Okey, this is the first time I'm visiting this forum. (Never seen it before) And I saw Afrodrummer wanted a review on my Janus Ergo Pedals. Although I'm a bit late, maybe someone else things this is helpful. :)

First of, I've never tried any other double pedals. (Only the ICs for a few seconds) So I only have my own opinion on this and they're based on what I think about them.

Name: Janus Ergo Double Pedals. (Made by Mapex)

Story:

I was looking for a new pedal some time ago, first of all because I didn't like the old Yamaha one. When I was getting a new pedal I thought: Why not get a double pedal while I'm first buying it?

At first I looked at Mapex' cheap model, the P380, because I didn't have so much money at that time. But later I came across the Janus Pedals on a website. They looked great and I saved up the money and bought them.

When the package arrived I was very excited because all the small reviews I've read said good tings about it.

I unwrapped the pedal and got a big smile on my face. :D
They looked so great. At first I noticed how big they were. Not just the length of the pedals but how steady and how 'unbreakable' it looked. They were so much bigger than my old pedal.

The thought behind the pedal:

This pedal is, as said, an Ergo Pedal. Some of you would think that it's just a gimmick. I thought it at first too. But later when I've experienced with the pedal, the Ergo thing is really great. The thing is: you can change the plate on the foot board and make it fir more comfortable to your foot. The pedal have two plates two choose between. A total flat one, same as one any other pedal. And the Ergo plate which is a curved shaped plate. (I'm getting more pics of this soon)

The pedal also have a Heel-extension plate which enhance the length of the foot board. If you want, you can take it of, but I don't like to do that. With the extension-plate the foot board is (From the toe-stop and all the way back) 13 Inches. (Look at the picture)

Information about the Pedals:

These Pedals have lots of special things that no other pedals have.

-Heel-extension plate as mentioned.
-A Velcro plat/fastening under the pedal so it won't move on the carpet. (Removeable) and a rubber plate if you're playing on a slippy floor.
-A key holder, you'll never be without a key again!
-The screw for the bass drum hoop has an easy acsess.
-Double chain drive.
-You can choose between chain or belts. (You get both when ordering)
-Dual tone plastic and felt beaters.
-Anti friction drivecam (Transmits every stroke and nuance of your technique)
-You also get a
-You also get a pedal bag and an instruction DVD. Both great. And a stick bag which is a part of the pedal bag.

Hits:

This pedal is great all over the place. Everything mentioned above makes this pedal so great.

Misses:

Nothing that I can think of. It's just nothing wrong with it, and I haven't had any problems at all with it. :)

Edit: Some people would maybe have some problems with the size and weight. For me this is not a problem since I'm not moving them to much. But yes, they are heavy.

Conclusion:

A great double bass pedal that work for all styles from funk to metal. Really quick and got lots of power. Can also be played at low volume settings. It's great overall.

I have to give it 6 out of 5 because I think that no other pedal can beat this one with all the features, the great quality and what you get for the money you pay. I recommend this pedal for any use.

Doesn't it suck to play the slave pedal like that?
My crappy Hi-hat stand doesn't have rotating legs so until I get a new one i have to squeeze my foot in there.

No, not at all. I don't notice the hi-hat leg. I'm not even near it. :)

Great review. I rather like these pedals, but maybe i'm just a Mapex groupie.

I would like to add though: For your negatives column, you couldve put in the size and weight.

PS: Excellent choice in Bass batter head. Remo PS3's are without a doubt my preference.

Thanks Scythe.

For me it's not a problem with the size and weight, and I don't move them to much, but I'll put it in if it would be a problem for some. :)

Yeah, the PS3 is amazing. :thumb:

I have this pedals too, they're really good, the risponse is perfect, it's very smooth, but I have to say that it has a negative thing that no one noticed, maybe it's not so important, in fact, it isn't to me, you can't adjust the foot plate angle independently of the beater angle, it's a pitty, because it seemed that mapex puts a lot of attention in every little detail.
A feature that you didn't name is the interchangeables cams(included in the pack).

hey, i wanna thank you Kristian, for ensuring that my next/ 1st double bass will indeed be mapex made. I wanted the pedal to match with my kit, and i've heard nothing bit good news about them from my drum teacher. Still thanx for helping me choose

p.s. did you know they make a version with a hi hat stand where the hi hat pedal is the second bass pedal (not too sure how that works,)

I know that pedal, is the janus system hat, I tried it in a music store and it feels awful, it works in this way, you have some artifact that is attached to your foot, when you want to play double bass you have to take the pedal to the right, and hi hats to the left. I don't like because sometimes I have to separate a little bit my foot from the foot board, and that thing attached to my foot don't let me do it.
Hope this help you. Bye.

You welcome. :) They're a great piece of equipment. Nothing more to say.

BlackSwan: I forgot about the interchangable cams. The pedals have so many functions that you fast forget some of them. I like to have the most rounded cams if anyone wonders. I like it to be smooth, and the round one give me that. The other one gives more power in my opinion. They're great to have anyways.

I didn't quite understand that other thing you said.
Is it possible to adjust the foot plate angle independently of the beater angle on the IC pedals for instance? I haven't seen that before though, and I don't think I need it either. If you can explain it a bit better to me so I can put it in my first post. ;) Thanks.

Yes, I'm almost sure that Iron Cobra has an adjustment for the beater angle and separately another for the foot board, but, I rather my Janus :D I don't like the IC, don't like how they feel.

Price?

I'm seriously contemplating grabbing myself a pair of those.

Something about the Iron Cobras just doesn't attract me to them, I have to go try them for myself though.
