I'd LOVE to hear Five Magics live, and another one I love is Into the Lungs of Hell... The Conjuring too, and Rattlehead would be sick! Also, Victory, I can't get enough of that solo...
Off TSHF I'd have to say that the first three tracks (Blackmail the Universe, Die Dead Enough, and Kick the Chair) are my faves. I'm so glad that Megadeth didn't go the route of Metallca.

DON'T waste your money on Cryptic Writings, its one of the weakest rock albums ever released.
You should first buy all the albums from Kill Is mY Buisness through RIP, then Countdown To Extinction and The System Has Failed, and then, and only then, you should very cautiously take a peek at all the other albums, simply cuz they suck.

I think the best way to get Hidden Treasures is to buy it through Amazon, because finding it in stores is next to impossible, not only that but they have discontinued it, as well. I got it used (but its in perfect condition) from amazon.ca for $14 Can (this already included shipping/handling/tax). You can try amazon.com if your from the states or elsewhere.
Hidden Treasures is an EP they released in 1995, that includes cover, soundtrack, and one-off songs. It is indeed a treasure!!!

yes, among 8 other awesome songs. :thumb:
I personally think that Peace Sells is indeed a bit overrated, and SFSGSW a bit underrated. (Although I still say RiP is their best work.) Both are still amazing albums, though. SFSGSW has such killers as Into the Lungs of Hell, Set the World Afire, Mary Jane, In My Darkest Hour, and Hook in Mouth.

SFSGSW is their weakest album of their olden days. Chuck Beyher just wasnt fit for the band IMO (espically meshed between Gar and Menza) and although its a great album its not the best example of the bands sound. I do wish Jeff Young got to do more with the band, he was a wicked lead player.

Ok, i just spent the time to read all ****in 22 pages of this thread (yeah i gotta lot of time, but its about Megadeth and i got my guitar by my side)... so i would like to respond.
First off, i guess I'm a "newbie" for Megadeth, only got into them for a year and i dont own many of they're albums (first one, COPY of Rust in Peace), but i've been praising them ever since and playing their **** on guitar the whole time among other things. They are freakin awesome...period!
The new album is good, although i was baffled a little listening to it the first time. Not too much thrash and the chours to Die Dead Enough kinda sounded funny (backround vocals sounded kinda pop-ish, but now its stuck in my head...lol). Kick the Chair got me into it and ive been exicted ever since...some weak points on it, but i need to listen more then once. I have to say though...the instrumental..."Shadow of Deth" sounds amazing...i wish they soloed over that i would have crapped my pants.
They are touring, and i must be there, as soon as there available...NYC...Megadeth, gonna be amazing...best of year probably (cept for BLS/Slayer/Priest/Sabbath at Ozzfest this year). I hope they do like Metallica and tour for like ever...come bakc again so i can go again (seeing Metallica twice on this tour of their's...they might have sold out but they put on amazing shows).
I personally cant figure out why people bash Youthanaisa...it ****ing rules...as soon as i head the opening riff to Reckoning Day...i knew the whole album was solid. Reckoning Day, Train of Consquense, Addicted to Chaos, A Tout le Monde, Killing Road, Youthanasia, Family Tree, I thought I knew it all, Black curtains, and Victory (for the solo esp) were all amazing. I practically learned the entire album on guitar after i heard it. It's not Rust in Peace, but its great none the less.
Rust in Peace...best album in my opinion...Holy Wars, Hanger 18, Tornado of souls, Rust in Peace...amazing (i only name those cause those are the only ones i know how to play  ). CTI also good and so is Youthanasia and the new release. I'll do the best i can to get some of the remasters that i dont have (probabaly buy em all) and then make a better judgement.
I agree to stop fighting about Metallica vs Megadeth. As much as i wanna say Metallica sucks for selling out and making Load-St.anger, the first 5 albums are AMAZING...to listen to and to play. And their concerts are amazing, seen 2 so far and id like to go to everyone in the area. So far, i havent head everything Megadeth, but if Rude Awakening is any indication, their show would be ****in amazing too. As far as im concerned, Metallica crapped out and sold out...but Hetfield is still one of the best music writers i know of...as so is Mustaine (Mustaine's lyrics are extremely well written i dont know how you can think otherwise). They both "matured" because of the music industry and environment...but i like TSHF much more then St Anger...Anger sounds too 'nu-metal' and i hate nu-metal (not to mention i play lead guitar and when your favorite band at the time lets you down with no lead after previously having some amazing solos, you tend to see the big picture as a guitar player and music fan, not as a metallica fan).
Lol...i guess thats enough for now, i type way to much if you havent realized yet  but whatever. Anyone know what kinda Set list we'd be getting on this tour...i hope its kinda like Rude Awakening plus a few songs off the new album.

im thinking Dave will resurect some old songs he neglected in the past, much like Metallica have been doing these past two tours, and will put some of the "concert musts" like In my Darkest Hour, Hanger 18, etc...aside for a tour to allow space for some more obscure tracks. Ive seen Megadeth three times and some songs you just dont want to hear live 4 times when you havent heard your favourite song by them (in my case "99 ways to die") once so far. you get my point.

Rust in Peace is IMO, their best. Peace Sells is also great, as are Killing is My Business and So Far So Good So What. However, those are their thrash albums, so if you don't like thrash that much, I'd go for Youthanasia, and The System Has Failed is a lot like CTE :thumb:

Yes, I know they're not Megadeth's thrash albums, but I just started into MD about a month ago, or so, and now I own 11 of their albums, 9 of them being original albums from the line. The thrash albums are yet to grow on me completely :-X

Check this:
chartattack.com, the Canadian music source reports that Megadeth founder/singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine has every right to be pissed. The original lead guitarist for Metallica 20 years ago, he’s been getting screwed over by them via taunting and/or being outright ignored for years.
And now they’re screwing with him again. This time around, the kick in the *** comes prior to the release of Megadeth’s 10th official studio effort This System Has Failed (Sanctuary/EMI). While Mustaine has a number of lucid comments on This System Has Failed [the album speaks for itself frankly], the sordid Megadeth history and his own career, it’s when he’s able to vent about the Metallica movie Some Kind Of Monster that his wit and frustration truly come out.
"Everyone says how the part with me [in the movie] is the most intense. Yeah, because I’m the only one who thinks Lars is a punk," he continues. "Everyone else is afraid of him. He looks like a ****in’ Eminem wannabe right now. Anyone who watches that movie and doesn’t realize that whoever comes into contact with Lars hates him… If you watch the movie closely, you see that Lars treats everyone so badly. They all end up in therapy! Even the counselor ended up in therapy!"
Mustaine has always been vocal about his issues with Metallica. But he feels most scorned that they couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge him at all until it served their purposes.
"For years [Metallica] said I wasn’t important to them; that I was a temporary guitar player or they never said anything about me," he says. "But now all of a sudden I’m so important that they need me in their movie. Were you lying then or are you lying now? Why am I so important that I need to be in your stupid movie? And when I told them I didn’t want it used — I told the director I didn’t approve of it — and they went ahead and used it. Then Lars goes online and says he doesn’t understand why I’m so pissed off. You didn’t listen to me! Then when he catches wind that I’m getting sick of his crap he says, ‘Aww, I just want to hug Dave. I’m sexually attracted to him.’ What the hell happened to you?"
Mustaine also says that classic Metallica songs such as "Jump In The Fire" and "The Four Horsemen" are his. Along with a number of others.
"Not only [the songs on] Kill ‘Em All, but 'Ride The Lightning' title track, 'Call Of Kthulu,' parts of 'Leper Messiah…' listen to parts of 'Leper Messiah' and then 'Ride The Lighting.' It’s that same spider chord. I invented that! How the hell can you not credit me for writing that?"
Mustaine has his own answer.
"James [Hetfield] didn’t want to give me credit because he’s jealous of me. His whole frontman persona he copped from me. In the beginning of the band, he just sang and I did all the guitar work. When he was done singing, he’d walk away from the microphone and I had to walk up to the mic and talk. I’m like, ‘What’s wrong with this picture? I’m getting your beer tonight!’ I think the most disappointing thing out of all of it is that when you look at all of the accomplishments they’ve made over the years, people are trying to make me invisible. My career’s been successful; I’ve had a blast while I’m here but it would have been nice if Metallica fans really knew what my contribution was instead of them saying there wasn’t any."
Not that it will matter much longer as the Metallikats seem to be desperately bailing that sinking ship. Regardless, Mustaine is blunt. It still hurts.
"I don’t want to look bad on anybody, but it’s like the Flight Of Icarus: if you fly too high, you’ll melt your wings," Mustaine says. "I think there are so many people that are happy it’s over; that they’re failing. I don’t wish that on James at all. I really don’t care about Kirk — he stole my job, but at least I got to bang his girlfriend before he took my job — how do I taste, Kirk? I do miss James though, even though we’ll never work together again. With the silence, it’s like, what are you afraid of? If I have to be in the movie, then obviously I mattered. Why didn’t you say in the movie, ‘Hey listen, I’ve been a twat because for 20 years. I pretended you were invisible.’ Then I would have been like, ‘OK! You can put my part in!’"
"I really don’t care about Kirk — he stole my job, but at least I got to bang his girlfriend before he took my job — how do I taste, Kirk?"

If I didn't, I wouldn't have a problem with him making an *** of himself by constantly clinging on to and bringing up a conflict that should be dead and buried ages ago. ugh, some of you people are off by alot.
I didnt read every post, but heres the scoop with the Metallica/Mustaine situation:
Lars and Dave are good friends, regardless of "Some Kind of Monster," Dave talks to Kirk on occasion. Dave and James havent really talked about it all (according to Hetfield himself).
Megadeth rules, Rust in Peace, Cryptic Writings and Countdown to Extinction being my personal favourites. Personally, I dont think Ellefson gets enough credit as a bass player, as he rules (up there with Steve Harris, Cliff Burton and Geddy Lee, in my opinion).
anyway, I hope they make their way to Calgary, I'd love to see them live.

they remastered it in 2001 because the original recording was terrible. The remaster (which is easily found anywhere) is a metal jewel. Last Rites, Rattlehead, The Skull Beneath the Skin...some of Dave's best work not to mention most agressive, id say i play that album more than the rest and after three Megadeth live shows ive only seen "the mechanix" played off of it. we shall see this time around.

I have the newer version of Rust in Peace with bonus tracks. There are three demos of the title track, Holy Wars, and Take No Prisoners. They're all of "demo" quality, Chris's solos are pretty boring when compared to Marty's, and Dave... well, Dave is wasted. There's also an original song called "My Creation" but it's not much different in Dawn Patrol; a minute and a half of NOTHING HAPPENS.

Ahhhh but they are very very mainstream.
They have built an image of being "cool" when Megadeth haven't. Those bands get it a lot easier.
Plus, bands like Sum 41 are doing things right. They have the image of a punk rocker which nowadays seems to be "cool". So they are doing things right. By right I mean, making idiotic mainstream music likers think they are cool and will be cool if they listen to their music. Megadeth were doing things for real rockers, not a bunch of trend puppets.

Yes.....here's another one of those people, plenty at my school that are the same way
the only reason you hate dave is because
1. You heard metallica first, and since dave hates james and lars, you hate him.
2. You are probably close-minded.
3. You haven't heard the rythm's and solo's that Megadeth has created that totally blow away most of Metallica's
Yes, i love both bands and listen to them all the time
Now please be a good boy and delete your post

totally agree, im sick of hearing people say that. And yes Five Magics is an excellent song (my favourite).
Lucretia is also a very solid track as well, the whole album is! I actually like Dawn Patrol because it gives you a lil break before the masterwork of Rust in Peace...Polaris.

It's just so great!
Just got The System Has Failed - Wow.
Great album, I have never really experienced Megadeth before this (A few of their, well 'better- known' songs (i.e. Early Dave-Metallica music)). And have to say this is great!
K, that is all.

I am getting tickets to see Megadeth play in Toronto, Ontario – Nick Menza is back with Megadeth and I am sure Glen Drover & James MacDonough will make it just a mesmerizing show. It would have been nice to see Junior (David Ellefson) on bass and Mr. Marty Friedman on guitars as like of the RIP line-up, but times and people change.
My favorite Megadeth album currently is Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?
KIMB : Rattlehead
KIMB : Looking Down the Cross
PSBWB : Peace Sells…
PSBWB : Good Mourning/Black Friday
So Far, So Good, So What? : In my Darkest Hour

I gotta say, I LOVE The System Has Failed, after Metallica let me down with Load to St. Anger (although Garage Inc. ****ing ruled) I was wondering if the old Gods had finally tanked, and then TSHF struck me like a thunderbolt hurled from a flying V and smote me with furious anger and utterly ridiculous awesomeness. Every single song on the album is ****ing unbelievable! My favs though are "Of Mice And Men", "Tears In A Vial", "Kick The Chair" and lastly "Die Dead Enough" (which is seriously mullet worthy, especially with a sing-a-long Maiden style hook).
Those remasters own my soul as well, the sound quality... egads... I love it!

There's a distinctive difference between TSHF and St Anger. TSHF is good, St Anger is absolute ****. The only reason people even bother comparing them is cuz they're both released by bands who are cloosely related, and whos both taken realtively long times of absence. TSHF is also the first lisetnable album released by Megadeth since CTE

Megadeth's new album = fantastic
Metallica's newest album= why did they write this?
Megadeth have had the upper hand on Metallica for years and are still putting out much more diverse and memorable records, if Dave wasn't in Metallica in 1983 people wouldnt even compare them anymore.

die dead enough is so good it makes me feel physically ill, oh man it just sends chills up my spine becuase i can relate to it like nothing else, always been the underdog following in the shadows of others being made to feel second rate. ya know what i mean, like , cut your hair metal fag, or guitars suck, or listen to eminem or be shunned by your town. or this is so immature, or, youll never make a living out of this and youll never succeed. god im thinking about adding that song to my bands set.

Dave Mustaine wrote some of the most memorable and outstanding classics on Kill 'em All (Jump In The Fire, Phantom Lord, Metal Militia (Mechanix was written by Mustaine in his first band Panic, it was featured on the No Life Till Leather demo tape... Metallica later changed the lyrics and lengthened the song reducing the tempo but adding another solo.)
This comes to the point where people say that Dave ripped Mechanix of the Four Horsemen when it was the other way around. Ride The Lightning (self-titled track) and Call of Ktulu and some of the highlights in that album (RTL).
Megadeth was never given much recognition, KIMB is a master-piece of thrash metal, Peace Sells has to be one of the greatest records of it's Era, SFSGSW has a lot of memorable tracks and RIP speaks for itself :)
I am quite disappointed to see Nick Menza no longer with Megadeth on the new tour without any explanation as to why, to sum my opinion on Megadeth, “Icons of metal and Legends in there own-era.” :thumb:

I am getting into Megadeath and i want to get one of their cd's (im sorry this sounds noobish but i dont know which one to get) and i wanted opinions from real Megadeath fans... so I'm thinking either Rust in Peace or Peace Sells... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
You really can't go wrong with Rust in Peace or Peace Sells, those are their two best. Get both, then get Killing is My Business, Countdown to Extinction, and So Far So Good So What.
That setlist is okay, I'd prefer it if they played some of their "non essentials" like Good Morning Black Friday or Take No Prisoners or Ashes in Your Mouth. And I'd like to hear Back in the Day and Blackmail the Universe over Something I'm Not... anyway, I'm sure it will still be sick! 17 days its so far away dammit!!!
