I think that has to do with where you are. If you're on the left, you'll hear the guitar on the left louder, likewise the other way around.

Yeha I think that has something to do with it, but on Live recordings you can barely hear the lead guitar.
Also download wa sopen air and the wind was blowing and it sounded rather dodgey.

I'm having trouble making the following riff from Lucretia sound good. Every time I go for it at it's normal speed, I get a bunch of ringing notes I don't want. But when I attempt it slow, I can keep them muted fairly decently. I'm just having a lot of problems keeping them quiet when I speed it up. Any tips?

Looks like Dave has decided to keep on going with Megadeth. :thumb: He had me worried for a while, but I'm very happy with his decision.

This is from the Megadeth website.

THIS JUST IN:
"YES, MEGADETH IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO PLAY"
DAVE MUSTAINE makes his announcement after a special version of "Coming Home" to the Argentinian crowd at the sold out show in Buenos Aires.
"I told you earlier tonight that I was gonna let all of you know first before the rest of the world what our decision was - whether or not we were gonna continue with MEGADETH or not," MUSTAINE said before playing a special rendition of "Coming Home", with the song's lyrics changed from the original "I'm coming home to Arizona" to "I'm coming home to Argentina." Immediately after the song, MUSTAINE said "The answer is yes."
MEGADETH will continue as a band. MEGADETH will record a new album. MEGADETH will continue to play.

Sorry if you guys already saw this.

Ummm.. No?!

Well i cant think of anything better that they have done post Black Album

I was never a huge Metallica fan though, apart from the whole of Kill 'Em All and a few songs off Justice....which happened to be the years Dave (wrote most of the stuff off Kill 'Em All) and Cliff were still in the band.

Nah. I <3 Garage Inc.

Garage Inc. is alright but theres a lot of 'meh' on it and Hetfields voice lost some of its edge IMO

Good to hear that megadeth is still going on.

I'm still trying to get down Holy Wars on guitar. (that whole RIP guitar book scares me and I've been playing for over 3 years AND am a Music Major) It's getting to the point where I'll pick up my Master of Puppets book for a while because it's easier to play. LOL. I guess that's a testament to the awesomeness of Megadeth.

For those who have the book, don't even bother with trying to learn Poison was the Cure. I think it was a typo but it says to play 8th notes at 320 bpm. Sorry but I don't know ANYONE that can play that fast. (I mean marty is freakin' awesome, but I doubt even he can play that fast).

8th notes at 320 isn't very fast, that's 16ths at 160. Even I can do that...

16ths at 320... I doubt Dave would be able to play it.

It's something about mother's against swearing and violence in movies. Some politic heard her son listening to WASP and was appauled so she formed PMRC. They're kinda the reason for parental advisory stickers and censorship in music.

MAthiAS recorded the full Holy Wars some time ago, and I'm sure he has only improved since then... Whether he's willing to take the time to get it down again...

Actually, I have a question about Holy Wars.. The intro at least (All I can do), would you pick each note for it, or say use hammer-ons and pull-offs for it, only playing the first note for each triple?

And yeah, Megadeth > Metallica :D No interest in FF though.

I'd record the leads and rhythm if needed for Holy Wars. Five Magics... if I put the effort in I might be able to play those leads, but I'm already working on like 5 songs.

I'm weird like that, I learn songs exactly one lick at a time, and I usually can't get one up to speed in just one sitting. So I end up learning many songs at a time slowly. Right now its:

Cacophony - Concerto
Pagannini - 24th Caprice
Jason Becker - Serrana (probably won't finish this one any time soon :upset: )
Pagannini - 22nd Caprice excerpt
Pagannini - 5th Caprice

In order of when I started them, and I'm still perfecting parts from these...

Vivaldi - Summer - Presto
Pagannini - Perpetual Motion

Oh yeah, these are awesome.

My Five magics is hella sloppy though. I use a pick to get the right sound, but my string crossing with a pick over 4 strings isn't so hot :/

And my normal fingerstyle tone doesn't record well. It farts. I think I have a crap soundcard. So for recording on my computer, I use a trebly pick tone. I'm starting to prefer using a pick for metal. I don't like using it for the 5h7 10p7 bit on Holy Wars though. Infact, I find it quite hard to get the 10 in the 10p7 to sound at that pace :(

In Hook In Mouth, Dave says "As long as theres a P.M.R.C." What's a P.M.R.C.?

The PMRC was an organization in the 80's, founded by Al Gore's wife Tipper Gore, with the intent of censoring songs on albums which lyrics could be percieved as offensive.

There was quite a debate about it, and at one point, there was even this huge press conference about it, with Twisted Sisters Dee Snyder and, perhaps a bit surprisingly, John Denver (yes, the same dude that wrote "Leaving On A Jet Plane", and later, ironically, was killed in a plane crash) on the side of Rock N' Roll (obviously), and said conference even became a movie later on.

For more info about the matter at hand, I'd recommend seeing "Decline Of Western Civilization II: The Heavy Metal Years"

I've actually pondered that quite a bit. I mean, todays scape goat is rap music (and with idiots like 50 Cent and Eminem at the forefront, its no wonder), but OTOH, they are getting bashed for the same "bad" ideals as bands such as Slayer and Megadeth (amongst others) were critized for supposedly enforcing back in the 80's.

And today, we know that despite all these bands so called "violent" messages and "degenerate" lifestyles, their fans are today normal, working people like everybody else - even those who still listen to the music (take that with a grain of salt, if you will, as a lot of those older fans were parts of Gen X ;) )

So I guess the question is - when rappers are being critized for lyrics about "smackin' dem bitches" and "****in' up da white man", is history just repeating itself (its very stupid an annoying self at that, too)?

I recomend putting them on you're PC or you're MP3 (if you've got one)

that way you see all the song names and albums..and plus it's
easier that way

I get crap for this all the time, but the Power Metal version of The Mechanix is my favorite.

I agree though, lyrics aside, I like the thrashier versions of the song.
I love Power Metal, except I hate how before the guitar solo in Hit The Lights, Mustaine says "Guitar..." it annoys me :p

No Life 'Til Leather kicks *** too in my opinion.

Sorry for bringing this into the Megadeth thread :p

Why would you buy all their albums, if you didn't know if you liked them, instead of just one?

Well here you go anyway:

KIMB...ABIG:
Mechanix
Rattlehead
The Skull Beneath the Skin

PSBWHB?:
Wake Up Dead
Peace Sells
Good Mourning/Black Friday

RIP:
Holy Wars
Take No Prisoners
Five Magics
Tornado of Souls
Rust in Peace...Polaris
awesome thx. well i have them cuz my friend is obsessed with them, and so he gave them to me

What are all your thoughts on the greatest hits? I think it's pretty good but it would be much better without a few of the songs and have them replaced with Rattlehead and Tornado of Souls. I was disapointed when I found out those songs weren't on it.

I'm just really annoyed at how Dave, much like Aerosmith, is starting to release compilation after compilation. FFS, they've already got a greatest hit album out (Capitol Punishment), no point in releasing another one so soon

Exactly, same with live albums, too. Along with Iron Maiden.

We don't need to have a new live album/dvd and new greatest hits every year. Thats just stupid.

I'm not completely sure but on the greatest hits CD it advertises it. I think it's called the arsenal of Megadeth.
