What songs did he cover?

lightningmetal666
10-17-2005, 01:49 PM
What songs did he cover?

Holy Wars and Take No Prisoners.

I found that both were good but some noticable (but barely) mistakes were made but as the late Jack Black said "Rock ain't about doing things perfect." The only thing that seemed weird to me was his tone. I don't know if it was the recording software he used but the tone seemed nowhere near as scooped as it should've be for the rhythm, particularly in the part just a little bit past the first verse. There's some nice heavy palm muting that sounds killer and wasn't in mathia's cover. He did the chords right but need to pull some more of the mids out for that killer Megadeth tone.

4.5/5 for mathias.:thumb:

BTW Mathias, Superior job on the leads. I've seen the tabs to some of those bends on holy wars, and I was like "How the F*ck am I gonna pull this off ?"

Nicely done.

Themadhatter

He's been talking about it in some of his latest posts:

Now that I have made my decision I know I am going to have an extremely busy next few years, at least three to five with Megs if we get a good record contract, and hopefully at least ten with Gigantour. 2006 will have a new band, a new record, Gigantour North America, and possibly Gigantour Oz/Japan, as well as the DVD and CD for Gigantour, and the Megs DVD and CD from tonight, and what seems to be a Gigantour South America at the end of next year, I will be busy, busy, busy.
--
Anyway, I spent the whole day listening to riffs and thinking about how to start the next record, the artwork, song titles, etc. I think my brain is itching and swelling, and this may be a good thing, or maybe not. Two shows to go, and then it is off to demo-ville.
--
There's more, I just can't find it.

Albums... get Rust in Peace first. If you like thrash more, then get Killing is my Business next, if you don't, then Countdown to Extinction.

Should probably get Peace Sells too, even though I think its really overrated.

Songs:
Take No Prisoners
Tornado of Souls
Skull Beneath the Skin
Rattlehead
The Conjuring
Into the Lungs of Hell
In My Darkest Hour
High Speed Dirt
Victory
She-Wolf

Really? From the sound of it, it sounded quite scooped. Maybe he's just awesome at palm muting then.

I can get an awesome thrash tone at this eq (bass=10, mid=3, treble=6) on my line 6 spider II and it sound incredibly killer.

What gear did you have? I'm not trying to be picky about your playing because it was awesome, but trying to figure out what went wrong with the tone.

I can't imagine getting any distorted tone out of my Spider II that I would classify as 'killer'.

Schecter C-1 Classic --> DS-1 --> Roland Cube 15 --Line out--> crap sound card

Settings:
Bridge pickup (JB)

DS-1:

Don't really care much for Dave's tone either, it sounds very thin to me. And the whole scooped out á la Dimebag - he didn't popularize it, 80's shredders did. There are supposedly tons of stories about how aspiring young Yngwie wannabes have dialed in their tone a t a club or something, only to be completely drowned out by the chatter from the crowd cuz they had scooped out the mids way too much

That being said, I'm still amazed at how he managed to have that tone and still not annoy the living sh*t outta me. Hmmm, musta been those arse-kicking solos...

i adore dave's tones when he solos, but i don't usually like the tone he uses when he plays riffs. i think, like arise, that it is very 'thin', and kind of weak and hollow sounding. really, i listen to megadeth for the solos, although i love their songs too - thats the focal point. who doesn't? :thumb:

Go into the file and highlight all of them, right click then send to zipped folder. All the songs should go to a zipped folder within the album folder and you can upload that.

The remastered Killing is my Business album has some really solid playing. You really can hear how great Gar Samuelson is on there since the quality is improved. KIMB drumming > PSBWB drumming IMO.

People do not realize how good Menza is on Rust in Peace. Poison was the cure, Take No Prisoners, Five Magics and yes Rust in Peace...Polaris are all very tight.

I'm no drummer but I think Megadeth has far better drumming than Metallica. I have a friend who's a drummer and is in my GB class and he says that Lars has the absolute gayest fills during cool guitar riffs and solos. He says that it totally kills the song IE Sanitarium.

I think that megadeth's drummer sounds a lot better. (and isn't money hungry either)

Happy

Any megadeth drummer>Lars. Lars has recycled a few drumbeats from the black album to present. It's quite funny, He can hardly play to save his life. And most of the drumtracks on St Anger were looped on Computer so Lars didn't have to play whole songs.

It has been done thousands of times.

The general answer is:

Dave > Kirk - For Riffing

Kirk > Dave - For Solos

When I saw them, Dave gave a speech about how he was happy to be back in San Diego, and that Megadeth would be back. And as well he said that depending on the success of the Gigantour would determine if it would be held again, I think it was pretty successful.

I would be really pissed if Dave joined Metallica again. For starters, Megadeth would be done, and it would seem that Dave would value Metallica more than Megadeth by going back. There are both great bands in their own right, so let's just leave it at that.

Every linguist I've met will disagree. It's actually one of the easier ones. Dramatic languages are harder to learn than Romantic ones. I think they said a couple of Chinese dialects were the hardest.

He didn't want to come back when Mustaine originally asked, and then earlier this year he tried to sue Mustaine for $20 million, so I can't see him being in Megadeth again. I think it will be a long time before Mustaine forgives him.

No.

After the band broke-up due to Dave's injury, they all went their separate ways. Then when Dave reformed the band, he asked all the members from the Rust In Peace line-up to rejoin for The System Has Failed. They all refused, although Nick Menza was originally going to tour with them, but he was injured.

Then sometime this year, Ellefson tried to sue Dave.

19 million albums doesn't mean he has $20 million, it has to be split amongst the guys, spent on band expenses ect. And don't forget only a small percentage of the record sale actually goes to the band. I'd be suprised if Dave had $2 million.

"Mustaine's suit, which seeks damages to be determined, was filed in response to Ellefson's original action, filed July 12 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, which alleges that co-founding guitarist David Mustaine breached their long-running partnership agreement. He claims Mustaine wrongfully took the lion's share of the band's gross income (estimated at more than $200 million since 1984) for himself and cut Ellefson out of the band's music publishing and merchandise revenues "

Robbie Williams recently got signed in England for £80m. That's a huge contract, but if 'Deth got even a fraction of that for like a 6 album deal, they'd be loaded. Plus merchandise, music sales and the money Dave probably makes on like... Gigantour.

He'd kick you off the forums or something. He seems like a pretty scary guy.
I don't have any posts on the forum anyway. I'm too scared to post.

LoL

My friend and I make up all these jokes of Dave breaking peoples legs...
it's almost one of those things you have to see to get

Because he broke that dude who dissed Lars' leg right. Methinks he should've just saved us all and broken Lars' so he could never play drums again.

That would have been so cool!

I wonder what Tallica would be like without him?

There probably wouldn't be much of a Metallica without Lars. He is a crappy drummer but he is a good business man.

Yea..that's true.

I bet Dave could have drummed better then Lars (I wouldn't be suprised
Dave has talant)

You never know, I'd say he probably is seeing as he writes a lot of drums for Megadeth ( I think)

Yep. that's true

I want to see Dave and James H jam together

Drummers are often not given writing credits, in many genres and bands.

Just a sad fact.

However... In the Remastered RIP, he mentions about 'My Creation' that it was a beat he'd been playing around with since High School or something stupid like that. So I guess he drums.

Well I guess after being around drums for 20+ years you are bound to learn at some point.

Then why does Lars have songwriting credits on almost every Metallica song?

He writes lyrics I think and tries to write guitar parts. And the drum tracks.

I didn't say no drummers get recognition. Just some don't get writing credits.

And he arranges the songs, like structure and stuff. Him and James write most of them. He tells James what sounds like arse.

How would he know what sounds like arse? Doesn't he ever listen to his own drumtracks?

Do you guys think Dave is as good of a lead guitarist as Kirk?

Britton
10-25-2005, 10:56 PM
He's not as good a lead player but he is a better all around player.

And can we please stop with these conversations

I think Lars gets writing credits because he helps arrange the songs.

What do you guys think is the best album cover? I like Rust In Peace and the original KIMB.

Probably Rust In Peace, although none of Megadeth's artwork is particularly great.

Youthanasia and the Remastered KIMB.

Same as Rust in Peace.. Polaris, he says it was his drum rhythm (At least for the intro of the included [Demo] song), I think he took drumming lessons some time in his life?
