ANyone got any recommendations on what to add to my collection next? I've got in order;

The System Has Failed
Rust In Peace
Peace Sells But Who's Buying
Countdown To Extinction

My least favourite of the four would be Peace Sells...I just can't get into it as much as the others.

Aw3someman
08-09-2006, 02:30 PM
Well he wrote some of the solos for Kill 'Em All. And many of the riffs for The Four Horsemen. But Kill 'Em All is nowhere near Metallica's best album. MoP or RtL are in that position.

Megadeth I think were always thrashier and way cooler than Metallica. Especially Dave, which makes them, in my eyes, better.

I actually think either of the demoes (Power Metal, or No Life 'Til Leather), are better then Kill 'em All. They're both sped up versions of Kill 'em All, with Mustaine on Lead guitar.

Of course, the quality is extremely poor (It's even worse then mine when I set up a microphone in my shed! :p), and the songs aren't as complete as they are on Kill 'em All (And they're not all there), but it's just some of the little subtleties in the songs. I always thought Kirk pwned the Jump In The Fire solo, then I heard Mustaine's and realized why...

Too long have Australian Metal fans waited for a touring Metal Festival…
Too long have they felt envious of U.S & European headbangers…
Too much like Yoda does this press release sound…

Enter GIGANTOUR, the fast and furious traveling festival that was hailed last year by Revolver magazine as "the mother of all shred festivals" will kick off its first trip to Australia in October.

The brainchild of MEGADETH frontman DAVE MUSTAINE, GIGANTOUR will savage its way down the East Coast in October. MEGADETH will make their triumphant return on a bill that includes fellow heavy-hitters Soulfly, Arch Enemy, Caliban and more.

"This is the concert that I, as a heavy metal music fan, would want to see," says MUSTAINE who handpicks the acts personally. "It is going to be something to look forward to each year, to see what kind of tremendous talent we can assemble, for GIGANTOUR festivals in the years to come."

Having not being to Australia since their 2002 sold out tour, Soulfly will be making their presence felt on GIGANTOUR with their fierce, unrelenting, heavy and foreboding sounds. As expected of Max Cavalera, it is metal for the daring. Never safe and always engaging,

Metal titans ARCH ENEMY - whose dynamic cocktail of melody and aggression has earned them massive critical acclaim, a rabid worldwide fan base and a slot on this summer’s GIGANTOUR in the US. Arch Enemy gathered an army of fans on their 2005 tour and are set to light a fire under the *** of metal fans that missed them last time.

Rounding off GIGANTOUR is German’s finest Metalcore exponents, Caliban. Named after the wild, deformed slave in Shakespeare's “The Tempest”, Caliban are currently at their most creative ever. Brutal guitar staccato-salvos, complex alternate bombastic and clear walls of guitar, beautiful harmonies that consistently flair up and incredible rhythm, combined with this one of the most dynamic live shows going around that will knock the socks off every metal-core fan.

Make no mistake…this is the Metal event of the year…this is GIGANTOUR.

Posted by some guy on the Megadeth forums

So I was at the record store yesterday, and the cashier handed me this CD as I was leaving. On the cover it read ROADRUNNER RECORDS and on the back it read “The Definition of Dominance and there were 15 tracks. 15 songs from 15 different bands. There was some Hatebreed, Dragonforce, Opeth, Still Remains, you name it… but… there wasn’t 15 tracks. After the 15th song played through and finished, did the disc stop? No… there was one more track. Song #16, a 30 second long snippet of some real fast, trashy riff, then it cuts out…

It has been rumored to be a snippet off the new Megadeth album

Of Mice and Men? Come on. Or what about Risk. Or really I should say, good metal. No?
Ummm, just because he makes one or two non-metal songs, doesn't mean he's stopped making metal. Plus, afaik, Friedman had a lot to do with Risk.

Damnit Mustaine, write metal again.
So what was TSHF?
Pop-punk?

You can rip yourself off by making a ****ty sequel song to Hangar 18 with a similar sound, with similar lyrics and song structure...idiot. Ooh...
Yeah I mean Megadeth are the only band to ever have used the same song structure in 2 songs.
It's not like it's important. So what if he ripped his own song off?

You my friend... are a dumbass. Not only do you fail to recognize that Return to Hangar 18 is a sequel, which should be obvious from the very name, you also fail to realize it is impossible to rip off your own song. Plagiarism isn't defined as using your own material. You can't rip off material that you created and have the rights too. Plagiarism is using somebody else's ideas and presenting them as your own. Mustaine when he wrote a sequel to Hangar 18 wasn't plagiarisng (ripping off) his own work. He simply took a popular song he had created and changed the song structure and the lyrics slightly to make a similar song that represents the same style that the original song was created with. He created a sequel. :smash: There's a new idea nobody's ever heard of...

Sequels always suck. You can rip off your own song, he did. It's a lame attempt at recapturing the magic hangar 18 has. I didn't say he plagarized, he ripped it off, there is a difference. Ripping something off is taking an idea, (whether it's your own or not) and changing it a bit, making it different, but you can still tell it's just a pale imitation of one of Deth's greatest songs.

It's not pop punk, it's a couple of okay songs, with a couple of really bad songs.

It's not just the same structure that bothers me, it's that he tried to make another good song out of a great song, and failed miserably. I think it's really lame with lines like "still two words that can't make sense!", and how it fails to be a good sequel at all. It's like Zorro 2.

Well, Priest and Venom aren't really part of the NWOBHM, nor Motorhead, because they were around before in Priest and Motorhead's case and a little after in Venom's.
Angel Witch and Tygers are pretty good, as Are Diamond head, I saw them supporting 'deth last year. They were excellent.
You might want to try Samson, who had Bruce "God" Dickinson singing for them before he joined Maiden, and maybe Toad the wet Sprocket, Wytchfynder, Preying Mantis, heh, Maybe even Ethel The Frog

Well, he played Washington's Next at Gigantour, so I spose it's sort of been released.

Yeah, amazing how I couldn't find it anywhere

Heres what someone said about it

I would place it more towards RIP simply because most of the song is fast. It's got complicated guitar riffs and its pretty long. I can tell that it's probably going to be favorite in the upcoming album. I went to go pre-order the UA CD but after buying the last years Gigantour DVD, I didn't havge enough money so I guess i'll just have to wait until it comes out next year. The crowd for the Boise show was a decient size. I suppose that there isn't a large metal scene here, the crowd in CA was a lot larger. But An interesting fact that I heard during the concert, Dave announced that he used to live in Idaho. He gave us a friendly "Howdy Neighbor". Maybe that's why they decided to start in Boise this year.

They also played the full version of it with vocals at the latest show.

If they're playing new songs on Gigantour, then I'm sure bootlegs will appear in a couple of weeks.

SFSGSW is a pretty good album. Set the World Afire and In My Darkest Hour are flippin genius, Mary Jane is great, Hook, Liar, and Lungs are pretty good, but 502 is just terrible, and so is Anarchy.

I don't think 502 is the greatest, but it's not bad..

Mary Jane is the highlight in my opinion, could it almost be considered prog? The riffs change so much, isn't that the definition of prog?

Edit: In My Darkest Hour is pretty good too.

The only track I don't really like much on SFSGSW is Liar. The rest range from amazing to damn good.
