I don't know, if it was just maynard and trent working together the project would be hit or miss imo. Trent creates very slow simple melodies with angsty lyrics which go hand in hand with his style of music. Wheras maynard goes for more adventurous melodies which work well with the tool/APC sounds....

Nice to hear your starting work again...

Why re-read AJIG? I am aware lolapalooza is a tour, but im not sure that they played together...

I saw an interview somewhere that said that Maynard and Billy were having too many conflicts, and that after Maynard went back to Tool after APC finished touring, APC might not continue...

I don't know the validity of it, however.
No, you'd be right. Maynard and Billy were having numerous conflicts over Thirteenth Step. Billy wanted a heavier record, different artwork, and The Outsider to be the second single. Maynard wanted softer, more experimental music, and Blue to be the second single. Jeordie White ended up being a buffer for the two of them, as he tried to help settle a lot of conflicts. In the end, they made a video for The Outsider, and Maynard's cover/booklet art won, and so Billy gave him the artwork credit in the linear notes. I still think Thirteenth Step is the best APC album.

However, I know that the band wants to make another record after Maynard finishes the album, and the subsequent massive tour that will hopefully follow. At the moment, Billy is working on a rumored solo project.

Tom ended up with 33, Adam had 30. :( Adam got snipped from the competition.
Oh, but according to this they tied:

Poll B:
1. Tom Morrello - 27
2. John Petrucci - 52
3. Adam Jones - 27
4. Ritchie Blackmore - 15
5. Eric Clapton - 56
6. Chuck Berry - 7
7. Dave Murray - 24
8. Zakk Wylde - 29
9. Jerry Cantrell - 11
10. Carlos Santana - 32

How do you know this?
I read about it online, and of course heard, on the live Vacant mp3, Maynard talking about the song being one of Tapeworm's. Then, when eMotive came around, the studio version of Vacant basically had a different intro and a few lyrics changed around, and retitled as Passive. Plus, I read one of Trent's Q&A's on nin.com, and he mentioned the song Vacant, and also mentioned it's new form as Passive.

I don't think it'd be fair classing tool with metallica and stuff, so i would question the metal tag. I think they have to go in with someone, It'd be dream theater and opeth making them prog metal...But metal???

That. The thing I read said that the possibility of another APC album was slim, because of the conflict between Maynard and Billy. It was unclear if they would be able to work together again, at least long enough to create a new album, so...it's up in the air, last I knew, but again, I don't know for sure.

I finally found a song where Jones shreds!!

Check out Cold and Ugly live off of Opiate. Around 2:45 he shreds the crap out of the fretboard. Bonus.
Yes!! I heard that and I looked on the booklet to see if it was a different guitarist the first time I heard that.

This is a dark day for Tool guitarists. :(

I keep putting random shred parts in Tool songs. My favourite is the distortion kick in on Ticks And Leeches, after that long quiet section. He only strums the chords once. i shred the crap outta them. Makes up for not having the pounding drums taking the pace of the song through the roof.

Dark day for tool guitarists, why?

Because most of MX pay too much attention to who plays the fastest and don't wanna stop to appreciated adam's genius? (Assumes you are talking about adam not making the next round of the guitarist comp)

The fact a bassist knew a shred part over guitarists makes it dark.

And doint worry, im not a shred-aholic. I prefer slow burning playing.

(though I do love the occassional tremelo)

And I am bitter over Adam going out, mainly as Morello made it through. That shows that people vote bands, not guitarists in some instances.

Firstly, if Reznor and Maynard did like, a serious made-to-be-released recording project, I think it might very well be some of the darkest music ever recorded, or at least damn close.
Maynard in APC isn't very dark at all. He's not really what makes Tool dark. If Reznor was in Tool, now that would be some dark music.

Im a huge FNM fan, and i don't know about reznor, but I think it would be interesting to see Patton up there with Tool.

As far as albums to recommend, if your just getting into FNM, I would say either The Real Thing, or King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime. The Real Thing is more metal, less polished, and a little darker IMO, but King for a day has almost more of a punk influence, (I hate punk so don't worry, they are way beyond everything else). My favorite album is probably King for A Day.

The Real Thing has that single "epic" which is the last favorite song of mine on the record, but that's how the album sounds, although writing wise everything they do is is different.

If you have the new version of Winamp (5), (which is free-winamp.com) you can open the winamp.com-videos section (in the classic rock section for some dumb reason) and check out all the videos. Digging the Grave is one of my favs and its on King for a day. The only videos for The real thing are Epic, and Falling to pieces, the 2 singles from that record, But dont let that fool you, the other songs on the album are waaaaaay better than those. The other vids are from the other albums, Angeldust and Album of the Year. Ignore Annes song and We care a lot with that gay singer they had before patton.

Yeah, Delgado's work has come a long way I agree. But the mellow parts are being hindered by Stef's guitar lines. Its always been the problem in that band, stef wants to 'rock out' 24/7, while Chino wants to mix it up. Hence ( i guess), why he started Team Sleep

Perfect Drug was a single song he did in between the era of TDS and TF. It was sort of an experiment, I think, as Reznor works on many different projects in between the five or six years of every NIN album. He made that song prior to releasing the The Fragile, and it kind of threw everyone off as to the style of TF.

And you're not missing any full albums really, unless you want to count AATCHB or TFA, neither of which contain any new material, relativley speaking. Also, didn't you say you had Still? Other than that, you're missing a large number of Halos, but a lot of those are unnecessary.

Down in a Hole? MEDIOCRE?!? I will smite thee!

yea, Dirt is an amazing record from front to back, if not THE best then very close to the best. Along with the last AIC record (i call it Tripod).

Chino: hes ok to me when hes not whining so much. I saw them live with Incubus (worst live sound I have ever seen) and Chino busted out Digital Bath prefectly. He was on that night.

This is why I appeal for speakers

I recently nabbed some speakers from my computer class. The next day another pair were there, and the next day, and the next day. Whoever sits at my computer has like, infinite sets of speakers. There's a new set every day.

Why do people talk down about John Petrucci all the time? I go to the guitar forum sometimes for ****s and there's almost always some random Petrucci joke.

Because NO-ONE should have their guitar that high :P
And I dont like him because I think he's really over-rated, is too much of a show-off and I really dont like Dream Theater. He has no real feeling to his playing.
And for someone who I've seen play chromatic scales without looking, he was concentrating an awful lot on their master of puppets cover. But I dont really like Metallica too much either.

I think SFAM is overrated personally. The story is good, and the songs are good, but I just can't get into it. It's mostly too soft for my taste. That being said, I really like "Fatal Tragedy", "Beyond This Life", "Home" and "The Dance of Eternity"

6 Degrees...well. I love "The Glass Prison", "Blind Faith" and "The Great Debate" on disc one, I don't care for "Misunderstood" or "Disappear".

The song "6 Degrees" is ok, but I wasn't that impressed with it really, as a whole. A couple of the parts, such as "War Inside my Head" and "The Test That Stumped Them All" I like, but overall, meh.

ToT > Awake IMO.

I really just dont like james labrie and his 80's power metal style vocals. I like all of the music. John pettrucci is my second fav guitar player (guess who's first), and Ive always disagreed with those who say he doesn't play 'with emotion' (whatever the hell that means). He is very melodic, and his playing can send chills up my spine, (not just his solos, the long riff near the end of Universal mind still gives me goosebumps).

As for dt's records, my fav will always and forever be ACOS. Its pretty much perfect. Even the live tunes sound incredible. The cover of perfect strangers is killer (ive never even heard the original). I loved every part of SFAM except for the vocal/storyline, which I though was kinda lame and nothing to do with Metropolis pt.1. I didn't get into 6degrees too much, there were a good couple of tunes, (along with a straight up Toolism in The Great Debate.) I&W I will always like cuz it was my first DT record. Awake is good, I thought Space Dye Vest was a great song from that record. Yea innocence faded was kinda lame except for the end jam. And Scarred is a really good tune. ToT is at the bottum of my list. I love heavy stuff, but it sounded like DT was 'trying to hard', if you know what I mean. I didn't appreciate the blatant Mustane/Hetfeild vocal imitation, nor the 'phone rap'. JP's solo record is really good, like Liquid Tensiony good, (cept no Levin :upset: )

They should have never gotten rid of Kevin Moore. If you havent heard it, find OSI, its Kevin Moore, Portnoy and one of the guys from fates warning. It's like a mesh of Pink Floyd and Tool. If Kevin stayed with the band, I think they'd be better off (more creative) than with Rudess.

and Not to forget Liquid Tension. If you don't have it get it...

I liked surfing with the alien and the extremist. Then I saw him live at G3 with Vai, and Pettrucci. Satch's and Vai's attitude made me want to puke. They act like believe everything theyre told about them being guitar gods. Pettrucci humbled both of them imo. Came out, played his songs, played to the crowd, but vai and satch were masterbating. I had alien love secrets and passion from vai, but I dont listen to those guys much anymore due to that show. Pettrucci pwn.
