Seeing as Megadeth is a great band, I decided to start a thread for them. Hopefully this will get cough*official*cough. So the next Megadeth album is out in September. Do you think they will have a tour to go with it? I really want to see them live.

But the new album sucks. The 3 songs alot of people have heard already (Kick The Chair, Blackmail The Universe and Die Dead Enough) are the best on it. It really does suck, by st. anger proportions. And ellefeson is sueing :(

my fav megadeth albums are
- rust in peace
-countdown to extinction
- peace sells but whos buying

i heard somone say on a different thread that they had a copy of the new album "the system has failed", and that its very similar to TWNAH, but only with even more spoken lyrics, rather than singing lines - these spoken lyrics betta not be like the verse of sweating bullets ( personally i think that track is a joke)

dont nock captive hounor - great track, but yeah the intro is dam corny!

TWNAH doesnt shape up too well ith RIP, countdown, or peace sells, but its a hell of an emprovment from criptic writings (what the hell is with "i'll get even  ) or what i've heard from risk. The title track from TWNAH has a stupid verse talking part just like swetting bulets - they r both embarrassing!

I love TWNAH, "promises" and "burning bridges" are two of my favoutite Megadeth tracks ever. This comming from someone whos been a fan for 8 years and seen the band 3 times. Very impressive album overall, i enjoyed it as well as the tour. Some of Dave's "conversation" parts like on "1000 X-goodbye" is a little hard to handle but overall i can take it preety well.

and yes, Captice Honuor is a good track but the album has far better tracks like "archeitechre of agression" "forclosure of a dream" and "ashes in your mouth".

I hear ya. How the hell would Friedman want to be more alternative when the guy can rip solos as good as anyone? It just doesnt make sense to me at all, he was in a speed metal band before Megadeth, and then was part of arguably the best album ever created in Rust in Peace

Criptic Writings
Youthanasia

in that order

What would you recommend, Cryptic Writings, Countdown to Extinction, or Youthenasia?

Yes, any of those three are phemonial.

Cryptic Writings is probley the best mainstream metal album ever made, the riffs are fantastic, great leads, and menza rips the drum kit appart. I think this has Dave's best song writing in his whole career. This album really explores every type of Megadeth song immaginable. Key tracks are: she-wolf, trust, and disintegrators

Countdown to Extinction- basically like their version of "the black album" really really heavy stuff but less thrashy and more polished songs. Dave has alot of Megadeth anthems on here like "forclosure of a dream" "skin o' my teeth" and "ashes in your mouth", defiently a favourite of fans of older and newer Megadeth.

Youthinasia- just overall a very impressive and fun album to listne to. Kicks off with three of the best Megadeth songs in existance "reckoning day" "train of consequences" and "addicted to chaos". the album lags a litte bit in the middle with some weaker tracks (blood of heros, killing road, etc...) which i still like alot but they arnt my favourites, it does pick back up with the title track and "i thought i knew it all"...definetly worth buying next time you see it, ive been enjoying this album for close to a decade and still love it.

you cant go wrong with any three of them really. i think their 90's albums have better replay value than their early thrasy album simply because i am in the mood for them more and the songs are more fun to sing along to. All Megadeth is fantastic, just i like their more polished sound to their early sound.

What would you recommend, Cryptic Writings, Countdown to Extinction, or Youthenasia?

All are extremely good albums!

Cryptic writings is very mainstreem, but in a good way though. My favourite track would have to be "have cool will travel". Its chorus is great, not heavey or anything though, but its got a great melody and chord progression. She-wolf is ok, but the version the do on rude awakening with the guitar solos/drum solo is 10 times better! Over all the album has very few tracks that are hard to listen too (allthough i hate mastermind!)

Countdown to extinction - perhaps my favourite Megadeth album (apart from RIP) RIP is awsome, but i always skip dawn petrol, were as Countdown has no track that i feel the need to skip. My fav tracks r, symphony of distruction (obviously) ashes in your mouth, coundown to extinction (how good, yet simple is the solo!) and.....all of them! :thumb:

Youthanasia is awsome! Reconing day is one of my favourite megadeth tracks of all time, and A tout le monde - has any metal band written a better ballad? (maybe megadeth with promises??) 1 thing that anoys me about the album though, is that the drums at the start of addicted to chaos remind me of the drums in the Anthrax song "only"

get countdown and youthanasia before cryptic writings.

thank you pate! im glad you feel the same. I think it shows alot of character in a metal musician like Mustaine to write a song like "promises" and have it turn out as wonderfully as it did. promises is awsome! i love the lead section too, infact the whole song is pretty well flawless. I dont belive that anyone could not enjoy promises, its probly the best track off the album, (i like disconnect, 1000 times good by return to the hanger and dread and the fugative mind alot too). The start always reminds me of the start of "no leaf clover" by metallica, but promises is a much better song than no leaf clover is anyway!

is your rude awakening a double CD? or are u talking about the DVD? Because either way there is 25 songs in total on the DVD and 24 on the double CD(its only missing "Silent Scorn", which is just the last song which they dont actually play when the band thanks the crowd). these three used CD stores in town here used to sell them until they got caught by the police about 3 years ago lol, so that run is over! i wish i would have been more into buying bootlegs when they were so avaible like that, like the Cinderlella song goes "dont know what you got till its gone" haha. im sure you can find some of them on e-bay, i like them alot and some have sound quality thats decent enough to compare to "rude awakening" just dosent have the volume hehe.

by the way, who ever asked about "Hidden Treasures" i say get that for sure. Thre isnt a bad track on it, and some of the songs are Megadeth classics "breakpoint" and my personal favourite song by the band "99 ways to die" plus killer covers of Alice Cooper's "no more mr.nice guy" and Black Sabbath's "paranoid". Dave does a rather odd slower track called "diadems" which has its own charm to it and you'd like it, difffernt sound for him and of course theres the hit "Angry Again" in the middle as well. Its a nobrainer, pick it up!

watch VH1's behind the music on Megadeth, they talk about Mustaine punching out Hetfield because Hetfield kicked Dave's dog after it scratched Ron Mcgovney's Car

according to Ron Dave jumped on James' back and a fight broke out which ended in Hetfield telling Dave he was out. The next day Dave came back begging to be in the band again. I think thats it, more info about it can be found here http://www.metallicaworld.co.uk/Interviews/1997_ronmcgovney.htm

(i'm referring to the fight, not the reason Dave was eventually thrown out)

Whoever asked about the new album solos, yes. The solo in Kick the Chair is awesome. As for the line-up, I'm not sure. Oh and what do you guys think I have enough money for either the Rude Awakening DVD or the Behind the Music. What do you guys think I should buy?

is your rude awakening a double CD? or are u talking about the DVD? Because either way there is 25 songs in total on the DVD and 24 on the double CD(its only missing "Silent Scorn", which is just the last song which they dont actually play when the band thanks the crowd). What you may have is a condensed version of Rude Awakening, in which they selected probably the 10 best out of the entire concert

yeah, I think that is it, because it came as a double CD thing, with the audio CD and the DVD...

OK...what happened was Hetfield and Ulrich were thinking that because of Dave's behavior that he was going to bring down the band, remember, before Metallica bought out kill 'em all that they were already stars in the underground. Hetfield, Ulrich and Burton got Mustaine up one morning and said your ou of the band, Mustaine was like "what, no warning, no second chance?. They took him and his stuff to the bus and just left him there. This hurt Mustaine, he even said it was more hurtful to him the watching his father die. He started Megadeth to get back at Metallica.

i thought they woke him up one morning, told him he had 20 minutes to pack and that they had booked a flight for him. This is from an interview with metal forces magazine with Dave:

"Basically," Mustaine told Metal Forces fanzine shortly after re-emerging with his new band, Megadeth, "when they told me to leave I packed in about 20 seconds and I was gone. I wasn't upset at all as I wanted to start a solo project during the middle of Metallica anyway".

First point: Exactly. And the old artwork is ace. WAAY better that the re-release.

Second Point: EFGDNFGLJDNT@$%@!#~~~~!!!! SFSGSW, in my opinion, has the best production and the best song writing out of any megadeth album. I've listen to it about 20 times in the past week, and i must say, the whole atmosphere is just insanely dark. It's excellent. While the production is technically very good, the record couldn't have sounded better.

MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE Files Counter Lawsuit Against DAVID ELLEFSON

Billboard.biz is reporting that MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has filed a counter lawsuit against former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson alleging that Ellefson on May 14 executed a settlement agreement in which he gave up his 20% interest in MEGADETH. Mustaine maintains that the settlement — which Ellefson alleges was signed under pressure and ultimately withdrawn — released Mustaine from all claims.

Mustaine's suit, which seeks damages to be determined, was filed in response to Ellefson's original action, filed July 12 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, which alleges that co-founding guitarist David Mustaine breached their long-running partnership agreement. He claims Mustaine wrongfully took the lion's share of the band's income (estimated at more than $200 million since 1984) for himself and cut Ellefson out of the band's music publishing and merchandise revenues.

Ellefson also says that Mustaine libeled him in an online posting. The bassist is seeking at least $18.5 million in damages.

U obviously are a metallica fan (like most of us, metallica are a awsome band), and although dave's voice isnt as polished as james' he doesnt suck, infact i recon his singing lines are better than james' - better melodys etc (he doesnt suck tho, his voice just gets a little getting used to.......... i think the reason people dont like Dave's voice is cos they hear an intro to a megadeth song and expect the singing to sound just like James Hetfield......)

Whoever asked about the new album solos, yes. The solo in Kick the Chair is awesome. As for the line-up, I'm not sure. Oh and what do you guys think I have enough money for either the Rude Awakening DVD or the Behind the Music. What do you guys think I should buy?

do yourself a huge favour dude and buy the rude awakening dvd. it will blow you away, even if your aren't a fan. but why wouldn't you be hey???!!

Today I got Countdown to Extintion, and man, am I disappionted. I mean really, really, really upset. I own RIP and Peace Sells, and was worrying about being let down. I don't mind if it's not as thrashy, butit's really uninspiring. Any help, thanx

give it some time dude, when i bought it on release, i was a bit cut up coz RIP was my fave album of all time but trust me, it is a cracker. 'this was my life', 'ashes in your mouth', 'captive honor' all still cut the mustard with me. its true what the others have said about nineties music and all, and they did spend considerable time making it 'radio friendly' but stick with it.

how good is the intro to die dead enough?? - signature poland leads, gota love it!
the whole songs pretty good actually, cant wait till the album comes out

the song is awesome, as is the rest of the album. as i heard each track i just got more and more excited. 'kick the chair' 'the scorpion' 'back in the day' 'tears in a vial' all just the best mix of old skool and post RIP deth. i cant wait to buy the album. makes metallica's last couple of efforts look pretty lame. can't understand why you'd have a metal album with no guitar solos (st anger)??!

But yeah, sometime between SFSG..SW and Rust In Peace, his voice went to hell. But then again, so did James Hetfeild's...

the system has failed seems like it will be pretty good. ive heard blackmail, dde, kick the chair, and of mice and men. blackmail the universe has a great opening riff, really gets you going. die dead enough is an all around good song. kick the chair is my favorite out of the three, great playing all around. and of mice and men, not my favorite song, but its still pretty good. all in all, the system has failed is shaping up to be better than st. anger in every way. except it isnt better at sucking. :D

Megadeth is ****ing great band and dave makes unbelievably good riffs. For me, the most important album has been Rust in peace. And it contais song Tornado of souls(it rocks like hell!!). From the new album i have heard only one title, Kick the chair. I dont know what to think about it, its good but not good as the old songs. But still i must buy the new record. And all the remastered albums aswell. Whatever you say, Daves creaky voice is great :)

I dont have it yet,but apparently the original vocalist of MD.45 played the harmonica on the album, but on the remaster Dave re-did all the harmonica parts on guitar as well!!!! This is because Dave could not find the original master tapes of the vocals/harmonica on MD.45. That's why I cant wait to get it, but the stores around here in the hammer (Hamilton,Canada) dont have the remasters yet.

I like Good mourning/Black friday too, although its not my favourite track on PSBWB ( i prefer wake up dead, peace sells, the conjering and devils island). Does anyone else think vocal line for the verse of Black friday (the second, heavier section of the song) sounds very similar to some of the vocal lines in "devils island"?? - i do

what i meen is

"Killer, intruder, homicidal man.
If you see me coming, run as fast as you can." (black friday)

has a similar vocal line to

"Oh, hear the call,
From the grave beyond.
Oh, so pernicious,
Her soul it creates song." (devils island)

Metallica fans hate Megadeth, because they are better than Metallica.

Megadeth fans hate Metallica, because Metallica kicked him out and left him at a bus stop. Then they used some of his songs on their first 2 albums, when he told them not to and because they are a bunch of sell-outs.

The other one was a demo of "Take No Prisoners" with Chris Poland on guitar
