Dave dedicating "Of Mice And Men" to Dimebag, a really beautiful gesture, and also the one time during the night when the crowd chanted something other then "MEGA-DETH" (IE, they chanted DIME-BAG instead :D )
In Philly no one even chanted Megadeth, it was just DAVE-DAVE-DAVE-DAVE.
Sounds like a killer show though.

Oh yeah I remember Dave pwned some guy in the audience. It went something like this, and by the way what the guy said I'm just inferring based on Dave's responses.
Dave: Thanks for giving me the finger there man.
Guy: I'm from St. Louis.
Dave: What? I don't care where you're from. Why are you giving me the finger?
Guy: You don't like St. Louis?
Dave: St. Louis? I don't have anything against the city, except you.

Yeah, something similar happened in Copenhagen. Dave started bitching with this guy from the audience, who was talking when Dave was doin' one of his (surprisingly few) speeches :)
Since the guy was obviously a fan, it all ended with Dave goin: I love you, man, but shut the **** up!

Rust in Peace is considered by many, including myself, to be their best. If you like Youthanasia, you might be better off getting Countdown to Extinction next though, still a great album. CTE is more in the same vein as Youth, whereas RiP is quite a bit different, as in, its way thrashier.

I watched the Metallica, dvd today (some kind of monster ), first i thought it was pretty ****, but when Dave came in and i learned what happened to him, it just seemed so crap to me what they did to him. You could see in is eyes what he felt in his heart, how disgusted he was. Primaraly i blame Lars. He's a good drummer but his voice and attitude makes him a knob. imo
I like Metallica and all but that docco just takes me way to deep into their core.

And IMHO, Youth is absaolute crap. It sound like a couple of 40 year-olds trying to sound heavier than they really are. Ironically, now that Mustaine actually is in his fourties, he manages to release the first good album for years

Poland was a jazz guitarist before Deth, so yeah, that kind of carried over into it. And I think his tone sucked on KIMB, and was pretty good on Peace Sells.
Marty was in Cacophony before Deth, and oddly he went into Japanese pop music after. His solos always sounded influenced by other styles of music, even more so that Poland's.

Mustaine is one of the best. people think of him as just a rythem/vocalist but you have to remember that:
1. he was the lead guitarist for metallica before he got kicked out
2. he wrote alot of material for metallica which got stolen by the bastards
(example: four horsemen is megadeths mecanix)
3. he is better than kirk hammet any day, kirk is good on cds but sucks live.
4. he writes all the solos for megadeth bassically so he can play his lead
guitarists parts the same or better than his lead guitarist
5. holy wars (just listen to that megadeth song and youll see why he owns)

Maybe some stuff, but I remember reading an interview where they were playing live, and Marty missed a queue, so Dave just took the solo for him.
I was actually suprised by his soloing ability on TSHF. I would have thought that Poland would write all of the good solos, but it seems like the better ones were all played by Dave.

I had to fight to record the second electric solo in this tune the way I wanted! The first take I did as I was just warming up was the one that producer Mike Clink liked. When he heard it, he said, "That's fine. Good job." And I was like , "Whooooaaaa! Wait a minute. I haven't even tuned my guitar yet. Let me play a REAL solo here." He and Mustaine both thought it was fine and that we should move on to something else, so we left it at that. As the days went on and on, just knowing that solo was on there really bugged me. So I kept bringing it up to the guys that I wanted to redo it. Everybody liked the solo that was there, so I had no allies! Eventually I wore down Mike Clink's nerves and he had me come back in and re-cut the solo, and the new solo is the one that made the record.
LUCRETIA
This solo is a great example of my playing. It's got it all. It sounds worked out, but it really wasn't. I follow all the chord changes differently, almost like a jazz player, which I definitely am not. To explain this solo technically would take a page and a half and a music professor. I'm quite pleased with this one.
TORNADO OF SOULS
When I finished the solo to this one, Mustaine came into the studio, listened to it down once, turned around and without saying a word, shook my hand. It was at that moment that I felt like I was truly the guitarist for this band.
A TOUT LE MONDE
Playing this song in France was the greatest!! It is an amazing feeling to hear tens of thousands of people singing your song in a foreign language! Believe it or not, I sort of fashioned the intro of the guitar solo after Larry Carlton's solo in Lionel Richie's "Hello". If you're gonna copy something, you might as well copy something that was a hit...
Just a few examples of how Marty wrote all his solos...

Poland wasn't even in the band when Holy Wars was recorded.
I'd like to see how much of Friedman's solos Dave could play, since lots of people say he's a poor guitarist that just plays fast and surrounds himself with good guitarists that make him look better. Nonetheless you can easily tell which Hangar 18 solo is Dave's, just by the tremolo. I think its great that Dave plays his solos in a more straight up metal style and the other lead guitarist plays in a different style. Makes songs like Hangar 18 really interesting to hear both types.
and holy crap, I just downloaded Four Horsemen, and it is exactly the same as Mechanix, but slowed down a bit. Any other Tallica songs that are this way? Like Call of Ktulu and the Hangar intro?

Dissappointed in Countdown? Really?
It is possible, I had the same problem when I first listened to it. After a while, it did grow on me. I think its main problem (apart from the slick, over-produced sound that most Megadeth albums past RIP suffered from) is that it has some seriously bad/filler songs on it.
Of course, it still has Countdown, Skin, Architecture, Symphony and Forclosure \m/
BTW, does anyone know why Sloas and the other guys from TSHF isn't touring with the band now?

Vinnie Colaiuta...I think he was the drummer for Sting as well, was he not?
I also think the lineup for the tour is good now...although, a RIP lineup return (- Ellefson, + MacDonough) would be awesome...Marty, Nick, Dave, James...:O...however, Glenn and Shawn are filling in nicely for Chris/Marty/Al and Gar/Nick...James > Juniour, IMO. Although, Juniour did write all the lines James is playing.
I just hope that Dave's solo career has this lineup for it. They work well together IMO.

It would be sweet if Poland and Menza joined the band again.
Menza did join in, but then backed out in the last minute.
BTW, have you guys heard about him and the "aliens"?

Now lets hear about the martians...
and on a new topic, what's you guys favorite album cover art of Deth's? I'd say the new KIMB and TSHF are mine. Actually I just listened to TSHF again last night, and I have to say, I think its as good as Countdown.

^^^^Same here.
And regarding the aliens: Nick is convinced they exist, he even claims that he have slept with some of them during all the touring. I'm not sure weather it was Mustaine or Friedman who later claimed that "Its sad to hear such a stupid thing coming from such an intelligent guy" :D

Yes Sir, TSHF really starts to grow on you after a while doesn't it?
I would say it's alot like countdown, and it definatly pwns.
I reckon my absolute favourite 'Deth cover would be SFSG...SW,
just to see Rattlehead like that, it makes me wanna listen to that album
even more.

I always thought that album cover looked kinda silly, but there you go thats just MO.
Yeah, i always thought CTE and CW were pretty crap myself, i think
most people i know would say Peace Sells or Rust in peace but i have
seen those album covers almost every day for about 12 years, so they
don't really catch my eye as much anymore

Yeah, I noticed every song sounds like its from a previous Deth album.
Blackmail the Universe - Rust in Peace
Die Dead Enough - Cryptic Writings
Kick the Chair - Rust in Peace (a lot like Take No Prisoners)
The Scorpion - Countdown or Youthanasia
Tears in a Vial - Cryptic Writings
Back in the Day - Killing is my Business
Something That I'm Not - Youthanasia
Truth Be Told - Countdown or Youthanasia
Of Mice and Men - Cryptic Writings
My Kingdom Come - Countdown

Yeah i would have made the exact comparison, maybe would have likened

I heard Megadeth was gonna go on a big summer tour will a few other bands this summer, do you guys know who they might tour with? The New album is good stuff, I was a big Megadeth fan in high school but then I started listening to underground bands for the past couple of years. Megadeth still owns.

I think they are going to tour this summer. I know that they're coming to Sweden Rock (along with Yngwie Malmsteen, Anthrax, Dream Theater and Black Label Society). I hope I can afford it :)

Indeed they best

I now have:
Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good!
Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?
R.I.P.
So Far So Good So What?
and
Youthnasia.
I went on a spree yesterday
Youthnasia is deffinitley the best Megadeth album of the latter days, where Megadeth went more melodic towards the end of their carreer this rocks just as hard as RIP, deffinitley a good album.
The rest are good too, I was a little disapointed by So Far.. but there's still some good tunes off it.

Yeah, the whole fanfare thing is really ill-suited.
Its strange, cuz I figured SFSGSW would sound better without all the annoying effects (Hell, I even thought I smelled BS when I hard a reviewer saying that the new version was crap) but it really just ends up sounding thin and empty. Kind of disappointing, considering that some of Deth's best work is on that album

MD.45 is worth buying if you like Youthanasia, it has a somewhat similar feel. Hidden Treasures would be a better pick, Angry Again and Breakpoint are worth the album alone!

I have the remastered version and I've never heard the original. Which do you guys think is better?
Peace Sells is blood catchy, I like it alot :)
I like the slow balled type intros to the last few songs too. I'm happy I bought it, good buy :)

Youthanasia has 3-4 good songs on it (reckoning day, a tout le monde, addicted to chaos and train of consiquences) ...... interms of their "latter days" stuff you cant go past countdown, or even the world needs a hero ( its more consistant, however its good songs arnt as good....if that makes sence...) and the system has failed.

Really?!
I live in Canberra, there's a JB like 20 minutes away, I don't usually go there, but I did go there looking for both KIMB and Peace sells (Since no other store I checked had them) and JB didn't have them either, I just ordered Peace sells off HMV, and unless I can find a store which stocks KIMB I'm guessing that's what I'll have to do.

Also, theres alot of Aussies in this thread :thumb:
