hey guys! think how about awesome metallica would've been if dave mustaine didn't have a drinking/drug problem and was never kicked out of metallica. i think dave's song writing abilities combined with james song writing abilities would have been.... amazing. and not only that, think about how much of a better band metallica would have been in general if cliff didn't die!!! basically what im saying is, think about how much it would kick *** if the line up was always james, dave, cliff and lars.

i'd recomend getting cowntdown to extinction, followed by rust in peace. If u havnt heard much megadeth, then Daves vocals on rust in peace might put u off the band. Get cowntdown, and after u have "aquired" a taste for daves vocals get rust in peace, and there earlyer stuff - they rock :thumb:

Same with every single other Megadeth song compared to a Metallica song, Megadeth is much faster overall compared to them. That's another reason why Dave and James didn't get along, James wanted everything to be slower and Dave wanted to take thrash metal in a new direction and be faster and more technical.

i chose "the four horsemen" and "mechanix" as an example of the speed difference, cos bar the into "mechanix", and the interlude to the 4 horsmen, they're pretty much identical. The only thing that makes them different is the speed difference (and lyrics)

I guess so, he has a friggin black belt and does judo and stuff.

I dont think people give poland eneough credit tho, i mean he writes such awesome solos, some better than marty i find because the ones poland did sort of fit better and sounded more metally. Whereas marty gets really technical and starts wandering keys and doing relatives and then starts making other guitarists feel bad when they watch the notes fly by in powertab.

And i think we should really thank poland for doing such a huge contribution to writing alot of solos on this new album, which i cant ****ing wait to hear

Chris Poland is amazing! The work he produced on KIMB and PSBWB is unbelieveable. But I still prefer Marty though. I think its all because of Rust In Peace, the lineup on there was the best ever. Which brings me to my next point, which Megadeth lineup was your favourite and least favourite?

Mustaine/Ellefson/Samuelson/Poland

i dont have a least favourite, and i like the line up on SFSGSW. The Mustaine/Friedman/Meza/Ellefson lineup is probly my favourite, but at the same time they were also the lineup that recorded risk  (degrasso only toured with that album...... i think thats correct).

I liked the Mustaine/Ellefson/Degrasso/Pitrelli line up, not as much as Mustaine/Ellefson/Menza/Friedman or Mustaine/Ellefson/Samuelson/Poland, but i thaught it was a preety darn solid lineup.

here is my order of who was my favourite out of the drummers:

Nick Menza (he lasted the longest, and his work on Rust In Peace is top-notch and better than any other 'Deth album)

Jimmy Degrasso (close 2nd, but watching the Rude Awakening DVD made him seem like first cause he played all the songs sooooo very well)

Gar Samuelson (He is amazing too, Maybe he would have been higher if I seen a DVD or some videos of him playing or if he played in Megadeth longer)

Check Behler (cant say he was great, I didnt think he fit the band at all)

I liked Gars sort of jazz feel in the first two albums. But anyway I've been meaning to pick up rude awakening. Is it worth buying?

Five Magics
08-28-2004, 02:45 PM
Oh ya. It's a definite buy. The musicianship is perfect. Jimmy Degrasso is amazing in it, the way he played all of Gars' songs were perfect and he added his own touch in it which were: The Mechanix, Wake Up Dead, Peace Sells, & Devil's Island. The only little flaw and I do me little is Mustaine's voice live. His voice has obviously changed throughout the years (as would anyones) and it was harder for him to sing the older songs ( i think anyway). But, it is worth buying no doubt!!!

TWNAH wasn't bad, and was better than Risk, so I expect Megadeth to be getting better again, quite the contrary of Metallica.

also, anyone else think that SFSGSW is just as good as their other thrash albums? I personally think RiP is their best work easily, but their first three albums are just a tiny cut below it, and I think they're all on the same level, I can't pick a favorite.

Sure, the production is ****ty, but that doesn't change the fact that the songs ****ing rock! And why people always say thet their version of Anarchy... is the worst one ever recorded, I'll never understand

Secondly: The new album is pretty **** good actually. in fact, I dare almost say, its the best post-thrash album they've recorded - it even has a few thrash tracks on it. Apart from a few songs (like "The Scorpion", if anybody have heard it). Its an all-out kickass CD.

Myself, I really don't care for anything Megadeth released after they stopped playing thrash (except for possibly CTE, whichis a pretty good album, despite a few filler tracks). IMO, after CTE, Dave sold out like a 2$ taiwanese hooker.

I'm happy that he's finally decided to take a step back in the right direction :thumb:

IMO, Megadeth writing more stripped down mainstream stuff after Rust In Peace was due in large fact to the music scene during that time. CTE, Youthanasia, Criptic Writings, & Risk were much different than there traditional stuff, but it was still good but not as good as before.

I think the inspiration came from the fact that Rust in Peace came out during the cold war era or the height of it anyway. And what it signifies is that I think Dave got the album title from a quote he seen somewhere (dont know where), and I could be wrong with this is "May all your nuclear weapons rust in peace".

Junior wont be back, he's currently in the process of sueing Mustaine over money from past tours etc...

Dave was recently asked if he'd ever consider asking Jason Newsted to join and he said yes but he dosent think Jason could commit to a full tour as he has duties to fulfill with Voivod (im still wondering why he is with them lol).

"recipe for hate...warhorse" is a very very underrated song. That song is amazing!!!! I especially like the first solo where it sounds like a spanish guitar of some sort and then on the next solo its on electric....truly deadly. That heavy part before the next part of the song is solid too. "Losing my senses" is good too, very under-rated again. I still cant believe people dont give that album more respect. But the new album sucks. The 3 songs alot of people have heard already (Kick The Chair, Blackmail The Universe and Die Dead Enough) are the best on it. It really does suck, by st. anger proportions. And ellefeson is sueing :(

Dude, how would you know what sucks and what doesn't? Especially when the CD hasen't been released yet. Also, the best song I've heard from the CD thus far has been The Scorpion(which is on The System Has Failed Promo CD along with the rest you quoted...).

Even then, I've only heard those 4 songs out of 11 on the CD and I can't judge the rest of the CD. Although, from what I heard, I think it sounds as good as Risk, but not as heavy as their earlier CDs, but still good.

Don't judge unless you've heard the ENTIRE thing, and even then, don't judge from one listening--some of the greatest music has to be heard a few times to really feel the music.

very much so. i brought the album with me tonight when i was working (pizza delivery) and as usual i always love it more and more. People also leave out the wonderful lyrical aspect of Dave Mustaine, TWNAH has some wonderful well thought out lines that people overlook...espically on the tracks we talked about. TWNAH is an album that did have to grow on me, as when it came out i was still in high school and stuck in the "its its not fast i dont like it" phase lol, but as time has ran its course i find myself ejoying songs by my favourite bands that i onced used to skip over on the albums, Promises being a key one. i bought Cryptic Writings when it first came out and ive been a diehard fan ever since :) im glad you enjoy those more obscure tracks, i tire of people praising Rust In Peace over and over when they have so much more to them than just one album.

MASSIVE BUMP FROM PAGE 6!!

ICED EARTH Bassist Quits To Join MEGADETH

ICED EARTH bassist James MacDonough has officially left the band to join MEGADETH as their touring bassist. MacDonough's statement on the matter (as posted at Iced-Realm.de) is as follows:

"A while back I had heard that MEGADETH might need a bassist, so I contacted them via email and much later got a response, to my suprise. Before I knew it, I was on a conference call with Dave [Mustaine]. I sent in some video of me playing a couple MEGADETH songs and I got a call a couple of days later. Everything with ICED EARTH has been up in the air as far as touring, so I told [ICED EARTH mainman] Jon [Schaffer] about this when I got the first email back, and being my older bro, he told me to go for it. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play with ICED EARTH in the future because this will be a very lengthy tour, but we'll see what happens down the road. I am keeping in touch with Jon and maybe something in the future will happen.

"MEGADETH has always been one of my favorite bands and I have a lot of respect for Dave and what he's done for music. I feel honored to have been picked for this endeavor."

MEGADETH's lineup for the upcoming tour will be as follows:

Dave Mustaine – Guitar/Vocals
Glen Drover (EIDOLON, ex-KING DIAMOND) – Guitar
Nick Menza – Drums
James MacDonough (ex-ICED EARTH) - Bass

Right this is for english readers. i recently got kerrang magazine and they couldnt have made a much more mess off the megadeth review:

1: its not even the megadeth cover they have one the review its a mayhem one
2: they called the song blackmail the world
3: i think they called one die dead now, as well
4: apart from giving it 2k's it didnt even get the main review
5: they had this articile where it was the 50 heaviest albums EVER and get this a killswitch engage song got 9th place  and peace sells was somewhere near 18th!

Hell yeah man, NY on the 10th, HAVE TO SEE THAT!

ok an unrelated to Megadeth question, but related to shows and all... A friend and I want to go see CoB with Lamb of God and Fear Factory... but the venue only has like Floor Standing and Mezzanine Standing, and us both being rather small, have no chance of surviving a Lamb of God style mosh... so, would there be like the Wall of Death and all in the Mezz?

I've always despised Megadeth (look at my message history) but this ablum (as far as 30 second samples go) sounded kinda cool. I almost bought it. I'd rather have Aerosmiths self titled and Back in Black though. Perhaps I'll give Megadeth YET ANOTHER chance. Last one. This ablum better be good.

please, dont judge a band by the actions of the members. Just listen to the music, that is all that matters. Mustaine had every right to say what he did about Metallica if you have any knowledge of what they did to him you would understand.
