hear a tool cover where the 4 inouts all show some unique addition to the song.

And if you want kurrupt, re-do Part of Me. The original was good, but JoZ's bass was a bit too dominant in places

Clear, I just recommend you roll back on the gain a little. I can't give much insight into the actual playing because I don't know how to play that song.

Yeah, I agree, most Tool tracks I can play to about 3/4 gain, where Ænema requires a lot less to give it that less muddy effect.

Although (not sure if it was deliberate or not), I love the harmonic additions to the rhythm muting part (after the opening riff). Ill see if it synchs up with JoZ's. (I assume you played to his rather than the album track? Drew seems to be a bit quicker than the album tracks)

And I got De Loused, rather than FTM. I figured after what people told me about that, ill stick with the one I know a few tracks from already. Im loving it a year later than most, but at least now its in my collection.

Personal favourite track after first play.

Im noticing while synching these up, JoZ uses a weird percussion effect at points. i never noticied it until putting it up against a guitar track, but its like a chime (?) And the background noise I had also forgot about, il ltry and clean it up a bit. I remember him saying he might re do it.

Just on the plus side, some sections of this are sounding really cool, and more importantly, unique for the song. :thumb:

I'm DLing JoZ's basslines. I hate dialup. :(

Anyways, I recored Part of Me about 3 hours ago. I double tracked it and everything! I didn't like the way it turned out, so I scrapped it and learned Forest by System of a Down. Then I ate dinner.(Ribs and fettuccini, if you care to know) After that I gave an attempt at Sober. I planned on doing it like this: Recording the overdriven parts in one track, then going back with my acoustic to play the flange parts. I planned to add an effect to my acoustic track. I got it all down, but I tried added a wahwahthatdoesn'treallysoundlikewah effect and it turned out like crap, so I scrapped it. :( Now my parents are watching TV so I can't record anything. Gay.

I still need help on how to do the part after the 16 measure guitar rest. How do you do the squeally deal? It's probably impossible to tab, so, just tell me whereto put my fingers and I'll figure it out.

Ben, or whoever has JoZ's Sober bass track-I hate to be so picky and gay, but could you please YSI the Sober bassline? I can't be on more than 2 or so hours, and I'm in the same position as Faith+1. :( Thanks in advance.

Gimmick!

Ashermerkabah

Track: Eulogy
Album: Aenima

This is what the song means to me.. I could be right, I could be wrong.. Usually with TOOL there is no wrong answer. Anyways!

Here is the dictionary Definition of Eulogy:

Eulogy - A laudatory speech or written tribute, especially one praising someone who has died.?

This song can be used towards anyone with power, such as a dictator, president, GOD, etc..
For conversation sake, lets use god. Maynard takes a sarcastic approach in this track, going back and fourth
From being serious, back to sarcastic remarks, lets look at how the song starts

Eulogy Being the bible in this case.

He had alot to say.
He had alot of nothing to say.
We'll miss him.

So long.
We wish you well.
You told us how you weren't afraid to die.
Well then, so long.
Don't cry.
Or feel too down.
Not all martyrs see divinity.
But at least you tried.

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud.
We'll miss him.
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart.
We'll miss him.

Maynard sets the theme, of someone powerful standing over a crowd.. I picture the time of Christ, people in robes, with god preaching to people hungry for the word of god. Yet all he is saying was just a waste of breath, a waste of time. Hence Not all martyrs see divinity, But at least you tried.â I picture this good ol cartoon act. the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, arguing between each other, just for better understanding. Hence he had a lot to say then he had a lot of nothing to say. The last verse make me picture god, because if you have ever read the bible it describes, that no one is perfect, but Christ. ranting and pointing his finger at everything but his heart.

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice so strong and loud and I
Swallowed his facade cuz I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me.

Back to the devil/angel theory.. This person is lost, so he looks for someone to lead the way for eternity. Some one that could relate to him. And someone above the ground (all the features of Christ) so this person believes in christ, for help. For guidance, yet he is stabbed in the back rather then being at peace.
Facade, stands for a face of a building as in God shows his face, all beautiful and perfect, but when you enter the building its thrashed and messy

Will you? Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you f*ckin lie.

Don't you step out of line.
Don't you f*ckin lie.

The messy building reflects his lies.. Picture it as if the person has fallen for the beginning message, yet finds out everything he knew or was told were all lies.

Come down.
Get off your f*ckin cross.
We need the f*ckin space to nail the next fool martyr.

To ascend you must die.
You must be crucified
For your sins and your lies.
Goodbye...

I feel this is after he understands that you dont have to be a follower to have eternal happiness. And is somewhat just making fun of the whole situation.

Welp.. there it is hopefully it makes sense, it does to me. And like I has said before I could be totally wrong.

And on a side note how the **** do you guys play Tool stuff!! I just can't get the rhythm's right, especially in the verses when the guitar isn't as clear, I play what I would play, then stop and listen and realise Adam is playing some weird *** ****!

Do you guys read off tabs? Or do you use Powertabs and get the rhythm from there?

I swear to you, I will have this done!

Cheers for trying again, I dont dare touch bittorent stuffs myself.

Ill get the various requests sorted once I re-read through the thread.

EDIT: Right, two uploads asked for. here they come

JoZ's bass for Stinkfist (http://s11.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=28J0GPA69KD8V1N43Z90XEF02L)

....and the bass for sober (http://s51.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3C9F95CWQFGCO3QKL4AKOR0SNZ)

As for how he recorded them, he played along with the album track, you can tell with some as you can faintly hear the track playing in the background.

Hey guys...I havent followed this thread at all before so forgive me if I'm bringing up an old topic here but I heard rumors of a new Tool album maybe even this year. I know thats probably very unlikely with Tool but still....is there any truth to any of this?

We're still armed with only rumours im afraid. All we know is they are working on an album, they have quite a bit of material coming together, but no idea of release date.

Im starting to think that people should start making predictions on what date the album will be released on. Then a prize for the closest

If you pinpoint to an exact date, even better.

Reminder that most UK new releases happen on a Monday, so that'll narrow down date selections. Not sur eif its the same in the states.

AND IF THE US/UK RELEASE DATES DO NOT COINCIDE, I WILL BE ONE MAD BRIT

Oh, and my prediction: October 24th. But thats a hopeful one, as that would mean its out for my birthday

I think Eulogy could be applied to Bill Hicks, Ron L. Hubbard, and somehow (and some people believe this) it could be about Maynard himself... speaking in third person.. Though I think Ron L. Hubbard would be a prime choice because Aenima was the album that Maynard vented his anger about Hubbard... Like so on the title track "**** Ron L. Hubbard and **** all his clones.."

I think it's a big ole generalisation for many people who aspire to be martyrs, it explains that people who actually want to become martyrs, don't become martyrs. Same kind of thing as 'A person that wants to be a politician should never be given the chance'...Maynard basically says it's not all fun and games so come down get off your cross and stop bothering people. He may have had someone in mind when he wrote it, he may have not...I'll guess we'll never know...

LMPH-Still looking for your real name so I don't have to acronymate your s/n. As for your question, not much has happened. Rob uploaded the guitar to Ænema and Ben mix'd it. Ben also uploaded all of The JoZ's bass tracks into a ZIP file on page 342, in case you were interested in that. There was also lots of APC talk. Kurrpt uploaded all of amotion, I beleive. (Not sure why it took him 10 posts to do so, but hey, whatever.)
Well, my real name is Nojus, but Dancin' Man calls me Moses because of my sn so call me what you want. Ok, well I found a track for Part of Me with all the parts on it, so you may get some vocals for that soon enough. That is, if everyone gets out of the house.

Blah. They're completely different drummers. Danny Carey's music is 340979833985987x more complicated but Travis can beat the $hit out of a snare and has impressive solos. If only the guy would write some good music so he could show off his chops more.

Travis may play well with a snare drum, but Danny... oooooooooooooooohhh boy.. Danny tears it up on ALL of his drums... even his electric pads (Triad)
and a major plus is Danny can completely blow a simple 4/4 beat out of the water by writing around it with some wild time signatures and rhythms... the man is a genius.. best influence for drumming that I've ever had :)

Edit:

To the Travis Barker guy, Travis is a pretty good drummer, but don't be so ignorant and say he's better than someone you've never heard of. I think Danny Carey is better than Travis. Travis has done some great drumming with the Aquabats though, however it still doesn't touch anything Danny Carey has done IMO.

Apart from sounding like you sang them from a well, your vox shows promise, it has the right feel for the song.

The Grudge (that riff you were having trouble with replicating) , The Patient (although this is easier) it starts at [4:50] When I read the tab and then play it sounds completely ****ed.

Although i have never really sat down to learn them, I spend like 20 mins on one song and when I don't get the rhythm right after a couple of shots, I just crack the shits and play other stuff...

The highlight bands of the weekend for me

Biffy Clyro (fanboy)
Megadave (just because)
InMe (See if they went the right way with their new stuff)
Napalm Death
Meshuggah

Trivium (I like what im hearing from them)
Mastodon
Team Sleep
Slayer

Towards the Crushed Like Fruit style of song writing. Faster The Chase is better than their bad tracks on the last album, but they are borderline on either getting really good with their writing, or just plain whiny crappy lyrics.
